REQ: a program for verification
Time
"Eunice and her friends" might like to try the perl script torrenttool from Oskar Liljeblad's torrentutils package.
The link to Oskar's homepage isn't working at the moment, but Google has it cached.
I can provide the *.tar.gz file for anyone who can't find it on the 'net.

Or, for the "CLI challenged," TorrentSpy's SHA1 hash checking routine will run just fine under Wine.

BTW, TorrentSpy.exe (the program) isn't affiliated with www.torrentspy.com "The Largest BitTorrent Search Engine."

Info: Original Trilogy in HD screening this November!!

If a digital file is released into the public domain then it is likely to still be around after a long period of time and if a digital copy of a digital original will be the same as the day it was struck. This is the first time in history that such a thing is possible.
Yes, you can make a perfect copy. It is possible.
Too often, I'm afraid, the weakest link in a PIF chain assumes it will happen automagically and doesn't take any action to enforce it.
My oh my, I sure do hope Zion will provide file checksums for any X0 project release (as Doctor M has done) or at least post it to Usenet himself like he did his ROTS last summer. With that one I'm confident my copy is a clone of his original because of the CRC-32 hash checking built in to yEnc and RAR.
Nero's Verify function, used by some PIFers, isn't always so reliable. And I've got a real-life example to support that claim.

Regarding the thread topic, those who download November's broadcasts from the hdtv binary groups like bongloads will likely enjoy the benefits of yEnc & RAR hashes.
Now who's got a bongload of hash ?

Here is an updated version of Darth Solo's list.

The "Made in Japan" Sony AccuCores I'm currently using have media ID YUDEN000T02.
However if your AccuCore package says "Made in Taiwan," chances are they're not Taiyo Yuden,
but still 1st class if they're one of the SONY media IDs.

You should definitely check for updated firmware for your drive. Older firmwares simply don't know about the newer media IDs and default to slow speed with media they don't recognize.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
No, it's not dead.
Except for one eight-hour break, I've been seeding continuously since uploading it Tuesday.
I threw up 16GB in the first 48hrs over a T1 line. In super_seed mode, that should've been nearly four copies of each piece.
Two leechers finished and bailed, and still I was the only one seeding. Discouraged, I took a break.

Since the break, I'm behind a firewall seeding at ISDN speed. IMHO a firewall is the seeder's prerogative.
If leechers want it bad enough, they'll figure out how to configure their own firewalls to allow connections to their BT clients.
As I type this I'm connected to two clients.

It's not dead, and it's still listed on the demonoid web site.
Use the search string in my announcement above to find it.

You seed ESB first. It'll be a perfect opportunity for you to increase your share ratio up to 1. Give back at least as much as you've taken. Then I'll be happy to help you finish ANH.

@ChainsawAsh
What's your demonoid user name ? I'd like to check your ratio to help me better understand what you mean when you say "I'll seed em as long as I can" since that's such an open-ended statement.

A Question to the Older Members
Time
I never noticed them in theaters (although they might have been visible to a trained eye.)

Like CO, I never noticed them on video either (although they certainly are visible) until reading about them on the Internet.

I wonder if it's North America's NTSC setup (7.5 IRE black level) which makes them stick out like a sore thumb ?
Are they so obvious on Japanese video (0 IRE) or in PAL regions ?

Ah yes, the Flunk release:

I think maybe that digi-beta tape has been through the wringer. Or else his digi-beta player needed its head cleaned.

Might be useful for de-SE projects, but it's not my first choice for standalone viewing.

Help: looking for... The 1977 Bootleg

If Ingo Sucks wasn't so trigger-happy starting new threads, he might have tried using the search function first.
Yeah I know it ain't perfect, but in this case he'd have found a pre-existing thread with the exact same title as this one.
In it he'd have found a helpful link (from Moth3r of all people!) to another thread which contains the answer to his question.
That's no too hard, is it daveytod ?

But beware the answer isn't pinpointed in the first post of that thread. Be prepared to do some amount of reading.
If you want the whole story, read the whole thread. If you want the latest news, read backwards.

From adywan's .NFO file:

It is NOT just the workprint edited into the beginning but i have fully recreated the opening crawl to match the real one. I am really pleased with the results of this especially when the crawl finished and the camera pans down to the ships the starfield pans down and seemlessly merges into the telecine. I also recreated all of the end credits so this is the full film from start to finish.

From Zion's .NFO file:

I have generated new opening logos, crawl, and credits for this release.
Yes, I typed out the whole damn credits by hand. Don't ask.

Here's what I've been able to piece together. My sources include adywan's .NFOs, Zion's .NFO, "scene" release groups' .NFOs from VCDQuality website, and comments from VCDQuality forum.

adywan released three ROTS DVDs.
The first was mostly sourced from two "scene" releases by TUN & METEOR of (same?) Russian telecine, which had crawl & credits in Russian.
adywan recreated both crawl & credits in English. Not pictured above (I don't have it) but mentioned here because he would later use the same recreated credits in subsequent releases.

adywan's second was mostly sourced from an XviD released to the "scene" by aAF group. XviD lacked credits, so adywan added his own.
XviD audio was distorted with L/R channels reversed and video showed some color banding, which led some to theorize it was an analog capture (with levels set too high) from a digital projection source.

adywan's third is the NTSC screencap above (first two were PAL,) mostly from a DVD released by aAF (likely same source as their XviD.)
aAF's first DVD (they would later release another after adywan was done) was missing everything after Vader's NOooooooooooo! line.
adywan patched in the final scenes from the aAF XviD and his own recreated credits to complete it.

Zion's DVD was also mostly sourced from the aAF XviD. He generated new opening logo and crawl, as well as credits.

Both adywan's & Zion's feature motion menus, scene selection, and covers in a DVD-ROM directory.
Zion also included an Easter egg of the fan spoof trailer "A Lost Hope" which keeps getting more and more hilarious each time I watch it.

I'd guess your GTR version is from the aAF XviD. "KKi" also made a DVD (not listed on VCDQuality, but mentioned in their forum) presumably from the same XviD.
