I'm not sure if you are planning on revealing the 2nd Death Star during the ESB scenes, or keeping it within the ROTJ section. However, you could cut from the Millennium Falcon's departure from the Rebel fleet and wipe to Vader arriving at the 2nd Death Star, but possibly have Palpatine already there, waiting in the throne room for Vader to come report to him? I don't know, just throwing some ideas in there.

Remember, in this edit there is no "2nd Death Star" as the first was never destroyed. Any shots of the 2nd Death Star will either be replaced with shots of the first from ANH or the old death star will be rotoscoped into the scene in place of DS2. I think the scene with Palpatine and Vader will be my best bet, however, in bridging the gap between Empire and Jedi, but some dialogue will have to be removed/changed so that the whole construction aspect is gone.

so you are using "DS1" in RotJ - will you be using "DS2" in ANH, as if we will get to see the construction or something ?

maybe with a scene, where Tarkin or Jerjerod talks to Vader about soon to finish the "ultimate weapon" ?

a very cool project, too bad you had lost some of your work due a harddisk failure - always keep a backup somewhere ;-)

No, I will not be adding DS2 in ANH. I did think of doing this, but it would end up being more trouble than it's worth and I feel it works better if it is complete from the beginning to end.

Keep Luke on Dagobah. In ESB he goes from 100% not going to help them and obeying Yoda, to fully packed and leaving in the next scene anyway?!? How about he only leaves after Yoda dies or when Han is Frozen...

You could cut straight from "I love you... I know... wookie howl of anguish*" to Luke dropping the stones? He never goes to Bespin and goes off after Lando, Leia and Chewie's desperate persuit of Fett. That would explain why he turns up late to Jabba's palace.

Remember after Hoth, Luke and Han/Leia are essentially in two totally different films. There's no reason why they need to meet up again for 2 minutes before the end of ESB in your version?

That only leaves the Vader/father reveal right? Kenobi's chat about Anakin could maybe be re-edited to reveal that. Or another method could be redubbing Vader's lines from ESB over the final battle in ROTJ. When Luke is hiding in the throne room, just before losing his sh*t and attacking Vader. Swap the line from "...perhaps she will - Nooo!" to "...I am your father - Nooo!"

Then maybe Ben's "Why didn't you tell me?" chat could take place on Endor between the start of the Ewok celebration and him burning his father's body. The Dagobah footage can be converted quite closely to Endor. I know because I've tried it myself.

Really interesting ideas here. I will definitely be trying this, and if not, doing my best to alter it so I like the finished product. Definitely superb thoughts. =) Thanks a bunch.

Whew! Guess who hasn't updated since March! Sorry for that guys. I've been super busy lately but rest assured, this has been worked on whenever possible.

But anyway, I'm wondering what you guys think should be done with the Empire/Jedi transition. Right now I'm leaning toward opening ROTJ with Luke's return to Dagobah, but I'm still a little stuck with the ending of Empire. The problem is that (unlike Star Wars) it's not a matter of simply cutting out the end and splicing it to the beginning of the next, as you really need the line "I'll meet you at the rendezvous point on Tatooine" to properly lead into Jedi, but then with the music and general way the scene plays out, it's very clearly an ending and I can't really think of any shots or anything that will allow me to seamlessly ease that into Luke heading to Dagobah. Any ideas?

Team Negative1 - Return of the Jedi 1983 - 35mm Theatrical Version (unfinished project)
Time

While the aging me has grown to appreciate the superior storytelling and power that comes with Empire, Return of the Jedi was my favorite as a kid and will always probably hold the most nostalgia. My '95 VHS tapes are so worn, particularly Jedi. I cannot wait for this and will be so glad to finally see Yub Nub and Shaw's ghost and the pre-SE Jabba's Palace sequence in glorious HD with beautiful character-adding film grain and original colors. Team_Negative1, thank you does not seem to be enough for what you are doing for the community.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

http://imgur.com/AyuuK68

I was just looking at various pieces of concept art painted by the great Ralph McQuarrie at the time the original trilogy was being made and I came across this piece, which I'm guessing was painted around the time of Return of the Jedi. Nothing special at first glance but then I realized that this looks just like something in a photo from the set of Star Wars Episode VII, recently taken by the people at TMZ! Now this doesn't really say much about the plot of the film other than confirming they are on Tatooine (which everybody assumed anyways from the sand), but to me this is the greatest find becuase it means they are still going back to the originals, paying homage through unused concept art from the man who really created the entire look of the galaxy. Little stuff like this makes me look forward to the movie more and more.

Harmy's STAR WARS Respecialized Edition '97 - AVCHD and MKV Released
Time

This is fantastic. =) I'm a bit of a completist, so I've been looking for a 97 restoration that could match the quality of the blu ray release and Despecialized Edition 2.5 and after just getting very excited over team blu's 97 SE, I'm definitely leaning more toward this one, which isn't to say Team Blu's isn't also phenomenal achievement, just that this is a step up in terms of image quality. Thanks again Harmy for another fantastic release.

Had another thought. Do we see how Vader got from the DS to the Executor prior to Hoth? If not could you use the SE "Prepare my Stardestroyer for my arrival" line. Either by using the same footage (Not ideal as it's obviously Bespin) or using some other footage of Vader (He's got no mouth so it could be dubbed over anything). Probably a sweeping side shot of Vader barking orders at Jerjerrod would work best.

That's a fantastic idea. Will definitely work that into it. I could probably dub over the "That's it. The rebels are there." scene since I won't be using it otherwise.

Hola.

-I am planning on further color correction.

-Hard cut is temporary. Wipe and audio transition to be added.

-I actually did try to put the threepio line about the clothes at the beginning but it leads into the convo between threepio and han that i don't want to keep and no matter how I went about it I just wasn't satisfied.

-Still not sure what I'll do with that scene. I'll keep you posted with further details.

Info Wanted: What are the best 1997 Special Edition preservations?
Time

Ok, so a couple of things here:

1. I’ve been interested in getting preservations of the 97 special editions of the OT. I was wondering what you all consider to be the best of the bunch.

2. Also, I’ve been looking around for any preservations I can find, but am having a hard time. I’m sure there’s probably something on Myspleen, but I haven’t been able to log on for some time and I have no idea why. It just won’t log me in for some reason (hence why I haven’t checked there). It’s been pretty frustrating, so I’m asking here if anyone would be willing to send me another invite. It would be enormously helpful and I’d really appreciate it. 😃

Hey all. Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been working on this have no fear. Should be a lot more updates soon. I'm more or less done with the SW-Empire transition. Just tweaking little things now. Should have it up on vimeo in not too long.

Semi-Off Topic: I've been having trouble logging into myspleen. Been trying for a few days now and it hasn't been working. I'm at the point where I'm going to ask if anyone can/will send me another invite? Please and thank you. I'd really appreciate it, especially since it's where I was planning on uploading this edit when it's all done.

I'm playing with the idea that Luke actually means to meet up with the others, but "crash lands" on Dagobah by mistake. There he meets a funny looking creature named Yoda (He knows his name. In this edit he isn't looking for Yoda, he just wants to get his ship out of the swamp). It's then revealed that Luke didn't end up there by accident, that the spirit of Ben actually guided him there. The reveal isn't that the creature is Yoda, it's that Yoda is a Jedi Master. After "I'm not afraid." "You will be." It fades to black. Ominous music with a voiceover of Ben saying "You will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me."
