So to throw another idea into the ring ...

some time ago I asked if anybody has read "the Star Wars" comic - seems there is a bit of the prophecy in this concept-based book - since the main source was at one point the "journal of the Whills", before it became the family saga of the Skywalkers.

anyway, in mentioned comic/backstory, "The Skywalker" is refered something like the "Dune messiah" - so we could tie up another thought some had here, to not name Anakin, and leaving his full name for the OT ...

bridging this to an idea how to name characters, because I find the name "Anakin" somewhat strange, in contrast to "(Ben) Obi-Wan Kenobi" - it would be better if Jedi had similar name-combinations or "titles" (not unlike the Sith, if one keeps "Darth" as this)

maybe "Anakin" could turn into "Ana-Kin" or "Ani-Kin" (other combinations like "Ana-Kheen"?)

I bought "The Star Wars" at the EMP museum a little while back and I don't see anything useful in it to add history to the Jedi nor the Sith. The story is all over the place and you constantly meet new characters throughout the story. The only thing new that I learned was that the Jedi are called the "Jedi Bendu" I can look for more stuff but really I don't see anything that useful or inspirational

Well that's because it's not supposed to add to the world that exists.  Like it doesn't take place in the existing star wars universe.  It is actually a direct adaptation of an earlier draft of the original Star Wars script.  It's not really supposed to teach you more about the Jedi or the Sith, it's just like an alternate story showing like "yeah this is what Star Wars could have been."

The flaws in the story are probably what spurred the rewrites ultimately bringing us to the story we all know and love today.

Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)

What I'm noticing is that, while you seem to be getting a dramatic increase in detail, what your'e getting as part of that package deal is an equally dramatic increase in artifacts and noise (at least on SW.  those two from Empire and Jedi look fine).  Is there a way to soften out that noise without also losing the detail and ending up exactly where we started?

The official "Who is going to Star Wars Celebration, Anaheim California, April 2015?" thread

Oh its actually splendid!  It's a free fireworks show I can see from my house whenever I like :)  The sound isn't too bad as I'm just a couple miles out (about a 4 or 5 minute drive), so if I have my tv on you can barely hear it.  You get fairly used to it.

I'm not sure what house you're talking about so I would assume it's gone.  I know disney had to undergo hell when they wanted to build California Adventure because they had to convince a whole community, many of whom had been living there for years and years toward the back end of the old parking lot to sell their properties in order to make the room that disney would need to build the park.

My computer is being really funky right now and not wanting to read my external hard drive properly, thus the deleted scene files I have cannot be accessed.  =.= fucking technology man.  Can anybody else get an example to DrDre for me?  If not I'll get something to you when I get this harddrive thing sorted out.  Or possibly just rip the scenes from my dvds again.

What if, in ANH.... Through seamless branching, you get a choice? You either get the Jabba scene OR you get the Greedo scene. The Jabba scene actually works for the most part if you don't include the Greedo scene.

Only works if you change Jabba's subtitles so that he doesn't reference "frying poor greedo".

To put my two cents in about the whole "explaining the prophecy" debacle, the simple addition of this, taken from the second draft of Star Wars (Adventures of the Starkiller), would have been exposition enough as to what this "prophecy" actually states:

"...and in the time of greatest despair there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as: THE SON OF THE SUNS."

-Journal of the Whills

Edit it slightly to tone down the Jesus imagery and include something about bringing balance to the force:

"In the time of greatest despair there shall come a chosen one who shall vanquish evil from the shadows and bring about a balance to the Force, and he shall be known as: The Son of the Suns."

-Journal of the Whills

I think this fits the needs of a proper explanation of the vague prophecy, adding some purpose to its presence in the films.  The "Journal of the Whills" could be shown to be a kind of Jedi bible.

I am so happy we have geniuses like you giving us such in depth, amazing insight into your amazing projects.  Everybody take note of this guy and start beefing up your descriptions.

I have a feeling Frink will be along shortly on this one.  I can feel it in the force.

Star Wars prequels as a time travel story?
Time

I see it more like the planet of the apes movies.  Essentially what ends up happening when they travel back in time changes the future into a peaceful one, and (at least personally) I don't think it took significance away from the events of the previous films, even though it basically undid everything that happened in the first two films.

I understand the beef with X-Men as it was basically just ret-conning the previous canon because people didn't like them and to make way for the future stories they wanted to tell, but I don't see this as being that way.  It would be the ending of the story of Luke's journey and more the idea that the events of the OT were essential to getting Luke to the point where he could do this and helped prepare him for the trials he would face in the PT era.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I actually would have to say that you are being too harsh on the guy.  He's done what he's in the past which I have shared in the annoyance of, but regardless of that, he was asking a perfectly legitimate question and is probably just new to this whole community and still getting the grip of how things work.  Give him a chance to redeem himself and don't bully him for some (albeit some big) mistakes.

However, to the individual in question, if you keep up the shenanigans, it is likely to get you banned from the forum.  I'm not a moderator, but I've seen it happen.

But again, perfectly legitimate question.  I'd wait for the definitive answer from Harmy, but I believe he will do a 3.0 at some point.

If I'm perfectly honest, I would also love to have a version of despecialized with the '81 crawl.  Sometimes it's just nice having that episode number if you're having a marathon with either the official versions of the prequels or fan edits.  In fact, if someone's working on a blu ray with menus and whatnot, having an option to play either the '77 theatrical version or the '81 re-release version would be pretty darn cool.  Like if anybody has seen the Harry Potter ultimate edition blu rays, for the first two movies you click play movie and then two options pop up "play theatrical" or "play extended edition".  Could be a cool feature for ANH.

While I'm fairly sure the answer is a resounding "Hell no", I'm curious as to where you stand on someone like Harmy possibly using some of the clips you've put up on the forum in a future version of despecialized or some other fan project.  I'm pretty sure you would not be ok with that given where you stand on the nature of this project but I'm still curious.

What if Lucasfilm "stole" a preservation?

Yeah, if you're insinuating that you could do a significantly better job given just adding the negatives to your list of resources then that just makes me wonder what you possibly think you could get out of it!  I look at what you've done and seriously feel its the best it could possibly be.  I mean what else could there be to pull out of it?

Star Wars prequels as a time travel story?
Time

Well what if this idea started out in ROTJ where we find a different ending where the rebels fail and are wiped out by the empire.  The film would then end with Luke (by way of instruction of the spirits of Obi-Wan and Yoda) managing to use the force to go back in time to stop the empire's formation.  It could work as kind of a"X-Men Days of Future Past" kind of story.  We follow him tagging along the journey of Anakin and Obi-Wan (possibly going by an alias if it would be preferred to keep Anakin and Obi-Wan unaware of who he is).  By the end we would find Anakin in a situation akin to the end of ROTJ where the Palpatine has revealed himself and is about to kill Luke.  Anakin ultimately kills Palpatine, thus not turning to the dark side and preventing the empire's formation.  Luke ends up in a peaceful future where the Jedi knights are still protector's of the Republic, Leia is a diplomat, Han is a well respected general, and he himself is undergoing proper Jedi training.  Ben and his father are both still alive and good friends.  The future is left open to other stories and everything that has come before ends happy.

What if Lucasfilm "stole" a preservation?
Time

I wasn't sure where to post this question but I figured this was as good a place as any.

What if Lucasfilm "stole" a preservation/restoration?  Like let's assume they decide to release the OOT on blu ray, but rather than restore the films themselves, they released one of the fan restorations like Harmy's or Team-1's or Team Blu's claiming it as their own restoration?  Would they be permitted from a legal standpoint to do this given it is their film?  Or, even though it was a non-profit effort, would they still have to credit the people who worked on the project?  And if they didn't, would said fans who worked on it have any case if they wanted to sue?
