I mean, it would pretty much have to be a fan film, but yeah of course it could be done.

I doubt he’d change his plans too drastically if at all. I don’t think he was planning to remove leia being Luke’s sister which would be the only real contradicting change he could make.
Been a while without an update. Sorry guys. I actually just updated to Adobe cc so I’m actually starting the color correction all over again with the new software (I wasn’t that far along anyways and wasn’t entirely happy with what I had so no biggie) but thankfully all the work I’ve done on the discs themselves in Encore can just be transfered over as is since it’s still on Cs6.
Once I get past ANH, ESB and ROTJ will be much quicker and easier since I’ll already basically have a template and there aren’t really any color issues I have with those so it’ll pretty much be drag and drop.
More updates to come soon. Thank you all for your patience and help 😃 I’m really happy with the direction this project is going.
I’ve tried using those sticker labels but my only issue is that they’re SO DAMN HARD to get lined up properly when printing. I’ve wasted so many of them before finally getting one to look right.
But since I’m not ready to shell out the cash for a printer with direct to disc printing yet, I’ll be sticking to them lol.
Another thing you can do (I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen it done) is print the disc labels on the full sheet sticker labels and then just cut it to the right shape.
I’ve never personally had a problem with the sticker labels messing with the playback and ruining the player like some people claim they do, but maybe I’m just lucky.
I don’t think he’s ever said he hates ESB and ROTJ, just that he doesn’t think they’re as good as SW. I mean in one of his behind the scenes type videos you can see he has an empire poster in his house. Or maybe I’m remembering wrong?
So, Frink, you taking ideas for “The Ridiculousness Awakens” yet? 😉
My main hope for ROTJ:R is to please not include any significant cuts. ROTJ is the weakest of the OT, yes. However, it still holds a place in many of our hearts. I want ROTJ:R to continue to be “What the special editions should have been”.
I hope so too with the exception of parts of the ewok battle. I think a few of the more cringeworthy shots in that sequence replaced with shots of rebel troopers fighting off the stormtroopers with blasters would do a lot to make the latter half of this movie more enjoyable.
Definitely go with despecialized. To figure out how to get it, check out the first post of the despecialized edition thread on this forum and if you have further questions, feel free to ask.
Somewhat
Overall I liked the film a lot and it was the first film in a long time I actually got emotionally invested in (cried a few times. Only slightly ashamed). There were a few things I didn’t like but overall I thought it was a damn good reintroduce to the Galaxy. I won’t rehash a lot of the things that have already been said about it though.
Two points: to those complaining about Hans death not being fitting or heroic enough, I disagree completely. The way he died was a fitting end to his character arc. When we meet Han he is selfish “better her than me”. He cares about himself and nobody else save chewie. In this film he dies directly as a result of him caring for his son. He does because of his compassion. He doesn’t need to go down in a blaze of heroic glory, that isn’t what his character is about. He goes down because he’s trying to save his son on the inside. He dies because of his love and because he cares about others. I don’t see how you could say that isn’t a fitting end for his character. Tragic as all hell, but fitting.
Apart from star killer base, the only major complaint I have is that we didn’t see any interaction between Poe and Rey. I know the story they set up made that impossible but if these are our new “big three” (Fin, Rey, and Poe), than you should show us the dynamics of all of them together. We got a good amount of Poe and Fin together, a lot of Fin and Rey, but no Rey and Poe. I just think it was a slight missed opportunity to allow us to get invested in them as a group, not just as individuals, and I think the personalities of those two would have played off in a very entertaining way together.
This idea involves there being a bad guy called “Darth Vader” already in place as a separate entity from anakin.
Three way volcano/mustafar duel between Obi-Wan, dark/turned anakin, and Vader. There is a situation like in ROTS where they are fueling on a platform that is falling/sinking into the lava. Obi wan gets tossed aside. And watches as anakin and Vader fall seemingly to their deaths. It would appear almost as though anakin sacrificed himself for Obi wan.
Later in the film, we see a charred hand pulling themselves out of the lava. The body is unrecognizeable.
We can then get the “birth of Vader” scene minus all the talk of padme.
The audience would assume the figure to be Vader when in reality it was anakin. He ceased to be anakin skywalker and “became” Darth Vader. In this incarnation “became” means he took up the mantle. Kind of like the dread pirate Roberts in the princess bride.
It’s a cheap plot device to give us a reason to care about anakin because of what he represents, rather than by who he is. Who he is and how he acts should be what our focus is on, not on a special kind of of bacteria that he has a lot of that means he’s the figure of some prophecy or whatever. Basically what midichlorians do is TELL us we should care about anakin, rather than SHOWING us we should.
It’s cheap, like jump scares and fart jokes.
I would also like to add that I think some of the individual moments in ROTJ are better than those in SW or ESB (particularly between emperor/vader/Luke), but that the overall film was not better. I’m kind of expecting this from TFA as well. I’m almost sure there will be some phenomenal moments within the film that rival those in the OT, but the film overall I think won’t quite be up to that caliber. Once again, that doesn’t mean I think it’ll suck, far from it. It would be a challenge for almost any movie to compete with Empire. Saying “not quite as good as empire” is basically saying “it was a damn good flick.”
Darth Lucas said:
Honestly I’m not expecting it to be the best thing ever, and I’m not expecting it to suck. I’m expecting something on par with ROTJ without the ewoks. If you are expecting that, you expecting a great film.
Well I consider ROTJ (even minus the ewoks) to be a good film, not a great film. I have gripes that a lot of plot points are rehashed from ANH (which from what I’ve seen seems to be the case also with TFA) and that some things were a bit too silly in serious moments. To me it’s still the weakest of the three even without the ewoks, which is not to say it’s a bad film, just not quite on par with SW and ESB. But I still love ROTJ and think it’s a fun film with the right amount of emotion. So I’m saying that I think TFA will be about that quality, with the issues. Good story, well done characters, emotional moments, occasional silliness in inappropriate moments, rehashed story points from ANH, some things that I have gripes with, but overall a good, fun movie that I can watch, have a good time with, and be moved by.
My thoughts are it is ether going to be awesome or The worst star wars YET, But the many directing it wrote the T.V show Lost ( THE BEST TV SHOW EVER ) So the move will be in good hands Hopes up. IF IT IS STILL GOD AWFUL. Than we cures Disney out and blame them for its shit
Well actually JJ Abrams had very little to do with Lost beyond the Pilot episode.
Honestly I’m not expecting it to be the best thing ever, and I’m not expecting it to suck. I’m expecting something on par with ROTJ without the ewoks.
Yeah, I’ve been getting kind of annoyed seeing these guys rant about these edits which, while good, do pretty standard stuff in the world of fanediting the prequels. Can’t imagine Kristian’s reaction to actually seeing one of the better quality fanedits.
Man, I love seeing all these covers that have been created – really fantastic work all around!
Does anyone happen to have a link to this set of covers made by Video Collector that they’d be willing to send me?
I tried PM’ing him a while ago, so far no dice.
Oh, and if you happen to have the Despecialized variants he made for the OT, that’d be a bonus!
Same for me please!
Thanks!
Video Collector has made it pretty clear he doesn’t want people distributing them on their own. I know it can be annoying having to wait, but be patient, sometimes people take a couple days to reply on here, but Video Collector has been pretty good about replying in my experience.
It’s one thing if you end up disappointed by the story, but some of the complaining and nitpicking about little, insignificant details in a movie you HAVENT SEEN YET is ridiculous. The kind of people who make up their mind about something before they give it a chance are ridiculous. We know the prequels suck because most of us went in with open minds hoping and wanting them to be good. But if you go into a movie wanting it to suck, you’re just going to convince yourself it sucks because you’ve already made up your mind.
Is there any ETA on the bluray iso? Love the work you’ve done.
I’m for Hiddleston. He’s got the look, the voice, and a wide enough body of work to probably pull stuff from.
Jeez, didn’t know the names were gonna be the thing about this project to cause so much backlash haha
For 04 I’m gonna change it to “Special Edition Re-release (2004)”
A little less corny and fan-ish, which seems to be the main complaint, and creates a nice symmetry with Disc One where we have “Theatrical Edition (1977)” and then “Theatrical Re-release (1981)”
Still having a little debate in my head about 2011.
(Just to clear things up, I am labelling them with years, all I meant was that I wanted something creative in addition to the years to differentiate each version.)
Gotta get away from the names for a while haha, time to get back to the discs. I’ve re-started the CC of SW-1977 now that I’m settled into my new computer system and have begun piecing together the bonus features for Disc Four. I was hoping to have at least some version of ANH out before TFA, but now seeing that’s probably not going to happen. Sorry guys, but I’m sure the end product will be worth the wait. I’ve got an empty spot on my movie shelf that’s begging me to finish, but I just want to take my time and get all the details right.
If you insist TFA will be awful and you’ll hate it no matter what, well then you’re really no better than the fanboys who insist the prequels are good when they know damn well they aren’t; just blinded by your preconceived notions. Some people just want to hate anything that isn’t an OT re-release. I’m going into TFA with the mind of a child, and hopefully it can recapture some of the magic that the OT captured when I actually was a child. I don’t need it to be a masterpiece, I just want a fun adventure in the same universe with characters that feel real and not cardboard cut outs crapped on by Jar Jar Binks. I may love it, I may hate it, I may just like it, but I’m going to save judgement for when I see it.
What if it sucks? Well from what we’ve seen there is at least going to be decent material for fanedits.
I’ll be seeing it at 7:20pm on the 17th at Century Stadium 25 in Orange, CA. Closest theater to me and also a pretty big, nice theater. I’ve seen just about every movie there since I moved to Orange County a few years ago.
It would be cool if the Naboo pilots held out for a long time slowly being worn down by the sheer number of the droids and then just as it looks like they are all going to die, the Jedi turn up in fighters and the droid control ship is destroyed by Obi-Wan from inside after killing Maul on the ship instead of on the planet.
The Jedi come across as heroes for once at least.
It would explain why the whole council are on the planet at the end of the movie. This is do-able, but only if one manages to pull off the jedis on the control ship and the rest on the planet. I’ve personally played around with this and found it extremely difficult if not impossible to pull off, but I’m still trying things. What makes it so difficult is that, while you could cut the jedi out of certain shots and replace the background, it’s a much harder thing to remove them from the many many shots where they appear alongside the naboo-ians as they storm Theed palace. The most challenging shots being where darth maul is revealed: it involves removing the jedi and changing the background to resemble the ship, removing maul and changing the background, and possibly also trying to fill in the empty space left from where the jedi were if you want to salvage that shot for use with Amidala and the naboo-ians.
(p.s. What the hell are we supposed to call people from Naboo? Qui-Gon refers to them as ‘The Naboo’ but idfk if that’s accurate or not)
