The Force Awakens : Fan Edit Ideas
Time

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset by it, I’m just saying I’ve heard a lot of people that are.

And I’m certainly not saying it was a bad ending, I just personally would have ended it as she flew away because even though it was a pretty good ending with great music, it felt kind of tacked on to me rather than a natural ending point. In the theater I actually thought they would end it there, but then the movie kept going and I got confused for a second. It felt like such a natural ending point to end it as she flew off. That way they could set the sequel a few years after and it wouldn’t feel weird. They kind of put themselves into a creative corner where now the next movie pretty much HAS to take place almost immediately after this one.

They could have just been honest and said from the beginning “Luke skywalker isn’t in this movie, but he will be in episode 8”

I found more people pissed that they said he’d be in the movie and was basically a glorified cameo. I just personally think it would’ve worked better if his reveal had been saved for 8 instead of just tacked on to the end of 7 as a cheap cliffhanger.

The diagonal split definitely helps, but you still can’t see the whole thing on both sides, so I think that either doing it with one on top one on bottom, or posting some screenshot comparisons would be cool.

If you have any specific shots you’d like to see compared I can post some screenshot comparisons. I’m just doing the split screen so you all can see roughly the improvement in motion. 😃

Looks like it is in good shape! If you’re using premiere, I’ve got some settings to for the Mos Eisley sequence if you’d like to swap notes.

I’m using After Effects for the color correction using mainly curves adjustments. But feel free to share! I’ve been kind of putting off mos eisley because I’m concerned as to whether or not I’ll be able to get it looking good haha.

Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception (Released)
Time

Maybe people only live for like a year in the star wars universe. So like 1 year=1 generation. But then that makes the whole saga take place over like maybe a year and a half? For that matter, how do you even measure a year in the Star Wars universe? Is it relative to one planet’s orbit? Which planet? Coruscant? Does the galaxy orbit around another galaxy or something? Is that the galaxy we saw in the distance at the end of Empire? I’m so confused.

If it is between Death Star and Coruscant, I say Coruscant. The Death Star makes for a cool scene to set up A New Hope and it looks really cool, sure, but it just raises far too many questions. Why did it take almost 20 years to build the first one when they already had the plans but they were able to completely redesign, improve, and build a new one in only like 4-5 years?

Coruscant isn’t as cool of a visual, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense.

That’s what I was saying about needing to correct some of the black levels.

I’m not so much going for a specific look so much as just correcting the over yellow of DE and just getting it to a point where it looks most natural to me. I’ve been to this exact canyon in Death Valley, and those rocks and dirt aren’t deep yellow no matter what filters they may have thrown on the camera. Getting it to look natural has been very difficult in a few shots and the more I look back on it, the more work I think still needs to be done to get it right.

Once Harmy has finished the final 3.0 1080p versions he said he plans on Facebook, we’ll have the definitive versions of these movies. I doubt even an official release could top it.

Unless Lucasfilm is awesome and releases Mike Verta’s restoration.

That still only solves 1/3 of the problem.

Unless Lucasfilm is awesome and hires him to restore the other two.

I would have the movie end with Rey flying away to find Luke and the shot of Leia, Threepio, Poe, the resistance are standing there watching her fly off. It provides a nice set up for the next movie without being too much of an over the top TV series-style cliffhanger. Episode 8 could begin with her finding Luke. This way it ends with a group shot of hero’s standing together just like well… every other Star Wars movie.

I liked the ending as was when I first saw it and the music was great, but by the second time I watched it, it seriously felt like I was watching an episode of a corny TV series where they feel the need to tag an over the top cliffhanger onto the end after the story is basically done just to get people to watch next week. It was exciting to see Luke, but I would have preferred him to remain an enigma until we finally see him in Episode 8, rather than just tagging him on at the end just to say he’s in the movie.

has anyone heard anything new about the rumor that disney was selling the rights to criterion for a bluray release of this movie?

I haven’t heard anything of the sort but that sounds unlike something Disney would ever do. They don’t want the movie out there because they feel it will hurt their image (I know, it’s dumb, but that’s how they think). They have a beautiful scan of the film digitally archived and could do a quick restoration and limited release if they wanted to, but the fact is they don’t want it out there in any capacity. They wouldn’t sell it to another company to put it out. If they were ok with it being available to people, they would release it themselves.

sorry to repeat myself, but can someone give me the one liner about the difference between this planned release and the already released grindhouse version, from the same team?

much appreciated!

I haven’t been following this as closely as their Star Wars thread, but I believe the difference is it will be cleaner and better colors.

In a way, yes haha. But at this point it’s just a placeholder until Harmy finishes his v3.

Here’s a question that hasn’t been adressed: being a native english speaker with no problem hearing, I haven’t given really much of any thought to subtitles, but having recently spent the day with a ladyfriend of mine who has a hearing deficiency and watches all movies with subtitles, it got me thinking about it. I’m not exactly sure how to work with something like project threepio within Adobe Encore, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out. That being said, what if any subtitle tracks should be included in this blu ray? I’m not sure if there’s a limit to the number of tracks I can include, but I’d like to keep it to a relative minimum.
