Get ready for "Star Wars - Shroud of the Sith", a radical fan edit of "The Phantom Menace"
Time

I think it could work really phenomenally if you can get it to play out the right way. It’s a tricky thing but I hope you can knock it out of the park. It would provide some really nice characterization to jar jar having him unable to speak. It would almost make him endearing. Kind of like groot in gotg.

…I’m certain there are lots of people who don’t like black bars on top and bottom.

Yeah and they’re all in their 70s…

Seriously, the only people I ever see complain about the black bars are people who don’t understand the idea of aspect ratios and think the bars are cutting off the image.

What’s baffling to me is that you seem to fully understand aspect ratios, yet actually want to cut off part of the image.

If that’s your preference, fine, but don’t come here acting all arrogant insulting the very people involved in spending countless hours making this damn thing for anyone to enjoy, and act like we’re all wasting your time by giving you legitimate answers just because they aren’t quick and easy and what you want to hear.

The fact is that your preference is a very unpopular preference, and because of that, there isnt any need to sacrifice bluray compatibility just so that people watching on a HD have the option of cropping the image.

You are literally the first person on this forum asking for something like this. We’re trying to help as much as possible, but then you start giving really rude responses and it makes it a lot harder to take you seriously.

Yeah, we think you have a really backwards, weird, oddball preference, but if you had been kind and respectful and not act all impatient and rude at us trying to help you as best we can, things probably would’ve gone smoother.

You don’t make an account and then immediately start bitching about things. It’s the equivalent of starting your first day at a new job and then complaining that the boss doesn’t run things correctly. Yeah making suggestions and putting in your opinion is fine, but people aren’t going to take you seriously if you’re an ass about it.

Your comments to towne32 are particularly disturbing to me, considering he’s put more time and energy into this damn project than you can probably guess, and you feel like it’s ok to come on, derail his thread, act like an arrogant troll, and then insult him for the way he tried to answer your question.

No the point is that you’re referring to the colors of a release that is not the one being discussed on this thread, and this project is actually entirely about changing those colors.

I don’t see why zooming in on your tv is such a bad option for you. Incredibly easy, quick, and accomplishes the exact same thing that cropping in some other program would.

Given that widescreen is standard on all commercial DVDs and blurays these days, I don’t see why Harmy or anyone else should go to extreme lengths to satisfy the >1% of people who want “full screen” capabilities for whatever freaking reason. You wanna talk about the “casual viewer” and the “majority of people”, well the casual majority doesn’t care about a couple black bars allowing you to see the whole freakin unobstructed image.

But I’m sorry your fruitless attempts to adhere something to your weird ass preferences ruined the experience for you.

Hi,

I torrented the 18 GB Despecialized v 2,5 and watching it currently - great work!!!

However I have couple questions… why is it letterboxed??? There are black borders up and down the screen which I simply can not get rid of using VLC media player… I would like to crop it to fill the entire display area but this can not be done since it’s letterboxed. Why on earth would one letterbox any video…

Also, I notice that the film has LOTS of different audio tracks, while some commentary tracks will probably be interesting… I don’t think it’s wise to include for example Polish audio (that’s what subtitles are for)… it just bloats the size and makes people less interested in downloading and sharing it. A preservation effort which nobody/few watches hasn’t achieved its goal.

But yeah, what’s up with the letterbox thing?

Ummm… Where do I start with this.

Help Wanted: for the title crawl for my TFA Edit

^ Nice snark. 6/10.

I am curious though, given how many projects here have custom crawls. I’ve seen some that are virtually indistinguishable from official ones, and some that have problems with spacing, aliasing, etc. Is there a preferred method among editors here?

In the past when I’ve done it I type it up in Photoshop to get the spacing and everything how I want it. Then I bring it into after effects, put it against a starfield from whatever movie I’m working from, then tilt the layer and key frame the motion to recede at the proper rate. Then fade the layer at the end before the pan down.

Star Wars Custom Blu Ray Saga Set (a WIP)
Time

So I’ve been thinking it may be nice to add a feature to the bonus disc of either a video or slideshow comparing all of the changes to the film over the years, since this blu ray set focuses on included all the major versions of the film. Would that be something of interest? Or do you all think it would be wasted space on the disc?

And if I include something like that, does anyone know of a good video comparing the differences? I know doubleofive did a gallery of changes which is really good, but the text explaining the changes is not part of the image, and I’d rather not have to go through and type out each one onto the images if I can avoid it.

Now that Team Negative One is no more, I think we should, at least, consider the possibility of using a scan of this film’s 35mm print to the project.

I’m confused as to why the status of team negative 1’s existence has any bearing on this project. There are no existing TPM 35mm scans that anyone has done that I’m aware of. Are you suggesting those involved in the project obtain a print and make a scan? And if so, why does it matter if team negative 1 is around or not to do that?

Well I mean it is flash. But flash isn’t bad so long as it’s not distracting from the main focus and emotion of the scene. The problem with the battle in ROTS (which I will admit is the ONLY prequel duel with even a hint of emotion behind it) is that there’s too much distracting flash and not enough emotional substance. What it needed was less lava explosion and parkour and more talking between Darth and obi wan. It also didn’t need to be nearly as long as it was.
