My lord some people are dim.
My lord some people are dim.
The 1977 bootleg features the mono soundtrack as Beru’s dialogue is different for the Lars dinner scene:

I wonder why they dubbed her voice…I find no reason for it, but evidently George did.
The on set dialogue recording was probably not good. Happens even in films today, though it tends to be a little more seamless now.

Maybe an odd question but I got curious and want to know if this would work. Would one be able to write a bluray ISO file to a USB flashdrive? And if so, if you then plugged that drive into your bluray player, would it just play like a bluray? or would the player likely just not recognize the file? The thought occurred to me that this might be a cool way to store movies, but thought I’d ask more technically knowledgeable people before giving it a go myself.
I love how this set inadvertently kind of matches the Rogue One bluray with the front cover kind of spilling over into the spine that has the movie logo centered on it.
After reading that original article on the machete order, I gave it a go, and I will say it was a pretty interesting way to watch them. If you’re looking to rewatch the movies and want a new-ish experience I say give it a go, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a first time viewing.
once the dark side is taken care of, all that remains is the light
Regardless of how correct they are, I really dig those colors Swazzy, with the exception of the really vibrant blue of the walls in a couple shots.
How is it possible to have a technicolor print if the film was not shot on 3 strip technicolor…??
It can still be printed on 3 strip technicolor even if it wasn’t shot that way. Same as how you can have a 35mm film printed onto 70mm stock.
JEDIT: Or at least it could if Technicolor was still doing these kinds of prints, but Star Wars was actually the last movie they used this process for before shutting down their labs.
So this is the only trailer we are getting?
The synthesis of a trailer and level of secrecy required to preserve the effect of a movie is inversely proportional to the quality of the film.
It truly makes me worry.
Back in the eighties it was “introducing Lando Calrissian” and no fucks given.
It’s a teaser. If it’s like TFA then there will likely be another teaser and then a full trailer coming. Not to mention all the tv spots and international trailers.
There is one thing you could do, though you seem to be incapable of it.
Bringing up people’s boners tends to overwhelm whatever the post was actually about.
There have been a lot of ups and downs in this thread.
It’s getting hard to follow along.
They had already scanned and cleaned that shot for Empire of Dreams.
Isn’t there some debate as to whether or not the GOUT crawl was a recreation?
Here’s an update of the regrade, that better reflects what’s actually seen on the frame (green walls, blue lights), although the bluray gradient issues still make it look choppy for lack of a better word:
For whatever reason this feels better on balance than the last one. Not sure why since it seems to be just as green, but doesnt read as such at a glance.
Was just poking fun, Frink. You know I’ve got no problems with you :p
That’s… umm… that’s very green. Not saying it’s not correct, just wow, didn’t think it’d be so green.
Ah, thank you Frink.
Well if nothing else you may have been the first member ever to post that.
And, you know, if anyone wanted to keep it in Episode II, a possibility:

I dislike the unnecessary inclusion of the Death Star as part of a very abrupt slideshow of placing everything neatly how it is as ANH begins.
Unfortunately, I think the scene feels ‘edited’ when we have Tarkin joining Palpatine to gaze out the window and miming “I’ll leave you two to it” without the Death Star.I believe this may have been mentioned before and although this may not be necessary for Hal’s edit, I think a good solution would be to use some photoshop wizardry to put the laser dish on the station’s equator. It would suggest that this is not the same Death Star we see in the OT, but possibly a smaller prototype. This would also connect with the schematics in the Death Star plans the Rebels steal, since that also features a version where the dish is on the equator.
Couldn’t resist mocking that up.

Maybe Luke’s ROTJ sabre has a green blade because he salvaged a crystal from Yavin space… just suggestin’
Maybe the Empire had processed these crystals to make the Death Star Weapon work so reducing the need for green blades in the prequels
What if the Kyber used by Luke for his ROTJ saber was actually a shard of the big one used to power the Death Star. That’d be an interesting idea to play with I think.
I mean, well beyond the scope of any fanedit, but still interesting to think about.
I’ve always had a problem with the “over-yellow” tatooine corrections that have been done previously. It just always looked so unnatural that I couldn’t fathom it was intentionally on the original film; yet it looks completely natural on the print photos and the mverta screening pics. I think because, in trying to replicate the look, an unintentional side effect is that skintones become jaundice-y, the whites of artoo turn into a milky yellow, and the silver turns green. However, on the photos of the print and the Mverta screening photos, it takes on this yellow look without the unsightly side effects. Skies still look blue, whites are still white, and skintones are still skintones. It’s gorgeous, really. I wonder why it’s so hard to replicate without the unsightly side effects.
How anyone could cut up a beautiful tech print like that is beyond me, but I can’t wait to see what the scans look like.
I was hoping to automate some of the process, but that didn’t work as I’d hoped. Other than that things are going well, just slowly.
Certainly let us know if you find an easy way to separate the elements. My own work recreating this was very exhausting and slow for simply the matter of rotoscoping all the elements.
Where would this set be downloaded?
Nowhere since it isn’t finished. When it is, likely myspleen.
I think it would be an enormous mistake having the 40th anniversary tribute as the opening panel to celebration without some sort of big surprise or announcement at the end. 2015 they ended it with a TFA trailer. 2016 they made an effort to end with a bang with that bts reel for R1 (though that was kind of lame). They love kicking off celebration with a bang. Since they moved the Episode 8 panel in favor of starting with the 40th anniversary tribute, I’d be shocked if they didn’t have SOMETHING big planned, even if it’s not what we’re all hoping.
