I've literally been watching Star Wars for as long as I can remember (I was born in '77), and having grown up watching ANH on home video, that's the opening crawl I (and presumably many other people) have grown up with and love.

My feelings exactly - but if they do choose to remove it, wouldn't the best thing be to just paint it out of the LD capture?

DE, I have a few suggestions for Jedi (a bit early I know, but one can always hope that telling in advance will let people know that it's important.

1. Fix lightsaber inconsistency by adding a more visible core.

Definitely under consideration

2. Old sarlaac pit, perhaps?
3. Lapti Nek re-insertion. May seem like an ADM rip-off decision, but it would definitely be worth it. And keep the extra Ula scene from the SE of her in the Rancor den if possible.

That means taking footage from a lower quality source - something I really don't want to do, and if I do, I'd like to use X0 as the source. At the very least, Jedi Rocks will be cut down drastically.

4. Take the audio of the victory celebration from the original SE's. That may sound strange to some, but it makes sense to me; in the 04 DVD, a chorus of children or something was added in the background at the Ewok celebration, and that always bugged me.

I kinda like the new music.

5. Remove the Naboo scene completely, only makes the celebration more tedious.

Right now I'm leaning towards removing all the off-world celebrations.

6. Bring back the eyebrows of Shaw, despite what inconsistency it may bring. Seems so odd and creepy to see the man without eyebrows.

I find the bushy eyebrows more creepy

7. Menus ripped from the GOUT. When I rented it I was impressed because it was simple compared to the 04 DVDs and was easy to navigate; plus you didn't have to go through all the trouble of watching the eyecatches any time you chose a new section

My editions don't have any menus, they just go straight into the movie.

Just out of interest, why the skin colour change? Most of the holograms tend towards blue-white blowout in the OT

It's meant to look a little closer to the original Emperor, who has a green cast to his face under the blue hood. Funnily enough, the preceeding holograms of the Star Destroyer captains are almost full colour...

You're welcome!... I don't know what you're talking about, but you're welcome

Will you please do the same for the music in Jabba's palace in Ep. 6? It will undoubtedly be appreciated with a cry of thanks that will ring through out the known star system!

I'll give it a go, sure. I'm a bit reluctant to use GOUT video, but in this case there may be no other option.

Any chance of painting out the shell casings ejected from blasters when they are fired?

I painted them out when I did my un-released from-LD ANH edit, but those that I'd noticed had disappeared on the DVD, presumably a victim of Lowry's clean-up. I will paint them out where I notice them.

It's as the gang are being led by Lando to their surprise confrontation with Vader. They walk down some steps which (since the SE) have a large window behind them - you can see an elevator travelling up the outside of the building through them.

But, when they reach the door and Vader appears, shots of the gang and the stormtroopers behind them don't show the window - just the art-deco style pre-SE wall. It eluded me for a long time because it almost seems like they take a 90 degree turn before the door, but they don't.

Great job with the blade retraction, though, and fixing the jump cut!

Not sure which jump cut you're referring to... the reason the original blade is tracked so badly is that there was never anything to rotoscope it over - it's one shot and Mark Hamill's always holding just an empty lightsabre handle.

I was wondering about the remote too - I thought the change of size was new.

I forget which program I used, but I just selected my USB audio device and hit record (you could probably do it with Sound Recorder if you're a masochist). The audio was saved as a RAW file. I then used HeadAC3he to decode the audio (to PCM WAV - though for archival purposes I would now use FLAC), but these days I would use one of the AC3 plugins for AviSynth. I don't remember having to go from 44.1kHz to 48kHz, but any audio program can do that once you've decoded the channels.

I forget the tricky part - you have to remove the padding that gets inserted into the stream when it comes over SPDIF. I wrote a program to do that, which also checked that there was nothing missing from the stream.

Again, do tell. How exactly is this possible?

I think all the clues are already in this thread - you connect the RF out of the Laserdisc player to a decoder/demodulator, then connect the SPDIF out of that to the SPDIF in on your soundcard (some Laserdisc players have SPDIF out, which simplifies things). I used a USB SPDIF in/out box so there was no mixing, and I got a bit-perfect digital rip of the AC3 audio stored on the Laserdisc. It sometimes took a couple of goes when the soundcard skipped a beat in the middle of a recording, but otherwise all I had to do was strip out the padding between AC3 frames.

Nope, the colours on the DVD have never really bothered me - I may be in the minority, but I like the blue cast to the Tantive IV and the caves on Hoth - I think it makes the ship look less clinical and makes Hoth look less like a set.

The colours have been desaturated slightly in the desert (between the first shots of the droids and R2 in the canyon) and the brightness raised in one shot as Luke steps out to look at the sunset.

Adywan, I must ask... on the colour-corrected shots, have you desaturated those areas that should be white? It stood out a little for me on the shot with the droids and the rebels running past them, and the other 3P0-like droid - there seems to be something wrong about them having no colour at all.

Are we allowed to say "douchebag" here? Because whoever sent you that email is a douchebag! Now, personally, I've briefly mentioned that what Adywan's done is far beyond what I have considered for my edits, and for that reason I haven't commented much - but while I may not agree with what you say... well, you know the rest.

Actually, you know what? I'm offended! Was there nothing in my edit that raised this kid's ire?

Gorilla, thanks to a pointer from Sluggo I've been able to (almost) entirely recreate the original camera angles and dialogue of the Emperor scene from DVD footage - I'm only lacking the word "Luke" from Ian McDiarmid. But this is really a subject for another thread...

Not that I'm being pedantic, but it's as I thought - a solid yellow. You need more elements to accurately replicate a crawl - the characters in a real crawl have some characteristic burn, and there's also a faint red drop shadow. It took me a while to understand why I couldn't match a crawl just by tweaking colours.

Unfortunately my crawl making process isn't suited to being used by others...

Quick question. What is meant by the lightsaber effects on the Millennium Falcon being re-colored? Is Luke's lightsaber now closer in color to how Obi Wan's lightsaber color is while fighting Vader? (This is what I hope!)

It's not the same lightsabre (Luke has his dad's, Obi-Wan has his own) but Luke's now at least gives off a blue glow (actually, one shot I'm not completely happy with, but ho hum) rather than not coloured at all (or, in one shot, freakin' green!).
