Could you do some mock-ups of the speeder chase please? That would be interesting to see.

I'm gonna upgrade to Photoshop CS4 btw :)

Yeah! that sounds good.I always wanted to do something about that

NO STOP RIGHT THERE! If you want to save your soul dont put Cs4. Cs3 is the best.

Ah cool :)

Oh and thanks for warning me - are there certain bugs in CS4 or something?

Angel that's awesome - ROTJ honestly had some bland cinematography (IMO TESB had the best cinematography of all the films for the kind of story it was) and it's great to see that your mock-ups show Endor in a new light - and besides it's the end of the six-film saga and we all need to see something marvelous. I really hope your mock-up idea gets taken on-board when it's time to do ROTJ:R, it would be amazing to see in motion :)

And I also hope Ady takes on the ideas to make Jabba's palace look better too since the scenes kind of looked bland tbh.

I was reading the novel for A New Hope (which was written in 1976) and Vader says that Tatooine is a 'miserable planet' - now we know why he would say this.

But again, that was retconned. When Alan Dean Foster wrote the novel entitles Star Wars he hadn't the slightest idea that one day a whiney young version of the villian he was writting that line for would turn out to have grown up there.

I know it's been retconned in AOTC, but it's just that I think it sounds kind of appropriate in there anyway.

You already know those people, which isn't the same thing as knowing the son of someone you used to know if you never met them.

Ah and this is exactly my point :) Thanks Venal.

Was Vader unaware that Luke was his son or did he know and want to recruit him from the start?

I am genuinely confused. This seems an important bit of canon, but it is explained very hazily.

The problem with the Star Wars trilogy is that it was not planned out from the beginning, but developed over time with constant recons to provide surprising plot twists ("I AM your father!" "Leia! Leia is my sister!"). In all honestly, the original trilogy pre-SE had its fair share of issues, but I think we were all willing to suspend belief and let them slide.

Since Luke's father and Darth Vader were two different people when the first SW was made, Luke growing up with the Skywalker sirname didn't matter. Had George thought of the whole hiding Luke from his evil father thing while he wrote the first film, I am sure he would have seen fit to change his sirname.

Someone on Tatooine should have remembered Shmi or Anikan. They could have said hey Luke your daddy was an asshole LOL.

Anakin lived in Mos Espa and Luke in Mos Eisley. :)

Well Luke may have kept himself at the homestead and near Mos Eisley (and Anchorhead) - so may not have come in contact with anyone from Mos Espa. Though I suppose you're right - that would be rather hilarious :)

I dunno whether Sebulba died between TPM and ANH, but he could tell Luke that his father was a complete muppet.

Actually, that wouldn't have made any difference. Why? Because he didn't have to give Anakin the same surname. Luke Skywalker could have been the changed name, but he instead chose to keep Skywalker as his father's surname.

I don't really see why it had to be changed anyway, because Vader was never going to return to Tatooine and wouldn't have known he had a son to go looking for.

Sorry if I ever gave that impression, Chronus.  I just help where I can credits/lists wise, but I am not an "official" part of these edits by any means.  I enjoy screenshotting the comparison shots, but the one most people see (the ANHR Visual Comparison) was just suggested by me and hosted under my name, Ady did all the work!

It's ok dude.

It was a great read by the way, I loved the whole layout of it :)

And Ady really deserves a medal for what he's done.

I was just wondering about the people doing the sfx, there's Ady and Double0Five, but who else? Sorry for sounding so dumb.

Double0Five isn't doing any Fx work. he is helping out in other areas ( gathering names for credits etc.) I'm doing the majority of the Fx work myself and i have someone helping out with a bit of CG work.

Darth Chronus

I think that window should be the least distracting possible. Its an important shot, you dont want to be amazed by the background while big things are going on.

Agreed but in Angel's mockup the view not only shows a bit more of the majesty of the locale but keeps Vader and Fett firmly in the foreground (in fact they look clearer set against the sun bleached cityscape than they do against the big distracting and largely empty pale blue circle in the original).

My sentiments exactly. I wonder what Ady's gonna have done to it. I was just wondering about the people doing the sfx, there's Ady and Double0Five, but who else? Sorry for sounding so dumb.

It sounds mundane provincial and domestic (no grand political schemes or adventurous ambitions from Beru which is possibly why Owen loves her), therefore A) nice background info, we learn a bit more about the sort of woman who will raise Luke and B) it's adds a bit of grounding realism to a film with arena monsters and battledroids.

 Or it's similar to...

ANAKIN: I hate sand.

I don't have that much of a problem with those lines, just the delivery.

A different actor (and a different director) might have managed to pull it off without coming across as just some pervy teen trying to get into an older girls knickers.

The performances on both sides of the conversation, the direction, the score all came together to make a rather odd bit of cinema which is dances around every possible reaction, romantic, comedic, edgy and still manages to stick it foot in the bear trap of wooden and dull.

It deserves a special award for that.

Ah poor GL. I was reading The Making Of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by J. W. Rinzler today and on page 53 Lucas himself says: 'I'm not known for my dialogue [laughs]'.

- Oh and I'm loving all the mock ups and colour corrections of Cloud City guys, especially Vaderois' view of the city behind the troopers (that are behind Han and co) on page 500. :)

Well, on a positive note, I see this thread has reached 500 pages. Woohoo!

It's all because the Force is clearly strong with TESB :)

Anyway Vaderois' colour correction pics look stunning. I was wondering whether he can do something with that window behind Vader, when Han shoots at him.

I thought the arrival of falcon was at the morning.

and the whole matter evolves during the day and finaly the leave at afternoon.

Any ways, we see the falcon landing with orange sky ,but, we notice to the next shot when the heroes are inside the sky out side(through window) is bright as hell. so? very fast time pacing?

-Angel

That looks amazing. I was thinking more contrast needed to be applied , but what you've done here is better than I'd have imagined it to be :)

Also, nice touch with that slight lens flare.

^the coloring and brightness always bugged me with the Cloud City SE CG shots.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are all that terrible either but did it not occur to one single person that worked on those shots what they actually should have looked like, maybe just throw in a suggestion?

More contrast is basically needed on the shots where the Falcon approaches the landing deck.

- Anyway, a little off topic, but still TESB related - I re-watched TESB today (with the audio commentary) and I forgot how amazingly funny Irvin Kershner was on it, especially when he calls C3PO a 'stupid robot' for interupting Han and Leia's kiss. :D Then I watched the TESB theatrical trailer, since today marks it's 30th Anniversary, and I couldn't recognise Harrison Ford's voice through his 30s style narration, though there is a moment in Blade Runner where he almost talks like that. :)

Here's a new music video I've made btw - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UriqmLVvoEA

I turned on the SpikeTV airings of the 2004 editions (cropped to 16:9) the other day and even my wife pointed out how stinking dark it is in Luke's garage.  It's ridiculous.  I don't know how that happened, but its inexcusable.

That's one of the things that always bugged me.

One of  the script variations with the Imperial city also had the two Death Stars being built around the forest moon of the capital world (bringing the final fight nearer to the centre of the web).

But in that version the Emperor's throne room was deep underground and surrounded by lava.

I've read that script - his Throne Room is deep in the bowels of the Imperial Capital - Had Abbadon. The spirits of Yoda and Obi-Wan also help Luke defeat the Emperor and Vader throws Palpatine into the lava and tries to throw himself in it as well.
