Hm, while I do agree that comic books often take too many liberties with the source material, I'm afraid it's not anything that's going to change soon.

The problem with comic book movies is that it has to condense 70 years of retcons, reboots, and continuity into two hours of cinema and still squeez a plot in there. They tend to aim for the proverbial lowest common denominator--in this case, the general populace who doesn't know the characters' histories like fans. Everything has to be dumbed down for those who are unable or unwilling to follow years of history.

Which is why Batman Begins retold Bruce's origin story and why it introduced Ra's al Ghul gradually instead of having him be the kind of figure he is in the comics.

SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW

I hope Superman gives him the Kryptonian name Van-El.

(This was the name Superman gave his son in the fantasy world depected in the story 'For the Man Who Has Everything' by Alan Moore. Supes was given a present for his birthday by the alien Mongul--A parasite called the Black Mercy that gave Superman his heart's desire in a dream-world while it ate him)

Yeah, crucify me if you want, but even with the horrible treatment of Cyclops and Prof X, I enjoyed X-Men 3 more than the first two. Not that the first two were bad, but it still feels like there's a degree of something... missing.

Same with Superman Returns. Good movie, but not a classic. "Batman Begins" and "Spiderman 2" are still the best, IMO. "Incredbiles" is a close third.

Mine was... Tolerable.

My dad (who, if you'll remember blew two fingers off last August in a fireworks accident) was acting as the safety officer for a show in Lynnville North Carolina. So we had to drive up there, spend a while doing nothing, then spend the night in a tiny podunk motel...

On the bright side, the Fireworks show was pretty good, and I got to read the DC Universe stories of Alan Moore while I was there.

What kind did he blow his fingers off on?

Six inch mortar shell. It exploded just a few inches above the tube instead of in the sky. It wasn't his fault at all, but I'm rather warry of 'proffesional grade' fireworks now.

Yeah, the rating rather confused me too. I think it's just that we're so used to PG-13 meaning "Almost R-Rated" that something barely beyond PG does't feel like that much.

I really enjoyed Superman Returns. It's not as good as Batman Begins, and I really wish there had been a Superbrawl somewhere in the film. The biggest problem was that it didn't really inspire me. Superman is supposed to inspire, and I found Jor-El's words more inspirational than most of the film. That said, it still was quite good. The effects were amazing, and Routh works as Superman. The suit even didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Lois Lane, though, I don't know. Kate Bosworth did a fine job for who she is and what her part was, but I still think Lois should have been cast as somebody older and with more spunk. I'm so used to the Dana Delany version of Lois that this version just didn't feel 'right' if you know what I mean.
