My point in bringing this all up was not to equate anything with anything, but to "raise awareness" (God, I hate that phrase) about reading in general. How many adults would know who wrote The Idiot? Or Walden and Civil Disobedience? Or Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde?

Yes, what this guy did was most likely a publicity stunt, but let's face facts. Think about how much time we spend in front of the tube (I don't CARE what it is), how much time surfing the web (non-business related), playing video games, etc. Does your reading time REALLY amount to more time than that?

So what? So we should all read more so twits like this can feel good about the country? What..ev..er.

As long as you're doing something that enriches your mind, who cares what it is. Playing games increases hand eye coordination. You can learn things from the TV. You can learn things by surfing the web. Reading is not the only way to learn things or entertain yourself.

You're right. Whatever. Keep happily becoming a drone, and buy all the shit they yell at you about in the commercials.

Sage, I normally agree with you, but seriously, shut up. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to read. I love a good book, but some people don't, and your acting all superior to those people that don't is only gonna piss them off.

The guy who burned all those books was an idiot because he's assuming the problem is with everyone else and not with his own inventory or methods of advertising, and hence wasted a bunch of books that he could have sold on ebay or donated to a Goodwill store/library etc.

When I saw this on the news I wanted to go beat the crap out of that guy. It's a stupid stunt that makes stupid assumptions. Hey, dude, ever think that maybe the problem isn't that people don't want to read, it's just they want, I don't know, NEW BOOKS instead of used ones?

I'd kill to have a Barnes and Nobel in my town and I've been to the local used bookstore once.

Let's clap for the first guy to randomly dump on the movie just becuase it's cool to do so!

Blu-ray (or HD-DVD) questions

This is the movie industry we're talking about.

Anywho, not having graduated from college yet, I really don't have the money to even think about getting a Blu-Ray or HDDVD player at the moment, so I may be a bit biased when I say 'wait to see who wins the format war'.

But that's how I feel. It seems completley pointless to have a chunck of movies only released in one format just because the big dogs of the industry can't agree on a standard format.

We've already seen a supposedly real (confirmed by the stuido) shot of what Rorschach will look like in the film.

Though I seriously hope they do a version that actually has the ink-under transparent material from the book. A Rorschach mask that doesn't change from shot-to-shot isn't a Rorschach mask.

Yeah, I've heard about it.

Not sure what to think of it.

I get the feeling that Miller is becoming more conservative in his old age. Just based on my own gut. Nothing else.

Miller's definitely right-wing, but not exactly conservative. Whores whores whores whores!

Thinking of picking up the first volume of Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus. Have to look it over. Not sure if I want to invest the time or $$ over four volumes of a series that never got finished.

Anyone else read Watchmen? Picked it up last week and am reading it now.

Watchmen is the ultimate graphic novel; no story I know of has come close to surpassing it.

What the heck? Your crazy. I'm gonna have to upgrade my PC to play this game!

There's more to graphics than technical capabilities. For instance, every Terran unit/structure looks like a plastic, child's toy. While it looks better in motion and it won't hurt the gameplay, it looks dumb.

All the Terran buildings I've seen look pretty much identical to their Starcraft I counterparts, just rendered instead of sprites. I personally think it looks fine, though I guess I can see the 'toy' look you're talking about. I personally thought the same thing about the original Starcraft, but found it enjoyable all the same.
