In fact, I am having a hard time remembering too many other NES games that had the ability to save. My only real complaint about the original Metroid is the fact that you can't duck and shoot, those guys that are just under your line of fire get really annoying.
Yeah, the lack of crouch'n'shoot is one of the things I forgot to mention. Seems odd that it wasn't there when games of the same era like Contra had it. As for the maps, I know I could probably find one online, but I prefer to use as little outside help as possible. It's hard to feel like you've beaten a game when others do most of the work for you.
Hmm, I got the chance to play Metroid Fusion for a bit, and while I liked the overall feel of how the game played, I didn't like all the text boxes poping up all the time. I am used to Metroid being a fast paced action game with the only narrative being confined to the instruction manual, or as with Super Metroid only at the beginning and end of the game. It feels kind of annoying playing that kind of game and having to stop and read all the time. Samus' sprite didn't quite look right either, usually she is very tall and slinder, in fusion she seemed kind of hunched over and boxy. More brute like.

Metroid Fusion was my first Metroid game, so all the talking didn't really bother me like it might someone who started with the older games.
You really need to play towards the end, because the game REALLY opens up after you finish the scripted missions (and those aren't nearly as straight forward as the first appear) The scenes where Samus has an internal monologue also manage to reveal a lot more about her character than all the other games of the series put together. And there's nothing quite as awesome as the segments where you have to avoid the SA-X. And I won't spoil the plot, but there's a couple great twists towards the end. (Well, great for a handheld game anyway.)
As for the hunched-overness, I thought about that was a bit odd myself, but I don't think she's actually hunched over, it's just an illusion due to all the pieces that have been carved off her typical armor suit. She doesn't look hunched over in the 3D version of the Fusion Suit seen in Metroid Prime.

Watch it.

It definitely began a phenomenal series, though. Metroid Fusion is possible the best-designed game I've ever played.

Anybody else catch the Vols/South Carolina game?
That was....
I don't even know HOW to describe it. Tennessee dodged a bullet.. No, not a bullet, a hail of gun fire.
They were up 21-0 at half time. They didn't score AT ALL in the second half, while South Carolina dominated, and scored 3 times. So it was 21-21. South Carolina scored a field goal and almost another touch down until it was intercepted.
Tennessee made a mediocre drive in which their biggest gain was due to a forward fumble that a BACK UP line man recovered. They get into touchdown range, fumble AGAIN and recover. The quarterback has to spike the ball. Nine seconds on the clock; they kick a field goal and MISS.
But there's a penalty on the play. Five yards back, repeat the down.
The second attempt, the guy hits the field goal. 24-24. The game goes into overtime. As pitiful as Tennessee as the Vols have been doing, overtime has disaster written all over it. They lose the toss and have to do Offense first. They don't make it to the endzone and have to kick a field goal, and it's good.
South Carolina gets the ball. All the need is a touchdown to win, but they don't get it, the attempt sails over their guys head. They have to kick a field goal, and their kicker is incredible.
The kicker then misses what should have been an easy kick.
So it was like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and having victory get mad and take it back.

Anywho, I went to Gamestop... then Wal-Mart... then K-Mart looking for Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, which was supposed to come out today. None of them had it. But at K-Mart I happened upon a game I've heard good things about, Rogue Galaxy with a price sticker of only $10, so I bought it. (And actually ended up only being charged $7 for it.)
Not had time to play it yet, though. Anyone here know about it?

I so would have bough those if FUNi hadn't been so dishonest about them and just released them in their proper aspect ratio.

Wow, I had no idea this had happened... I was thinking about eventually getting the series for completion's sake, but it sounds like I should wait.
And here I thought FUNimation was finally becoming more competent.

And, well, still. 1987 is after 1985, and Dragon Ball Z appeared in 1989, still a good three years before Street Fighter II.

That said, they're still both better than 90% of what's on the market, just to put things into perspective.
Man, I wish there was away to unlock the old NES Metroid without having a GBA and Fusion. It would be fun to be able to play that again without having to hook up my old NES.
Well, you can also get it by beating Zero Mission on Hard Mode (I think)..

Prime is the best of the 'Prime' games. Metroid Prime 2 is still a good game, but nowhere near as well-designed as the first. Prime 3 is better than Prime 2, but still not as good as the first one.
Both Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission for the GBA are fantastic, however. Those are definitely two you must play.
Prime Hunters is only worth it if you can play a DS online and are really good at it. The single player game looks gorgeous but is pretty unremarkable. Prime Pinball is supposedly good... You know, if you're into pinball video games.

Now I'm not denying that there are fanatics in this world with... interesting... takes on Christianity (or any other religion for that matter) but these fanatics have almost no real political power and no credibility with either major political party.

Northern Lights/Golden Compass is the first book in the His Dark Materials Trilogy, so at least one third of it will be made even if it is unsucessful. But I highly doubt it will be, with how popular the books have been, no doubt this thing will really take off. Childrens' fantasy is the type of thing that sells these days. But then again, you never know.
I was actually surprised with how well Narnia did, I wasn't expecting it to be as popular as it was. The things that make the books so great doesn't translate to the screen very well, and the Christian community took to it like mad. It was kind of annoying to pass church buildings and see them advertising it on their signs. I don't even think Lucas would have like it being pushed so much as an allegory, something he was not to fond of. He had an interesting idea in mind when he wrote it, and he added a good dose of his personal theology to it, which he did with most of his fiction. But people take it now as event for event allegory of the gospels, which it is not. People write books about it and give sermons on it, for Pete's sake, if it is what you are trying to make it be, then it is a bit redundant isn't it? Why should you have to wrap your Bible stories in fantay before you can throughly appreciate them. Eleminate the middle man, when you want a Bible story pick up your Bible. Narnia is much more than that. Anyone who has read much of Lewis' works will understand this. Lucas himself admited to not being the fondest of allegory, and said that people tend to take it to extremes and see things that were not intended by the author (too true!), this is most certainly the case with his books.

I agree with this to a degree. It seems like all traditional news outlets--Fox News included--seem to get their pleasure in life from making viewers as worried as possible about the state of the world. It kind of gets tiring after a while.
Half-hour News Hour is pretty funny too. (The first episode not so much, but subsequent episodes have been good)
