ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread

How about the latest episode?

Watched it now: it’s a bit better, using the same formula as the first arc, meaning being bored to death for 2 episodes and having some reward for the last one. Action is a bit generic and the human like Gungans are ridiculous (especially when Disney keeps pushing the “united colors of beneton” even on tribes that could not really experience mixity, but Disney is what it is nowadays…). Top Imp guy is too much of the bad guy cliché for the show to pretend to be more than a “Nolan’s kind of serious stuff for teenagers”, so I’m really not sold on it to be so layered and adult (again, it requires more than people not smilling to get this label, but I see the efforts the show provides to try to be more than pretentious pulp stories). It was a bit mediocre but not worse than the average shows on tv. Visually it’s a good job: too grey oriented but some photography work that here and there pumps up tension with “oh, it looks cool” moments (ie the Tie fighters short scene). I’ll probably keep watching to see if the second part of the season can build on something satisfying; if it doesn’t, that’s ok: I don’t have high expectations about it. The music is totally lame btw.

Sometimes when I see this show, I wonder what a really good star wars high tech thriller could have been in the hands of the great Tony Scott (who knew how to make adult movies - Spy games, Enemy of the state, Man on fire, etc. - where you can still be entertained; something Gilroy doesn’t quite know how to do).

Still way better than the Ben show for sure (the lowest point of Disney wars on tv).

Considering your use of the term “Disney Wars” and the way you seem to search for things to rant about, i’m sorry but i can’t take this post seriously.

You’ve already made up your mind about the show and nothing will ever change your opinion. As long as the franchise belongs to Disney, nothing will ever be good or good enough for you.

I would almost bet that if the show would have been made exactly like this under GL’s supervision (or without Disney being involved), you would be far more generous to the show.

How big was Anchorhead during the OT?
Time

Servii said:

I personally prefer to think that the OT town of Anchorhead was only founded maybe a couple generations before ANH by human settlers, and that KOTOR’s Anchorhead was essentially a different town by the same name that no longer exists by the time of the Empire.

I imagine there would be only a couple hundred residents or so, a large portion of which would be children that young Luke might have played with and befriended. Unlike Mos Eisley, the town would be predominantly human. The town itself wouldn’t have a spaceport, but there would be regular travel between Anchorhead and the closest port towns, like Mos Eisley. Anchorhead would also be close enough to Luke’s home for him to not feel uncomfortable giving Ben a ride there. Basically, the town would have been in the same “neighborhood,” and part of Luke’s mundane world, and so wouldn’t represent the same threshold crossing as Mos Eisley did.

Great answer, but from OWK it seems that in canon the town has far more than just a few hundred inhabinants.

Think it's possible that, in canon, Padme didn't die in ROTS
Time

Finally read “ESB FACPOV” and the short story “Disturbance” made me wonder.

In this story, Sidious had visions which revealed Luke’s identity and relationship to Vader to him.

In one of these visions, which weren’t very dreamlike but mostly realistic versions of events that could really happen, Padme stands on Vader and Luke’s side, during their coup against Palpatine. And Sheev didn’t seem to be surprised seeing her alive.

So is it possible that she didn’t really die in ROTS, according to canon and might be back in Luke and Leia’s life at some point after ROTJ?

Maybe she was just in a coma or deathlike state after giving birth, imprisoned and kept away by Sheev from Vader to keep him on the dark side and of course his loyalty.

There was this theory years ago that Palpatine drained her, resulting in her death.

Perhaps it wasn’t completely wrong, beside the death part.

He could have used Sith magic to influence her, eventually resulting in a depression and then coma or a state superficially resembling death.

Which mother would lose the will to live with two children relying on her? And could something like that really cause her to die?

Think Palps planned this already for a long time.

Sidious may have kept her alive to have an ace up his sleeve, in case Vader openly tried to rebell or kill him.

It would be absolutely in line with Palpatine’s character.

Another point for this story being the first kind of reveal for Padme being still around, may be the Vader reveal in ESB.

It would be kinda fitting that a book celebrating ESB, would have the first hint for Luke’s (and Leia’s) mom still being alive…

Anyone else prefering the way buildings on Tatooine looked like, before the SE and the Prequels?

I prefer Tatooine to be a random planet than being the place where Darth Vader was born

I mean, it was already implied in ANH that Luke’s father and Owen were from there.

Yep. By the way, when the first serious news of George wanting to do the prequels arised in 1994, one of my first memories of imagining what would be in Episode I is seeing an adult Anakin sitting together with his longtime friend Obi-Wan as well as Owen and Beru in the homestead, talking about the Clone Wars and the state of the Galaxy.

The original version of Mos Eisley:

The special edition changed the architecture of most of the buildings and introduced new buildings not in line with the OOT Tatooine style:

https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress...&fit=crop&w=450&h=225&dpr=1.5

Many of the buildings in Mos Eisley were originally smaller and looked to be more functional and unadorned.

Some of them also were kind of different in their shape. A few of them became more elongated and/or had ornaments that weren’t there before.

As i said before, i prefer the more minimalistic buildings of the OOT.

Can’t remember ever reading anything about it, but if they built it, i’d guess they would have used it at least for some test sequences.

I have no idea what scene you’re talking about, so I’m gonna say no to all that.

The article i mentioned in my first post, pretended that a scene would exist with Luke opening up an AT-AT from below with his lightsaber, similar to the existing scene in ESB where Luke uses this trick to bring explosives inside the walker to stop it with the detonation, enters it to fight with the stormtroopers inside.

Could imagine that during the production someone may have had this idea and shoot some test scenes for this, before abandoning the concept.

I definitely do. Old Tatooine felt more desolate and mysterious. It felt like a place in a Spaghetti Western crossed with Arrakis. The Mandalorian sort of got that vibe back, but not quite. Prequel Tatooine didn’t really have that quality as much. There was the homage to The Searchers in AotC, but the planet in general was made much more bustling and lively.

I hadn’t really thought much about the difference in architecture, to he honest. I always noticed more how the general atmosphere was different.

Yeah, that exactly how i see it too. Especially Mos Pelgo was portrayed relatively similar to the OOT version of Anchorhead and Mos Eisley. Although, as you said, not quite there.

If you compare the footage of Mos Eisley in the OOT to that of the SE, you can see that the buildings became bigger and there were also changes in their architectal style.

Grogu is the chosen one, not Anakin...

This is not so far from making Rey or Leia the chosen one, instead of it being Anakin, so why not?

Though I preferred it when there was no chosen one. A more civilized time!

That’s true. I feel the same way. The concept of a Chosen One was another bad idea George came up with imho.

My post about Grogu wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. Was just meant as a joke.

What about reusing McQuarrie's artworks for Had Abbadon (Coruscant) for an ancient Sith World in a future show or movie?

Emre1601 said:

The link does not work for me, but as Star Wars has a habit of reusing old and unseen stuff we could see something like it in The Acolyte or a future series where Sith or dark force users have a base?

It is always nice too see more Ralph McQuarrie art used on screen, or stuff inspired by him and his drawings.

Yeah, absolutely!

Think that especially these matte paintings would work great for an ancient (and possibly abandoned) Sith planet:

Grogu is the chosen one, not Anakin...
Time

The prophecy was made by a member of Yoda’s species 25.000 years ago and disappeared around 3000 BBY until 1000 BBY. Language changed a lot over all these millennia.

When it was found again by jedi historians they mistranslated the term @€4# into “Sith”, while it originally meant “Frog”.

So balance of the force was never meant to be reached by destroying the Sith but by eradicating all the frogs in the galaxy.

On Ossus, Luke intuitively felt the truth about the prophecy. That’s why he levitated all the frogs around Grogu and said he would become an important Jedi if he stayed.

Anakin Skywalker was able to become a force ghost not for destroying the Sith or saving Luke but because he showed mercy to Grogu and saved him during the attack on the Jedi Temple.

But one important Sith plays a role in the prophecy, Darth Plagueis aka the Frog Lady, who becomes the main antagonist of Mandalorian Season 3 and possibly all the future seasons. Her eggs contain the secret of eternal life.

So Din needs to bring Grogu to all the planets of the galaxy and let him eat all the frogs in the GFFA to bring balance to the force 😉

Always liked this version far more than the sterile Coruscant of the Prequels. Had Abbadon looked way more ancient, creepy and ominous, almost like something out of a nightmare, in Ralph McQuarrie’s art.

So basically no additional story elements, dialogues or anything with alternative worldbuilding information like Han with the girl (Jenny?) in the cantina during the rough cut for ANH?

There are probably some alternate line deliveries, or different pieces of dialogue that suggest other things. Han saying “That bounty hunter we ran into on Ord Mantell changed my mind” was cut, which implies another adventure they had before ESB, for example.
It is likely however, that we generally know about just about everything that was cut, and that there aren’t any big subplots, sequences or scenes that have been cut out or kept under wraps.
People will debate forever still though that Luke missed the first time during their chasm swing, or Leia spat on Tarkin, or Vader’s TIE exploded, or the Biggs scenes were in there from the start. It’s fun to think about, but it’ll never be proven in anyway.

“I love rumors! Facts can be so misleading, but rumors, true or false, are often revealing.” - Hans Landa

As someone who loves deleted scenes, and specifically Star Wars deleted scenes, there is no deleted wedding scene.

I’ve read several drafts of ROTJ, story treatments and development notes, and books upon books of making-of material. I’ve looked at call sheets, photos, raw footage, dallies, pre-vis, concept art, animatics and anything and everything related to deleted scenes.
I can safely say there was never any wedding scene shot or shown anywhere in the world on any international TV station, or early showing, or uncle’s VHS tape, or George’s garage.
Potentially this was some idea that was floated in early production, or during the late 70s with George planning out his larger 9-15 film saga, but there is no evidence to support this.
Most drafts end on Endor/Had Abbadon, celebrating the Empire’s defeat, with no reference to Han/Leia planning to get hitched.

There wasn’t even a wedding mentioned until 93 with the Prophets of the Dark Side novel. The new canon now says they snuck away on Endor to get married, but that wasn’t until 2017, in Aftermath: Life Debt.

Basically, there is no wedding scene that was scripted, storyboarded or shot in any shape or form.

These things fascinate me too.

Do you think it’s possible that Lucas, Kershner or Marquand shot scenes that are possibly still unknown by now and not to be found in any of the drafts and that we never ever heard of?

And that were possibly never were used for adaptions like the novelizations or comics or mentioned anywhere.

Is such a thing really possible, considering all the things we know by now about the making of the OT?

I’m gonna definitely say no to both claims here. This is the first I’m hearing of it and there has never been any mention of any scene in anything I’ve ever read, watched or listened to.

Found another interesting comment about Han and Leias wedding on a german site about cutscenes:

"Also from me a big thank you for the SB’s of the original trilogy. But I also have a question about the deleted scenes, could it be that a scene has been forgotten? Years ago I saw a little piece of the wedding between Leia & Han on Dutch TV, in a cinema show (which at the time also aired the other end of little shop of horror from 86). This has stuck in my head to this day and for this reason I now ask whether the author of the SB can perhaps shed some light on this as well?

Thank you and also from me: May the force be with you!!! Greetings from charmingbaer"

It’s also strange that apparently no one either asked Rinzler or Hidalgo about these rumors and/or noone from Lucasfilm so far denied that these scenes at least may have existed.

my memory isn't that bad, is it? (in SW '77 - Luke misses with the grappling hook?)
Time

By the way, i also wonder why the cut Wampa sub plot for ESB never appeared in Donald Glut’s novelization, while it was part of the Marvel adaption.

Especially because it was written before the production of the movie was in its later stages and even described Yoda’s body differently as being blue for example.

Is it even if only theoretically possible that footage for the OT exists or existed that didn’t was ever revealed or used anywhere?

Not even in the the earlier drafts?
