Shit, I don't know, somewhere back that way...
*waves hand towards previous pages in the thread*
I've seen you recall threads that are like 4 years old and you can't remember 2 pages ago?
I think we need to inform the senate that your ability to use the force has diminished.

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it (although slightly saddened that not the HD version).
As to your comments, there is no such shot anywhere near 54:30. If there are any encoding problems like that, I'd definitely like to catch those for v1.2.
I've had issues playing AVCHD disks in the past. My PS3 doesn't seem to want to read them.
I figured I'd pull it anyway to rip out the higher res video but I'll wait for 1.2 now.
Can anyone confirm that this works in a PS3?

Yeah, that's a major fail.
I love you too.
Sorry, my heart belongs to the sea.
Same story, different version.
I watched Star Wars last night and I almost cried it was so beautiful. The GOUT shots blended seamlessly and in many cases, even know I know what you did, I still couldn't spot any imperfections.
Since you are solicited input on any issues for 1.2, I thought I throw out 2 minor glitches I saw, although I suspect they may either be the result of the render or the compression to create the DVD5:
-At around 54:30, there's a single frame of a few gray blocks above the Falcon as it zooms overhead chasing the Tie-Fighter.
-There was a similar single frame of gray blocks during one of the Tie-Fighter explosions during the final battle but now I can't seem to find it.

Actually, I think that is his penis.

... the relationship between Vader and the Emperor was much more scary when we DIDN'T know all the crappy PT backstory. We see how horrible Vader is, and everyone concerned says he's nothing compared to the Emperor, who spends most of his time shrouded in a hood. But in the PT, Vader is a whiny young brat and the Emperor is essentially a power-hungry crazy guy they goes all Gollum in the process. Sometimes less is more.
Bingo. Lucas answered questions people weren't asking.
Another example was when, in ANH, the imperial officer says "how will the emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?" It's a brilliant line. Then in the PT, they actually show us the bureaucracy. Ugh.
Come on, ET was there. How can you not love ET. He has the power to using his glowing finger to turns guns into walkie talkies.

My real goal is to find someone who doesn't know Vader is Luke's father. Then things will get interesting. Then it will be straight original trilogy, all Harmy's Despecialized Editions, of which the awesomeness bleeds all the way over to this thread.
I'm wearing a Harmy T-Shirt to Celebration VI.
Then someone needs to get this thing and walk around playing SW DeEd.

That's not entirely true, I was 12 when Episode 1 came out and for the years leading up to the release, I would constantly ask my brother when 1, 2, and 3 were coming out. When I got the 1995 faces VHS's for Christmas (as I recall) I hung onto every word Lucas said in the interviews at the beginning. At that time, I definitely wanted more.
So while it is true that I was disappointed with the end result (although not as much as some), I was still asking for them and I'm sure I wasn't alone. If people didn't want more, the EU novels wouldn't have sold so well during these same years.
She really didn't have a whole lot to say about characters until we got to Empire. There was some stuff early on about Anakin being emo and a jerk but she forgave him because of his pretty hair.
With Empire, she had a pretty strong reaction to Han and Lando. She laughed appropriately to Han and Leia's banter and said she really liked Han because he was a cool jerk instead of the douche bag jerk Anakin was. Really got into the love story and didn't start wincing at all the kissing scenes as she did in episode II. Now, while she didn't have anything negative to say about Han's character in Jedi, I think she did kinda loose interest in the love story this time because she once again reacted negatively to Han and Leia's scene at the end where she tell's him Luke is her brother and they smooch and cuddle with their new Ewok friend.
I could tell she really got into Lando because of how strong she reacted to him betraying them. Although she didn't say anything specifically about him. Also, as I said earlier, she stated that she felt sorry for Vader during Empire because she knew what had happened in the prequels.
^wibbly wobbly timey wimey
This pretty much sums up everybody's point nicely.
http://www.cracked.com/article_18813_5-reasons-hollywood-needs-to-stop-making-prequels.html
Except maybe the Narnia stuff. I should probably read those BTW.
I basically just consider the prequels to be glorified EU material. You can take them or leave them but at the end of the day, the originals are all that really matter. The originals can exist without the prequels, it doesn't doesn't work the other way around.
I've never read a single EU book other than the Episode 2 novelization, Shadows of the Empire, and some comics, but I accept the details as canon. That's how I view the prequels and the Clone Wars.

And I still say that watching the prequels and knowing the story makes Return of the Jedi a much better film once you know more about Vader and Palpatine.
From a certain point of view. Always, always, from a certain point of view ;-)

Are you going to be using any of the GOUT footage for the Rancor scene like you did in the theatrical reconstruction? The change over was really distracting. Since you did remove the garbage mattes in SW DeEd I don't see why you'd want to keep the matte lines in Jedi.
A) I don't see what garbage mattes have to do with this. Garbage mattes are something completely different than matte lines. Matte lines were visible in cinemas every time since opening day until 1997 or 2004. Garbagge mattes, under ideal conditions, should not be visible - they are there but you don't see them - and that's exactly what I did in SW DeEd: I adjusted the levels to make the garbage mattes invisible. If you pumped up the brightness in those shots, you'd find the garbage mattes are still there.
B) I don't think the original Rancor was distracting in the Reconstruction - all the shots except for maybe one blended in really well, because I used natively anamorphic footage from GKar 97SE.
C) The GKar footage would look like shit in HD and so does the GOUT in this scene, so after unsuccessfully trying to somehow restore the original compositing, while using the HD footage (like I did here or here for example), I decided to just leave in the 04SE shots. I'm seriously not happy about it but it seems like I don't really have a choice in the matter.
That would have been sweet to see the original composition restored, but in this case, with the rest of the cut being so smooth, I'd rather see the new comp than the old comp with low res footage. Especially in a scene like this were it would have to switch back and forth a lot.
I just finished the DL for Empire and that Falcon shot does look pretty awesome.

that one line about Jabba's intolerance for lousy smugglers is really the only "sore thumb" in the whole business.
ALSO it ruins the big reveal of who and what Jabba is in Jedi.
it also shows the Millenium Falcon before it´s actual "introduction"
Did Lucas put ANY thought in this before making the changes ?
@OP
interesting read !
Yeah, especially considering that when Luke and company walk into the see the falcon for the first time, the big swelling reveal music which reaches it's height only to be cut of by "what a piece of junk" is completely stupid since we just saw the damn thing like 2 minutes ago.
