It means I can caculate the average running time. At the moment the it's about 3600.

That's using these settings:

Phase1: 30, 20, 18, 16, 15.
Phase2: 750, 450, 400, 250.
Phase3: 450. (450,450,450,450).

It could be possible to do better by tweaking Phase3 further, something like:

Phase3: 550, 350, 350, 450.

Phase1:

Get counter.
Get as many people as possible on zero, by creating other members with counts.

Phase 2:

Group the tokens together in powers of 2. Starting at 2 and ending at 16.

Phase 3:

Count all remaining tokens.

For Phase 3 to work you need to allocate time to count all the 16 grouped tokens to the counter, then all the (remaining) 8 ones, 4 ones, 2 ones and then all the single tokens (there shouldn't be any, but it can happen that there is).

You don't require the counter to go directly after anyone, ever. You require the counter to go sometime after anyone else trying to get rid of tokens, but not directly after. Once the light is switched on by the person with the tokens, it is only switched off once someone adds the tokens to their own count. Everyone else can ignore the light being on and wait for the counter to enter the room again.

I would hardly call that a two-bit sci fi flick.

If I was an actor, I would want to be part of it!
Welcome Cups-Of-Zen, but that's inaccurate. According to Guinness the highest box office gross adjusted for inflation is Gone With The Wind.

Just for the benefit of LaserMan (or anyone else wanting to send discs from Australia to another country), postage should in theory cost $3.60 unless the PO are ... meanies and make you pay parcel rates (as long as it's under 20MM thickness you should get away with envelope postage). If they try to charge you more, tell them you think it classifies as envelope rates (and it does)! You will still have to fill in a customs form. Sometimes the PO doesn't ask you to, sometimes they even tell you not to fill one in! But it should have a customs form on it, otherwise it might be delayed due to being opened by customs later. See anything that contains non-printed material needs a custom form, even if it is an envalope.

-edit-

And a good idea is to ask the PO for a number of custom forms so that you can have them handy in the future. That way you can force having one attached to the .... "envalope" parcel.

Idea: My idea for the ultimate pre-ANH edition

Well, if it is only the crawl that is different, sure tack it on then. But use the original crawl, not a generated one. I know it is a little hard due to the inavailablitiy of sources there, but generating a new crawl to look like the old one is just re-making the crawl again anyway. I was under the impression that the audio mixes were different between 1977 and 1981, and that maybe some different takes were used here and there in the video as well. Anyhow, it is possible that the 1981 crawl pre-dated the 1977 one anyway, since apparantly Lucas always wanted it that way but the studio wouldn't let him. If that was the case, we would expect the 1977 crawl to look more revised in terms of word spacing than the 1981 crawl.

I seem addicted to DotA. I don't even own the game, I use a friend's CD Key.... he lets me. Of course I have my own burnt disc to play it off (it's a legitimate legal back-up of HIS game). So I guess you could say it's his back-up copy, but I use it. So long as we aren't both using them at the same time, we are not breaking copyright law. That is to say there is nothing illegal about having the game installed on two computers at the same time, so long as both computers aren't playing it at the same time. Look at all the confusion I've caused.

Info: What is preservation?
Time

Previous attempts haven’t seen everyone express themselves to the fullest. However I will start with some quotes:

Originally posted by: zion

In my version, one will watch the story. You’ll be sucked in and you’ll stay there. You won’t be distracted from it by basic technical errors and out-of-place visuals. That’s it. This forum is a celebration not of a “version”, but of the original experience. My restoration recaptures that experience, certainly as I see it, and probably as most people see it. But this isn’t for anyone but me, and so far I can tell you I’m quite happy. When I watch the restored portions I’ve done, I quickly forget where and what I’ve fixed… I’m just no longer seeing things that are obviously incorrect. It’s a smooth landscape again, and I’m watching the characters, and feeling the emotions. Mike, that is EXACTLY the same way I feel, as I’m sure the rest of us do. Preservation should be about recapturing the experience, not about what was on a reel of film back in '77. Thanks for reminding me why I do this.

I agree wholeheartedly, for me it is about recreating how I felt in 1977 as a kid watching in awe.
Even then there were one or two things that pulled me out of the movie for a few seconds and broke the spell, (now there are a lot more) and for my own version I intend to fix anything that breaks you out of the moment.
Getting lost in the film is what its about for me, and I can’t do that with the laserdisc version, and I absolutely can’t with the SE DVD!

Yes this argument I have come to understand. It is arguing that preservation should be about re-creating the experience one experienced for others. The real problem with this argument that it is only about yourself - about your ideas about the movie. About your experience. Whatever you change, can effect other’s experiences. Not to mention that everyone who sees Star Wars has their own individual experience.

I think it would be good to hear people voice their own opinions. Please don’t start arguments or discussions in this thread, you post your own individual thoughts. Mine are…

Preservation is about history. It’s about showing people the work of others. And respecting that individuality. Allowing others to express themselves through art, and then preserving that art for others to see (even if the artist goes and alters his own work later).

First, regarding shirt orders: I'm sorry for the delay, but I had a family trajedy at the end of last year that sent me home to Chicago for a while... The kind of trajedy that shuts down life for a bit.

I'm sorry to hear that Mike. I hope you have good year this year.

I don't have any problem with anything anyone says about my restoration.

Thankyou Mike. I will start a new fresh thread dedicated to that debate, as it has been in your thread far too long.

-edit- just to clarrify I didn't start the thread for debate, just for people to share their own individual thoughts on the topic.

I hope someone out there will have the know-how to create the ultimate DVD-R of STAR WARS pre-ANH. This would be, like a previous DVD-R, a recreation of the original 1977 theatrical print with the digitally re-created original crawl, minus the "Episode IV" tag.
That would just be the 1981 version with a generated crawl. The title crawl is just one of the changes made to the 1981 version, if you change bits and pieces of it you only end up with a hybrid version. Imagine tacking on the theatrical ending to the director's cut of blade-runner. Is that going to make it the theatrical version?

Would it do anything to preserve the theatrical version? Or would we just be kidding ourselves.

Thankyou Dr_Gonzo for posting a reply from the creators of the set in question. I have no (and never had any) intention of obtaining this set myself. However as I said before, I don't think they should be demanding other's don't distribute them. I don't know why no one has answered my earlier question; what's so special about a generated crawl tacked on to the 1981 (LD) cut? I can understand interest in the other audio tracks available with this set, it does sound quite the premium set there! I would like to see the 1977 cut restored in full glory to DVD - however what we have here isn't it.Originally posted by: Neil S. Bulk
What LD was the primary source for these, the 1993 CAV discs or the 1995 CLV discs?

Neil
1993 DE CAV LD's, apparently. According to others more knowledgeable than me in these things the 1993 and 1995 discs were both made from the same the master-tapes. ANH had more sharpening applied in the 1993 discs, making the 1995 ones the better source for it, and apparently the other two movies are on par.

DUH, genius, if Jay isn't replying to my PM... maybe you can help me Zion, after all you are a Mod now. I'll tell you what it is in PM as it's private, please get back to me ASAP when you get my PM.

- And back to the thread - it sure is hard to make an NFO for a set that no one claims

I didn't even notice you'd been made mod Zion, you would certainly have been my first choice. Then again, the less moderation the better... to a point anyway... but still, congrats man. I just realized I said something negative:
without someone as clueless as you trying to somehow blame me for it.
Just so you know, I'm sorry - and I am striving to achieve 100% positive posts.

Aside from that, may I be the first to question: If this version is just an LD rip with a generated title-crawl, what's so special about it? I mean it isn't the 1977 cut, it's still the 1981 version, correct?
