STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Wow....what a treat. THANKS!

Incredible. I friggin' love the new spider, the retouched colors, Vader's helmet fix, the new consistent R2 shot with blue in the background, the subtle tweaks. Speaking of the spider, is that a new rustling sound I hear added from the movement from the spider or am I imagining it?

The new clip is much appreciated. Fantastic work.

The Dagobah miniature is about to get filmed. Some last little tweaks with the lighting, especially the rear illumination, then to fill the room with smoke and start shooting. This is just a quick hand-held test shot and not a representation of how it will appear in the finished version. (Click on image to view it full size)

Oh man.....looking awesome!

can't wait for the official RotJ:R thread to open ;-)

Its been cool to follow the progress of these edits over the years. Feels like yesterday we were all pondering the arm on the floor of the cantina. I also look forward to the ROTJR thread. Its a fun time if you are lucky enough to be around during the beginning of projects as awesome as this to make early suggestions and get involved in the discussions.

Anyway, looking forward to this edit as is everyone else.

Hi! I have returned from a long, LONG absence.

I'd like to start off with a public apology for my childish behavior years ago. If you don't remember, it's best not to. If you do, I promise it won't happen again.

You got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled.

JK, no clue what you did. But I do like your idea about just straight removing the 'lost the will to live' line and perhaps leaving her death more ambiguous. In TPM and AOTC Padme was shown to be a strong person, then by the time ROTS rolls around she becomes pregnant, sits around doing nothing, cries a lot and loses the will to live despite the fact that she has a brand new life to care for.

Considering all that happened she should have even MORE reason to live and protect her child.

Speaking of which, anyone else bothered by Han & Lando suddenly being cool again in ROTJ despite their last meeting in ESB?

I recall a cool moment in the script (I think during the deleted sand storm scene) where they sorta spoke on things and came to an understanding.

LUKE (moving to his ship)
I'll see you back at the fleet.

HAN
Why don't you leave that
crate and come with us?

LUKE
I have a promise I have to keep
first... to an old friend.

Luke and Artoo take off in their spacecraft.

HAN
(looking dubiously at Lando, obviously
remembering his friend's betrayal
and subsequent aid)
Guess I owe you some thanks, too, Lando.

LANDO
Figured if I left you frozen like that
you'd just give me bad luck the rest of
my life, so I might as well get you
unfrozen sooner or later.

LEIA
He means "You're welcome."

LANDO
Come on, let's get off
this miserable dust ball

I believe the original movies will never be available in larger formats. If they do, it wouldn't be worth to have them. To have good 4k/3D movies, you have to make the movie in these formats. And the original trilogy wasn't made that way.

The original unaltered trilogy was filmed on 35mm film which means it CAN be be rescanned and released in perfect 4k and even higher.

It's funny that the unaltered versions are the only Star Wars films that can ever be released in true 4k. The special editions and TPM, although these were shot on 35mm film, the effects work was only done @ 2k. TPM only has a digital master which was used for the blu-rays and was digitized at 2k. The other 2 prequels were shot on digital and are stuck at 1080p/2k forever. So much for George pushing technology. He has doomed his "perfect vision" to what will become an obsolete format, while the versions he wanted to bury are the only ones that survive the next generation.

Who knows, maybe a technology will come along that can do a decent job of up-converting stuff. (doubtful) Thing is, the visual information required for anything close to 35MM simply isn't there at all.

Such a shame. Preservation aside, the PT would have at least looked better at 35mm. TPM is the only one visually close due to it being the last entry shot 35mm. I didn't know about the effects work being done only @ 2k. I always wondered why all the CG didn't blend or was spotty but I just chalked it up to being an older movie.

"What needs to change is the scale of the thing which is a bit flat and mundane for a Star Wars film and the tone which is light and comic which is entirely inappropriate for the climax of a film about war albeit a fantasy one."

I agree on the scale of the ground battle needing to be larger in scope. The lighter moments though arguably help balance things out considering all the stuff between Vader/Luke and Palpatine going on are quite dark and heavy as heck. However, we don't need to keep all the light stuff...maybe just trim it back a bit?

Considering all the work being put into the wing flaps I'm sure they will look awesome in motion. Was that an idea of Ady's to change or something that one of us suggested along the way?

"Bingowings said:There is nothing in the OT as nonsensical as the Jabba's palace rescue in ROTJ and that's the best bit of that film."

"Even I agree with this and ROTJ is my favorite of the three. >.<"

^^ Same here. I recall it was mentioned that ROTJR will be altered more than ANHR & ESBR. So I'm VERY curious about Ady's plans for the Jabba sequence and cannot wait for the eventual thread where we can all discuss it and offer ideas.

Help: looking for... an edit with the Star Wars deleted scenes reinserted
Time

@Ryan McAvoy

I dig that 15 minute test footage.

I could watch the whole movie like that. Seems like a fun alternative.

Just an idea - Maybe leave the whole project black and white, tighten the editing/music here and there and add dust and scratches to the standard footage to blend it all together.

Whatever you decide though - good start - Cool stuff.

From the tests I've seen Adywan's EpV Emperor is gonna look and sound just like ROTJ Palpatine, which is the moment I'm looking forward to more than any other part of ESB:R (I'm expecting Mount-Everest sized goosebumps ;-) ).

I'm also looking forward to Ady's tweaked Emperor VERY much. The SE had the right idea with altering him for continuity in 2004. But they just half-assed it and used Ian as is in ROTS make-up. Better than the original creepy monkey-eyed woman, but still not what it SHOULD be.

How much more work was done to that Emperor scene beyond the trailer and scene Ady provided a few years back? As I recall it was already flawless.

GL of course can say whatever he wants on this matter. He's the creator of SW after all. All respect due.

My view on the fan edit- thing is pretty straight forward. GL is bitter because he doesn't get WHY fans take issue with his edits vs Ady's. Ady is respecting the original films arguably more than GL has. He's also going through the movies with a fine tooth comb and fixing/enhancing all sorts or small/large things. This is a can of worms GL opened btw.

In short, AdY is crafting superior SE's. And he's doing it mostly himself with the help of other talented fans. A true labor of love that puts the 97, 2004 and blu SE's to shame.

Despite GL and ILM giving the movies "3 quality control passes" we still have crappy inconsistent sabers and other nagging problems. If GL had created awesome SE's from the start there would be no need for Adywan's edits.

The backlash GL got was because he kept the theatrcial versions from fans so that left that hardcore fan-base out in the cold. And those of us who are cool with the SE's got lackluster inconsistent versions of the SE movies. That's two large portions of the fan-base left dissatisfied.
