How feasible do y’all think it would be to pull a LOTR and have the “History Lesson” scene be a prologue for the movie? How I imagine it, you would keep Gal Gadot’s narration and just have the scene play out normally, maybe even tack on the “They say the Age of Heroes is over…” line at the end and then go directly into the opening of the film proper.

I’ve actually thought about that idea too.

I think for my own edit of ZSJL, I would have it be both the best version of Zack’s original vision while also having it be the version that probably could’ve been released in theaters back in 2017 by having it, again, be cut down to around three hours.

Apparently Zack Snyder wanted the film to be 2.5 hours, so I guess if I’m able to find the right edits, I could probably try and get it to around that.

Which is why I’m planning on calling the edit the “theatrical cut”

Tho while I’m not a fan with cropping the film, if you had too I’d suggest instead cropping it to the IMAX 1.43. I saw the BVS IMAX scenes in that aspect ratio and it’s simply gorgeous. I think an overlay for it should be available in the link I sent to the curious and if not I can happily share mine.

Thanks! This is great. I love having more movie in the fram, but on my home screen it just feels a little wrong. Too much screen bare same with bars at top and bottom of screen.

No prob!

Does anyone have a guide on how I could crop this to 1.85:1? (Would fill more space than 16:9). I haven’t sourced a copy yet, but I may have to wait the blu ray release and rip a copy. I could go through the cropped movie and make note of all the scenes which which need re-adjusting. The whole movie seems like a long chore to do such a thing.
I’m a newbie to video editing, so this would be a slog.

I’m planning on making my own edits for all four of the DCEU films, the ones I’m most interested in being BVS and ZSJL. For ZSJL specifically, I’d keep the 4:3, but cut out stuff that doesn’t need to be there, and have the whole thing be around 3 hours long.
One of my main inspirations for this edit would be this article-

Keeping the aspect ratio intact and 3 hours runtime sounds all good to me! I also agree with basically everything written in the article. There is a good movie hidden under heaps of excess and I think you’re on the right track to unearth it. Good luck with the edit!

Thanks!

I apologize again for constantly going back and forth on this but this will be the last time I change direction. I updated the main info above to as to why I changed my mind but I’m going back to having this edit be taking season one and editing it as a two part film. Season two which I’ve decided to be the only other season I give this treatment will be an exception to this.

For me keep the aspect ratio, and just trim down the epilogue and remove mentions of Bruce’s dreams.

Ah, finally a fellow 4:3 defender! These changes would definitely be my top priorities and for a conservative fanedit (that would please even hardcore fans) those would probably suffice.

Throw me into this camp, too. In most cases I’d prefer my bars on the top, but it worked for JL and BVS. It feels as though the films were meant to be shown that way, and the picture looks more exciting and fixes Snyders problem of shooting so close in many cases. I thought the JL we got in full-screen looked awful, and the aspect ratio was part of the visual improvement

Yeah it’s so obvious now knowing that they cropped in on the image for that film.

Two other things I’d like to change

-Do we even need Arthur meeting Bruce and turning him down? You could just follow him around on his own for a bit, rescuing fishermen and drinking, and then link up Steppenwolf’s attack on Atlantis straight after, similar to how it’s stitched together in the Whedon cut, and then have Arthur follow their trail to Gotham and he meets up with the League that way.

-Don’t have Clark battle the League. I don’t particularly care for that action beat, once he spots his memorial and stares back at the League, just have Lois already there and cut to Lois and Clark touching down on the farm.

Yeah I can see the Supes fights the League scene being cut.

I had also thought about splitting the film into two parts. Part one being around 2 hours and 12 minutes with the ending be the rescue mission and realizing they can bring back Superman and part two is everything else.

Ok so after going through the entire first season and taking notes, the running time for the edit so far is sadly not the four hours I set out to make, but instead around 5 hours and 22 minutes when compared to the around 6 hours and 17 minutes uncut. But I think I’ll continue on with the edit even if it ends up clocking in at five hours instead of four.
