I’ve been watching season 4. While I like it, there are way too many storylines happening at the same time. Just when I am getting interested in one story, it shifts to another and loses steam for me.

Exactly my thoughts. I found it hard at times to get invested into each storyline with these many shifts. On a possitive note, I think this time it was much easier to choose which parts to cut for my edit.

With the length of the episodes, I wonder if it might be good to split them into four different movies [I haven’t finished the first half of the season yet to determine the best order]:

  1. Hopper/Joyce [Russia]
  2. Eleven/Mike/Will [California]
  3. Dustin/Lucas/Vecna [Hawkins]
  4. Final Film [I assume the three stories come together at some point]

The only concern is if each story has a good spot that can work as a conclusion.

Actually I had the same idea while watching the episodes. And while making four movies out of this season is possible, I think they are too many. And I have to include the original gang in the same film, even though they are split into different locations.
One thing I am certain about by now is that the Hopper/Joyce storyline will be a separate film. To be honest I did not enjoy it as much as the rest, but I believe that it will be essential for the finale.
For the time being these are my plans for Season 4:

  1. Stranger Things 4: Part 1
Which will follow the main events on Hawkins and California from Volume 1.
  2. Stranger Things 4: Jim’s Story (I am still in search for a subtitle for this one)
Which will follow Hopper, Joyce and Murray.
  3. Stranger Things 4: Part 2
Which will include the final two episodes and maybe parts of Volume 1.

As I’ve stated before, I don’t mind long movies if the story is compelling, but I don’t want to exceed the 3hours limit by far. I guess when Volume 2 arrives everything will become clearer.

Also, what is the markup for spoilers on here? I can’t seem to figure it out.

Just click Quote on a post with a spoiler tab and then copy the text. That’s how I do it, I don’t know if there is an easier way.

Good luck with that!

SPOILERS
Personally I would suggest just splitting season 4 into two parts, it seems to be all the rage again anyways. What with Mission Impossible doing it, SpiderVerse at one point doing it, and personally I would rather see that than compilation films no offense. Good luck with This ambitious project either way tho. 😃

“The End of Amphibia”: A tv to film edit of the Disney Channel series finale (V1/Rough cut now available through my DMs)
Time

The beloved Disney Channel series “Amphibia” has drawn to a close but not the fandom who will keep it alive. Which includes me, as I made the first version of my tv to film edit that combines the last three episodes into a single 90 minute film. I hope to make a second version someday once I can obtain HD copies of the episodes. For now I have this rough version that I hope you enjoy and that I’m open for suggestions and criticisms for.

Changes:
Not too many to say, it’s the three last episodes stitched together with the Disney logo included at the beginning, end, and a message from the crew that was released online added in after the credits. Something to note that out of it finding it difficult to properly stitch together the episodes in a way that would flow right, the credits for each episode have remained in tact (the series end credits included). More changes though might happen as this edit continues to be worked on.

MakeMKV is quite a popular piece of software for doing that - along with some useful tutorials online; both video and forum discussions.

Handbrake is a decent alternative too - easy to use - though apparently it does not rip commercial blu rays.

If I was to use that what would be the best method in converting the MKV into MP4?

Thanks!

"And yes I did see a version of the trailer with the 2.35 ratio "

Didn’t ask about seeing a trailer.

Here’s my sample from Grindhoused edit:
https://vimeo.com/564580095

I went ahead and watched it and honestly is still doesn’t work for me. It feels way too zoomed in. Maybe it’s cause I’ve seen the 4:3 version but just not digging this look. And I’ll be honest ever since reading what Snyder said it has made me feel like comic book films should use a more vertical frame more often like 1.85 to really highlight the power of these heros similar to that of a splash panel in a comic book.

it is possible to change your philosophy after some time.

If Zack really did change his philosophy, he did it after he filmed 90+% of the Justice League, because the majority of his footage was clearly shot with the intent to letterbox it, probably to a theatrical 2.39 (same as BvS). The brand new VFX shots were, however, made with the intent for open matte. So his change in philosophy probably had more to do with getting this release out the door quickly than suddenly deciding that 4:3 open matte is the wave of the future. The fact that they put Batman’s voice SFX onto Aquaman by accident shows this was kind of a rush job.

Oh yeah the film wasn’t meant to have a non Imax release in 4:3. Snyder has said he wanted the film in 1.85 for all other releases but since he wanted to give his fans the full Snyder Cut experience he went ahead and included the 4:3 for the HBO Max release. The 4:3 is less of a “rush job” and more just him trying to please his fans. Whether it was worth it is up to debate. For me I think he should’ve made it an Imax only thing and made the other releases 1.66 or 1.85.

The 2.35 for me feels too cropped .

Out of curiosity - have you watched ZSJL in that format? I mean re-framed shot by shot.

I watch it either the way director intended (4:3), or the way I like (2.35:1 or something close to it - which looks pretty good, maybe except couple of shots here and there). All three ZSJL edits I made are 2.31:1.
I’ve reframed also first Avengers - in that kind of movies there’s no place for 1.78:1.

Couldn’t care less for Snyder’s philosophy which he made up suddenly after doing Watchmen, MoS and BvS in 2.35:1.

it is possible to change your philosophy after some time. I’m sure if he had this mindset back then he would’ve had a more vertical frame. And yes I did see a version of the trailer with the 2.35 ratio and honestly it just didn’t work for me. Like I said it just felt too cropped in. 1.66 is still my personal choice.

Frankly, I find the 1.78:1 ZSJL edits the least interesting visually, so I basically skip them. They remind me of that “fill the entire screen philosophy”.

If not 4:3 (which looks fine here), then 2.35:1 for the theatrical feel, but I could give 1.66:1 a try.

The 2.35 for me feels too cropped in and goes against Snyder’s philosophy that I agree with that we often look at heros vertically rather than horizontally.

Question regarding cutting down ZSJL-
What would be the most effective way to shorten Cyborg’s backstory?

I’d definitely cut down the weird vision sequence where his dad voice-overs his powers in excruciating-yet-vague detail. Don’t need to see the dumb bear and bull fighting as a metaphor, for example. Also don’t think we need “the challenge will be not doing these things” because that lesson never once matters in the movie and is eerily reminiscent of Pa Kent’s infamously horrible teachings in Man of Steel.

Has anyone done an edit for... Seinfeld (the movie edit)?
Time

What I’ve decided to do instead is cut together the “Kramer in LA” arc into a 69 minute long film. This is because of what the creators said about wanting that arc to be more “cinematic”, and like you could edit the three together into a single film. So that’s what I’m gonna do.
Gonna probably call it, “Seinfeld: The Movie”.

Tho an alt idea I had was to have it start with Cyborg’s backstory. Since MOS started with Clark’s origins and BVS for Bruce and since ZSJL is more or less Cyborg’s story, I thought it could make for a good consistent theme to start with Cyborg’s origins, cutting to black as his dad cries over his comatose body.
