Info: Fans and Heroes... An Appreciation Thread of the OOT Preservationists on here
Time

I could not find a thread for this, though I can say i honestly didn’t look too hard, so I thought I would throw one out there…

THANK YOU! I know that I am not the only one out there that wants to express my gratitude to those who have sacrificed so much time, money and effort to not only preserving this classic saga, but sharing it so unselfishly. There are so many to list, but you know who you are. You guys really make a difference in this realm that means so much to so many people! Just having such an awesome group of talent with all of their projects out there really makes Star Wars exciting all over again! THANK YOU!

standing ovation

As Klingon_Jedi said, the parchment look is very striking - nice work m8

Alright oojason, I'll stop making covers. I don't want to be responsible for any sort of crisis.... unless Epson is willing to sponsor me!!!

Thanks guys!

Nice Rik, and Papa!

I did some more toying around with these today. What cha' thinks?

Looks nice, but I personally would prefer some text on the back

Luckily you are very talented!

I dunno... I have spent so much time going back and forth with text and pictures that I tend to just prefer the backs more simplistic. It is like one part laziness, and seven parts never being satisfied with no matter what I come up with. *shrugs*

I dunno why, but the white vader looks a bit goofy to me. Otherwise, I really like them a lot.

I get your point, Laserman, and thanks! Honestly, I just kind of threw them together to see the kind of reactions I would get with the "feel" of the covers and haven't really had too much time to get them just right. The way you have it set up looks much better, and will definitely have the final product be along those lines. In fact, the same effect in Vader for ANH bothered me more than the one for ROTJ... so they will all be changed up a little. Thanks for the input!

If anyone else has suggestions like Laserman's, I am all ears. I may or may not utilize it, but it is always good to hear others thoughts. Thanks!

Coov, Wow! Those are simply gorgeous A real work of art! I bow in shame at what i am about to show...

To the the rest of you crazy bunch, tell me what you think: Shoud i continue doing this series or stop right there and stop degrading the greatness that is SW? (does it shows that I lack a little confidence in my self?)

Here it goes:

As always be BRUTALLY honest...

Thanks Papa! Some really cool things going for you in that cover. The Death Star'esque background is a great idea, looks real nice! Using Vader's perspective for the description is pretty sweet idea as well. The font for that probably should not be any bigger than 12 pt... 10 pt even. The SW logo is pretty overwhelming as well, front and side. The front one may be OK, but is just looks a bit gaudy because it overwhelms the Vader in the background of the art. If you got a really nice Vader head-shot with great contrasts, it may work as is. Last thing, Palpy is pretty lost behind the text... I don't know if he is needed anyway.

Confidence will be built with practice and constructive criticism. Most of the better artists appreciate criticism as a means to grow, rather than the "rock star" mentality of... "it is my art i can do what I want." Especially in here.... we are trying to share our art to please others, and showcase what is very important to us. What others think is very important. We won't please everyone, but we can please who we can.... plus it is wicked fun!

Thanks, Simon.
I just kind of threw them together. Depending on the feedback I get, I may tweak them quite a bit more. One thing that makes them so appealing to me is the use of the crisp fonts in contrast to such a rustic background, I may change my mind. The colors turned out interesting.... It has been too much of a Monday to take myself too seriously today! LOL!

I am still a beginner at Image manipulation and welcome you input very much!
I'm sorry, but I do not fully grasp what you mean with "duo-tone" (being French-Canadian and all )... Is it something like sepia toning just so the composition as a little more colours? Or is it something else entirely?

What I am going for with the Logo is definitely a steel look but I admit that Kpt4000 goes a little overboard with the details! I will look for a texture that suits me better...

Finaly as a user of PSP9 I do not master the fine art of colour gradation Any tips are welcome!

*drags toe in the sand* Well, AWWW... Shucks!

Yeah, I guess you can call it sepia toning as a comparison, although duo-tones as just simply 2 colors used to create the image and its colors. I am not familiar with PSP9. I use Photoshop CS. The best way to learn is to just dive in and try new things. It is not like you are using oils.... save your work.

This is the prototype cover for ANH that i am creating for an ongoing project of mine...
Tell me what you think, what works, what does'nt, if it's ugly as a mule's butt...

A high res version on the art on the cover would be much appreciated!

It is different, that's for sure. I like the composition of the art and the layout, but the transition of the black to the sketch is odd. I would have a smoother transition, and duo-tone the sketch part to something antique looking. The effects on the logo may be a bit much as well.... but not bad.

Yeah, Kev, it is pretty good. I just wish that didn't use that filter on the front.

What filter? and welcome to the boards.

It's easier to see if you download it. It's all filtered so it looks like an oil painting. You can notice it if you look closely at the preview picture there.

Yeah, that.

Thanks for the welcome!
