SW TV Confirmed

I don't know how I feel about a Star Wars show. As much as I'd like to see the saga continue in live action, specifically the continuing adventures of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, how would it reconcile with the EU? I mean, they can't just ignore it, but if they don't, people will be totally overwhlemed with new characters (Mara Jade, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo, etc.) and plot developments (Coruscant, the Jedi Academy, etc.). And if the series is set between RotS and ANH, will movie characters appear? I doubt Ewan McGregor would commit himself to such a show, and who knows about the rest of the cast. And what would it be about? Hunting down the remaining Jedi? Early Rebel attacks on the Empire? Luke growing up? The best bet it seems would be a KotOR-era show, but who would care about the characters?

Comic book movies - who says yes and who says no?
Time
As big of a Superman fan I am, I don't like how Bryan Singer basically walked away from the X-Men franchise to do the new Superman film which has been in limbo for almost a decade. Director changes never bode well for franchises, particularly superhero ones.

As for Spider-Man, I agree that another Spidey vs. Goblin would just be repetitive. Not to mention if and when Harry becomes a Goblin the costume must undergo some SERIOUS changes, as the first suit was RIDICULOUS. Raimi recently said he might be up for a 4th film after all, so maybe that's when the Peter/Harry thing will be resolved, with Spider-Man facing off against a couple of lesser villians (the Lizard and Sandman?) in 3.

I always prefered Mike and the 2nd crew of robots to Joel and the originals. I guess it's because I was introduec to MST3K via the movie.

I really wish they could come back and have a crack at modern movies. Imagine the hilarity with films like Anaconda, Godzilla, and Independence Day (not to mention TPM and AotC), but I suppose copyrights would prevent stuff like that. But they did get to do those summer blockbuster review specials, which was some of the best stuff they ever did.

I think it's well worth the $ to keep something like that. Of course, keeping it intact over a long period of time is a real, well, you know.

I got that! Haha.

RotJ used to be my favorite, but that list, really opened my eyes to the MANY failing of Episode 6. So it either ruined my Star Wars experience or made me a wiser, more knowledgeable fan. Ignorance is indeed bliss, but I prefer to be in-the-know, regardless of the consequences.

Video Editing: Where Do I Start?
Time
I'm sure this has been asked somewhere before, but I'm very interested in getting into video editing. Could anyone give me a general outline of the technology (software/hardware) needed to make something along the lines of MagnoliaFan's stuff, music videos, trailers, and the like? I have literally NO idea where to start, and would be very greatful for any product info you'd be willing to give me. And if there IS somewhere this has been previously addressed, please direct me to that location. Thanks.

I Love George Lucas

That's a great idea. I'd say go with the Prequel style titles, for continuity and accuracy, as Episode 4 is NOT called "Star Wars".

And if you're able, could you consider changing Luke's saber from blue to green on the RotJ poster? What about removing the blaster at his side? Those two things have always really annoyed me.

Qui-Gon Jinn... sounds like the name of a beer
Time
I'd been thinking about doing a thread on this, so great minds must think alike, VS.

Let me say first and formost Qui-Gon Jinn is my favorite character. Now let me explain why his character is one of the biggest flaws in the prequel trilogy.

The way I understand the story development of TPM, originally there was only Obi-Wan. This is the best scenario. At some point Lucas decided he wanted Obi-Wan to have a partner of sorts, so he created Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon evolved into Obi-Wan's apprentice, who would die at the end of the film clearing the way for Anakin. This is a rather lame and predictable course of events, so eventually Lucas decided to switch the master and apprentice.

-A quick side note, do you think people watching Star Wars in order with no knowledge of the original trilogy would mark Obi-Wan for death in TPM? Qui-Gon is the main character, Anakin looks to become an important player in future events, Qui-Gon wants to train him, but Obi-Wan being his apprentice forbids this. I think it will be an interesting turn on our thoughts, as we know Qui-Gon must die to make way for Obi-Wan, but those watching the saga chronologically will assume Obi-Wan will die to make way for Anakin.-

Back to the matter at hand, as VS pointed out, Qui-Gon IS a HUGE continuity error. But looking at the origins of his character he could have been nothing else. He essentially replaces Obi-Wan's assumed role in the beginnings of the saga, and really messes things up in the original trilogy. Now Obi-Wan was not the Jedi who discovered Anakin was a great pilot and was amazed how strongly the force was with him, or was willing to take it upon himself to train him as a Jedi, it was Qui-Gon. The bond we all felt develop between Anakin and Qui-Gon really should have developed between him and Obi-Wan. Without it, we are left with a bitter apprentice who had hoped for a better master endlessly bickering with his bitter master who only trained the boy because it was his dying master's last request. You thought Obi-Wan was a liar in ANH, he's an even BIGGER liar in RotJ. No certain points of view can explain THESE inconsistencies.

This also ties into Obi-Wan's age. Lucas has said time and again the ANH lightsaber duel is so dull and slow because Vader is a half-machine cripple and Obi-Wan is an old man. Alright, fair enough about Vader, but Obi-Wan an old man? He's 25 in TPM, 35 in AotC, 38 in RotS, which makes him...56 in ANH. Wow. "Surely he must be dead by now," Tarkin said of Obi-Wan. HE'S LESS THAN SIXTY YEARS OLD!!! Not to mention Qui-Gon was in his prime as a Jedi at 50. Once again, Qui-Gon's existence hurts the saga.

To me at least, it is quite obvious that Obi-Wan should have been around 40 in TPM, and discovered an 18 year old Anakin Skywalker, the best starpilot in the galaxy. Amazed with how strongly the force was with him, Obi-Wan would take it upon himself to train him as a Jedi. Anakin would grow into a cunnning warrior, a powerful Jedi, and most importantly, a good friend. This would make his fall to the darkside and fallout with Obi-Wan all the more tragic. Why Lucas felt the need to do things the way he did is beyond me.
