Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

well, if characters were to survive after an explosion and getting sucked to space, space battles would have no tension at all. not when force users are the pilots at least.

i do recall a clone wars episode where plo koon and three clones survive outisde for a very short period of time - and they explicitly say that plo koon survives because of the mask he uses and that the clones survive because of their armor.

and the kanan example shared above lasts for basically 5-10 seconds, and you can clearly see that he was almost, well, freezing to death already. i was under the impression leia was floating in space for a couple of minutes at least.

love the new colors ady! i thought you were going to make r2’s panels blue? great work anyway.

He said no FX work yet, just color correction. That sort of isolated-area color replacement falls more under FX work.

oh, okay. that ocurred to me but i thought it was worth asking anyway, because i couldn’t be sure. thanks!

The Da Vinci Code: wow i loved this. the story was really interesting, and the plot twists were all pretty effective to me. tom hanks, sir ian mckellen and paul bettany are great on this.

overall i tend to really enjoy mystery/suspense movies, and i also tend to really enjoy reading or watching stuff about conspiracy theories, so this was a piece of cake to me.

really really enjoyable experience, i should’ve watched this a long time ago.

10/10

Fun fact: I threw the word ‘fallen’ into Google translate and tried a few languages to see if anything sounded nice. I landed on the Spanish word ‘caído’.

Are we all aware of what Dooku means in Portugese?

Nothing important

wrong.

dooku in portuguese is actually translated as “dookan”, because if it was kept “dooku”, it’d be pronounced doo-ku, which in portugueses sounds a lot like do-cu, which is “from the ass”.

man, staring at someone and looking at the direction someone’s in is very clearly and very noticeably different.

How would you quantify that legally?

what’s this supposed to mean?

not sure if this will add to the discussion, but i take the bus every day and, every single day, my mind goes away at some point. my mind just trips away and i’m left looking at a direction, not paying attention to anytng or anyone i’m looking at. it’s like i’m looking at something or someone, but not seeing them. sometimes it happens that some people are in the very same direction i was looking at when my mind tripped away. what i do is i then look at them in the face and smile and look away, to sort of tell them that i wasn’t really staring at them, i was just thinking about someting completely different and unfortunately theirs ended up being the direction that i was looking at the moment before tripping away.

and i always feel uncomfortably bad afterwards, even though the person always realizes i wasn’t really looking at them so the situation itself isn’t uncomfortable. it’s pretty hard to avoid it though, since it usually happens when i’m tired, and i’m always tired.

but i can’t imagine what it must be like to have a stranger staring at you for 5 direct seconds on purpose. creepy as hell.

i feel bad if i stare at someone for more than 3ish second, if i don’t have a more intimate relationship to the person. it is pretty creepy for the person on the receiving side.

to stare at someone you’re not intimate with (not necessarily someone you’re in a relationship with, friends and family members too) for more than 3 seconds is at least weird.

take one’s secretary for example. theoretically the professional relationship is the biggest part of the someone’s relationship with their secretary, which is definitely not intimate enough for one to stare at that person for 5 seconds. and the secretary is theoretically the coworker one’s the closest with, so this definitely applies to the rest of one’s coworkers.

but the quintessential example is someone staring at someone in the bus/train/whatever. pretty weird.
