Sorry for necro, but given this is the most recent/relevant thread, I thought I would ask here: Does anyone know what happened to @Dark_Jedi? His last post here was 2019, and last seen on MySpleen around that time, too.
I usually listen to soundtracks while I work. Right now I’m listening to the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack.
Reel 6 is remarkably clean and complete, so it’s going much more quickly than I had anticipated, based on the other reels.
When I’ve had enough I walk away. On the days where I don’t feel like working on it at all I just don’t. Luckily it’s not my day job so I don’t have that “get it done or you’ll lose your job” pressure. There are also plenty of other things to work on, for example the 16mm SPFX doc, or 4K77 2.0, or even just other aspects of 4K80, such as sourcing the missing frames: Inserts from other prints must be color matched and cleaned and aligned, all of which takes time, but also provides a change, however small that helps keeps things moving but also breaks the monotony.
For anyone who has never worked on a film or animation, frame by frame, working for hours at a time it’s probably difficult to imagine how long it all takes, and how disappointing it can be to count up your frames for the day, whether it’s a dozen or 300 or 1000, and converting that into real time, only to realize that your “wahoo!” moment of “1000 frames!” equates to just 41 seconds of a 2 hour movie. It also means that you end up spending weeks and weeks looking at the stark whiteness of Hoth, or the dunes of Tatooine, or the forests of Endor. That moment when the action shifts to another set can be so refreshing that you can keep going for another hour!
The progress wheels help me a lot. Not only do they keep you informed of my (slow) progress, but it’s psychologically helpful to me - like crossing things to do from a list. It helps me see that there is an end, and every time I can move the wheels I can see I’m getting closer to it. 1% of a reel is about 12 seconds of film or 288 frames, so if I clean less than that in a session, I can’t move the wheels. I like moving the wheels, even by only 1%, so that gives me a goal to hit every time.
Very insightful, thanks for sharing. Helps someone unversed in this realm like myself get a bit of perspective on what’s involved, both the complexity and monotony it appears that it is.
Would you accept volunteers for helping out in some way? Obviously we wouldn’t be able to do skilled tasks that’s probably taken you years/decades to acquire, but perhaps there are some “ground level” tasks to prep frames to a baseline that could be diverted to the lowly peasantry, myself included in that category.

Oh, it’s not finished yet? Dre posted his LUT v2 a page back, I thought that meant it was already completed.
I wonder, could Williarob potentially make a v1.5 using Dr Dre’s LUTs the same way he did with Sanjuro for v1.4?

The shots where Kirk and Khan are "skydiving" to the other ship in space -- those should be in IMAX. When the movie cuts back to the ships' interiors, these are non-IMAX.
I can't post a screenshot at the moment, but the way to compare whether you're seeing it in IMAX vs. everything being cropped --
When Kirk gets his helmet glass cracked, the camera switches to first-person view inside his helmet. On IMAX, at the top of the frame, you should be able to see the black visor "lip" of his helmet swooping down into the frame across the entire screen -- about an inch above "OFF COURSE". In non-IMAX, we can't see any lip at all -- only glass.

I read through the thread again but I wasn't entirely sure if these are still needed to complete the collection - I own the SmartGlass version of Into Darkness and I was able to capture the deleted scenes with Bandicam. If they're needed, I can redo the capture (I did it with the free version of the program so the Bandicam watermark is ever-present) and throw the files at whoever needs them; just let me know.
That would be brilliant -- Please! I'm halfway through the process of acquiring the Best Buy goodies, so this would put us close to the mark!

Is the attitude really necessary? Not everyone is able to spend the time reading through every single page of any/every forum thread on the internet before posting. I'd wager there's probably a thread or two on the interwebs that you haven't read from start-to-finish before posting in. And it doesn't help that the forum is void of search-function and user's-posts abilities.
You could've spent half the time and words reiterating what your answer was, and it would've also had the "bonus" of being a more recent reminder for any newcomers to the thread.
And for what it's worth, Oso has done more for this thread at this point than pretty much anyone else, myself included. I'm not saying that to rag on anyone, of course, I'm just saying -- the guy just put up an entire disc of the thread's puzzle for one and all -- the least you could do is give him a post-# or link to what you said if you're unwilling to reiterate the gist it.

Anyone have experience ripping from CinemaNow? I found someone who's willing to help with the Best Buy content. I've found a couple how-to's, but wondering if anyone has more experience.

Thanks for the offer, but I think you misunderstood. I have already ripped the Target exclusive special features from the disc and put them on MySpleen. I didn't convert them to mkv though, but left the m2ts files as they were.
What we need now is the Best Buy Bonus Disc ... if there is any. The Best Buy content seemed to be available through streaming only, and some say that they have been on a DVD ... but is there a BluRay as well?

If you're unfamiliar with the process, I can offer some guidance regarding the workflow (and also how to get it up to MySpleen). It's not too difficult.
IMO, MakeMKV would be best/easiest for getting the extras from bluray->computer. Not only will it quickly and easily put each "extra" into an individual .MKV file, but it'll do so without re-encoding any video, giving lossless individual .MKV's, ripe for the MySpleen'ing :-)

It's a tremendous hassle. There are a lot of missing frames in the commentary. Additionally, some of the BTS windows obscure footage that can't be comp'ed out with the 1080p version of the film.
I've got a rough version done (I don't think the surround sound is in there), but it's cut together from front to back. It's just impossible to be incomplete unless there were some serious effects genius around these parts.

Once that happens, I'll throw the other extras on there and upload the whole thing. Deal? Nothing will be re-encoded.

I second this exactly. I prefer quality over quantity, and don't mind extra discs (or even extra files).
Side note -- I still don't understand why a collective "bin" hasn't been put together where all the pieces can be thrown together from the various discs/collections/users. I offered the handful of HD stuff that I had to Billy for his disc, but I've been surprised that there hasn't been anyone else who's offered access to their edition's extras.
If we made a public DropBox or Mega folder, surely we could fairly quickly and easily get a centralized collection of the extras all in one place, no?
