@Cobra Kai: The brightening of the skintones was done on purpose but I'll have to go through it and apply it more selectively.

Are you brightening even more than was in the WP?  I thought the skin-tones looked great in that scene initially.  I'm just worried that it will get too bright, and the skin-tones will look unnatural as they do now.

Well, yeah. I'm not quite sure this aspect is correct in the GOUT either. I'm hoping to soon get some reliable references for every sequence, so I'm gonna go through the colours from the beginning and adjust them again. Nothing's final.

OK, thanks.  It just really jumped out at me last night, as I noticed mid-tones and shadows looked to bright and made the faces look weird in that particular setting.

BTW - I'm a little confused as to how you accomplished that shot of the Imperial officer getting shot, but it looks awesome!  What is your source?

Harmy, I just watched your new training scene test with the adjusted lightsaber hue and something seemed "off" to me in regard to the mid tone levels and skin-tones. i compared it to the WP and indeed there is a significant difference in the overall color/brightness.  As you can see below, Han's skin-tone looks fine in the WP, but looks rather pale and washed out in the training scene.

To get a better idea of the difference, here is a rollover comparison: http://cobrakai.byethost22.com/

30:54 - The sky around Ben's hut looks pixelated (especially on the right side), as if it was brightened too much.

I see what you mean, I wouldn't say it's pixelated, it seems to be a similar issue to what I get when upping the saturation, this time it was caused by improper use of the "change colour" effect. Thank you for noticing, I'll definitely fix it.

Mike, would you please take a look at my new clip and tell me if the saber colour is at least close to the way it looks on the IB prints?

Now that you say that, I believe I recall seeing this same thing in the carbon freezing room in ESB DeEd 1.0. But that's for another discussion, I guess. :)

Looks great!  It baffles me as to why they did not fix the obvious color issues with this shot for the 2004 release.

BTW - did you take a look at the shot of Ben's hut after ErikStormtrooper's comment yesterday about all the pixelated noise? I assume you already know about it - just checking.

Thanks.

It may also have been that the lightsaber just had a different color than what I was expecting when I first watched the scene.  the 1st shot is definitely more cyan than what i thought it would be.  I still remember it as being completely blown out in the vhs tapes i watched growing up, and was expecting it to look "more blue".

but i dont know anymore, after looking at colors for a while I kind of get "colorblind".

Hahaha! Could you imagine if Harmy or one of the other restorers actually did this? :D

Yeah I  think he should!  I wonder what he charges by the hour...

I never said they didn't have a different hue, they definitely do.

sorry, my bad.  i just dont understand why they would have different hues in the first place?  In the boosted GOUT, the colors between the two shots definitely have different hues as well, but I would like to know if they looked that way originally.

@Stinky: You always seem to see colours totally differently from me, I don't think the sabre's green at all in that shot, just a lighter blue that in the other, which according to the reference I've seen is correct.

Harmy, I'm seeing it exactly like Stinky.

They definitely have a slightly different hue.  I just played around with them in photoshop and boosted the saturation.  The first is more of an aqua tint with the second being more of a truer, deep blue.  I dont know how they originally looked as i was only 4 months old when i saw it in the theater, but I would expect them to have the same hue, with variations being only in the brightness levels of the blue

BTW - I'm working on a 27" imac that I have set up for print & web design.

Mverta would be able to tell us for sure, but if the photos taken from the Senator Theater can be trusted at all in terms of color/hue, then yes - Lukes's saber was definitely blue, and very close to the second shot there.

But those are the only technicolor lightsaber shots I've seen, and have no way to know how accurate the colors are in the photos themselves.

ESF- these are wonderful, thanks!  However, I can't get the file to open on my iMac.  I'm running OSX 10.6.8.  The .rar file tries to open automatically in iPhoto and doesn't recognize the format.  Are the individual jpegs available?

download stuffit expander if you dont have it already.  then you'll probably have to set stuffit as the default program for .rar files or you can simply right click on file and select the program manually.

@Laserschwert. Thanks that vibrance effect sounds perfect. I have Premiere CS4 but don't remember ever seeing this effect there. I'll have to take a look.

EDIT: Nope, couldn't find it. And the Premiere CS4 help gave me no  result. And it seems to be a part of CS5, which won't work on my 32bit system... :-/

@Jaitea: Thank you, that is very helpful!

As to the 1st sunset shot, the one in the WP is long out of date, I have since reworked it completely:

Yeah I believe vibrance was introduced in photoshop CS4, but not in premiere & after effects until CS5.  There are a few color correction plugins that will do the same thing, but they may be relatively expensive.

*Edit: Harmy, this may not even be an option because I've never used Premiere, but the new Premiere Elements 10 has vibrance controls and still runs on 32 bit systems.

Ok, These are the covers and the disk art. The case will be released at a different time. I deeply apologize, but that bitch of a case was what caused it. Sadly, I made the mistake of making it's spine based off of the length of the cover art, and not of the cases spine. I will have to deconstruct it all and hit it fresh.

I feel as bad as a restaurant that leaves the rest of the tables food under a heat lamp, because a member of the party's steak isn't cooked yet.

These are for you the patient person. I hope you enjoy them. If there is any problem with them or the link below, tell me. I sure as hell ain't gonna delete the source files.

{I notice I left the template on the disk art, I will remove them ASAP, and re-upload as a separate file}

New previews will be made for those who want to see the front and back.

Thanks!

Btw- what font is that on the back of the covers?

Well I just watch the WP. Very happy with what I saw. I wasn't being a color police.  just seeing how all the scenes looked.

Harmy,  I think you got a home run.

I think most everybody here would agree Harmy is doing a great job.  I think it looks awesome so far.  the blu-ray is obviously a less than ideal source, so I almost feel bad bringing up color concerns like this. This scene just seemed "off" to me as it looks semi sepia-tone, so I decided to point it out.

Harmy, I know you're sick of the whole color correction debate, but some of the tatooine scenes just don't look warm enough to me.  And yes, I know you're dealing with the awful color timing of the blu-rays, so I'm not even sure if something close to the original can even be achieved.  This particular scene really jumped out at me as it looks a little too sepia-toned .    Below is a shot of the GOUT, DeEd V2, and the 70mm scan. (i dont have access to DeEd V1 right now)

GOUT

DeEd V2:

70mm scan: I doubt the colors are accurate in this scan, so I don't know if anything can be learned from it. Maybe mverta can comment on this. I just read about his latest screening, and he remarked that the movie is "a lot warmer than you think."
