"The War of the Stars" - sounds like a new celebrity reality show.. ;)
:)
yes, someone already told me that.
It's the exact translation of the french title "la guerre des étoiles".
Although in french the meaning his more like "the war from the stars" rather than stars actualy fighting (!)
"The War from the Stars" sounds even worse than "The War of the Stars" in spite of the latter's ambiguity. Regardless, "The War of the Stars"does fit a grindhouse edit quite nicely, precisely because it could be a celebrity reality show: it shows the edit is not meant to be taken too seriously.
"War Among the Stars" might serve better as a serious translation of "la guerre des étoiles". That style of title was used then: "Love Among the Ruins" (1975); Love Among Thieves (1987) etc.
"Stellar Wars", on the other hand, sounds like an unfortunate series of occurrences during the football season.
I think SW on blu-ray would definitely be a step in the right direction, SE or not. I would imagine that the blu-rays would sort out some problems that were present in the DVD SE audio, as most blu-rays feature improvments to the audio. I imagine they would be better HD sources than the HDTV broadcasts.
The new clip looks really good, Adywan. The color correction is astonishing.
I notice in the audio mix, Han still says, "get the shelter built" rather than "up". I personally prefer "built", as it's what I remember from childhood: is this here to stay? Or is the audio in this clip just temporary?

i read somewhere that ady had put together an HD ROTJ from the german broadcast but i've yet to find it anywhere. :) so far i have a crappy mkv version that is too large to fit on a DVD9 and having a heck of time preserving the HD quality while downscaling it to 8.5 gb (it was just barely over... grrr).
May I ask for a PM about where you found the other mkv? Incidentally, why shrink it? Buy a cheap HD media player such as the WD HD media player and play it on your T.V. without re-encoding. I never burn an mkv to disc, unless a friend wants a copy.
It would be a shame if Adywan's AVCHD really has to wait until after ESB:R. I am itching to see it in HD and might have to give up and find another version without color correction, if there really will be that long a wait. :-( If Adywan really did throw together a copy of the broadcast, it's (good) news to me.
Does anyone know if the colors are really bad on ROTJ? I thought they were worse on ANH and ESB.

So when it comes down to it Luke vs. Palpy can only be determined by the screenwriter. Is it a happy movie aimed more at kids, or the sequel to Empire Strikes Back?
Unfortunately, ROTJ was aimed more at children rather its more serious predecessor. That's why we had the ewoks!

Well, Luke was not there to kill the Emperor after all, he was there to meet his father. Lando and friends would have killed the Emperor in the end no matter what.
This is undoubtedly true, TMBTM. Nonetheless, in his despair when the empreor convinced him that his friends were doomed, Luke made a genuine unpremeditated attempt on the emperor's life, so the issue still merits speculation, in my view.

My opinion,I do no think Luke was strong enough to face The Emperor alone,so win in a battle he would not.
Hell if Vader was not conflicted with those emotions I really don't think Luke was strong enough to defeat him either,in my mind,I picture Darth Vader as being one very powerful hell bringer.
I half agree. :-) In my opinion too, Luke was not strong enough to confront the emperor. I thought this before the prequels, and after Palpatine gave both Yoda and Mace Windu runs for their money, I became sure that Luke could not have successfully confronted the emperor.
Vader has always seemed the more powerful Jedi to me too, but that doesn't preclude the idea of Luke beating him. In my opinion, Kenobi would have been no match for Anakin in ROTS if his rage and overconfidence had not led to him making that final fatal leap. While Vader was more experienced in ROTJ, similar factors might still have operated and allowed Luke to prevail.

You mean, "I hope Ghost is ok." One good piece of pedantry deserves another! :-)
I'll happily download them too. Might save me from having to buy a LD player with an AC3 RF out.

I got ESB a couple months ago and decided to download ANH and TPM today. My mother-in-law is getting me a Blu Ray player for Christmas and I already got a dual layer burner from her computer last week. I'm excited to have color corrected movies in 1080p (eventually)!
I wish I had a mother-in-law that would buy me presents like blu-ray players... no such luck!
I hope Ep.VI will come soon. I can wait for the other two prequel trilogy episodes for as long as is needed, but it will be something special when I can watch the whole original trilogy in HD. Adywan still seems to be predicting next year for EP.VI though.

I saw earlier in the thread that some with this player had to use the converted 23.79 (?) fps version instead of the 24 fps...thx again.
23.976 fps is what you are referring to. FYI it is only Verbatim made in Singapore that are the best quality; those made in India are sub-standard. That might be the source of your misconception about Verbatim dics.
Even Memorex SL discs aren't very good. I use TDK/Ritek instead. Buying cheap discs is more expensive in the long run, as you end up going through many discs obtain to one good copy.
PM sent about the AVCHD.

Sorry I cant go through 45 pages but can someone tell me where I can download these please? Thank you.
Search alt.binaries.starwars using binsearch.
No problem. Glad you got it working! :-)
I have just successfully burned the sample to disc using imgburn. It completed burning and verification without incident and played perfectly in my blu-ray player.
Maybe check your disc drive? I'll PM you the site where I got the link for rapidshare. If it's the same as your link, you might have a problem with your computer. :-(
You made me wish for the rest of the AVCHDs once again! :-)
That's unusual. Try redownloading it and have another go. If not, Ady will have to look at it.
Is this when you're verifying or burning? If it's when you're verifying, try it out anyway.
I've had error messages in imgburn on many occasions during verification, and the final discs have played perfectly. I've never downloaded the sample, though.

Both version 1 & 2 have the custom Dolby Digital 5.1 audio so why would you make up a shitty Vegas upmix version? just rip the audio off the discs you got from the newsgroups, these sound way better than what Vegas produces,Vegas 5.1 upmix sounds very echoey not to good at all,at least not to me.
Well, I thought your audio mix would be out of sync with the video from the other version. I know it's the same film, but different versions are not often in sync, and I wasn't sure if TVF knew how to sync it. I offered a Vegas upmix, as I thought it was the best I could do under the circumstances. (I know they're not perfect.)
Thanks for your offer of help, dark_jedi. I appreciate it, and it's nice to see you again. I'm sure TVF will manage to track down your versions, anyway. :-)

Thanks Chewtobacca, but I've never tried out an editing program before and wouldn't have the first clue how to do something like this.
If you can't get hold of dark_jedi's versions, let me know, and I'll see if I can find OCP's trilogy and upmix the soundtracks for you. I take it you could rip the video from your copies yourself and author a disc if I uploaded an AC3 5.1?
You could produce a fake 5.1 mix using Sony Vegas, TVF. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would certainly suffice, and it's dead easy to do.
Nice one, killrmonkey. Looks great!
I still prefer the original footage, but I can certainly live with this as a compromise. I hope Adywan adopts a similar approach.
PM sent.
Darth Venal said:I took it more as a dysphemism/malphemism. Funny how plain text can be read different ways.
Ah! That too. You're right: it is funny how you can read things in different ways. In either case there was no need to correct it?
About the "other", I don't believe George Lucas knew who the other was at the time. I take Kaminski's view of the development of Star Wars as being essentially the correct one.
You're right: the shot of Leia is amazing. I don't suppose this edit intends to do much in this area though.
Darth Venal said:Chewtobacca:Really don't see why people are so attached to the old emperor. Looks like what it is. A girl in half a chimp mask.
Or rather, an old woman with chimp eyes composited over hers.
I know that. It's called hyperbole.
Moth3r said:The "no links" rule was put in place for a reason.
We don't object to you posting the links some other place on the internet, and giving enough information in this thread so that people can locate them.
Any problems you're having with PMs should be reported in the bug reports forum.
No doubt, and I'll abide by it, but I don't have to like it. :-) I don't think the PMs are faulty: they're just too short for all the links. It takes 3 PMs to send them all, which is why I prefer people to PM me their e-mail address.
If you guys find the PMs I sent are cut off at the bottom, PM me your email address and I'll do it that way.
Useless PMs, useless no download links rule...
