Now I think about it, I don't think the word 'Sith' was ever used in the OT. Nor was padawan, Padme or pod race.

the term may have not been used in the OT. But in the EU, even before the Prequels, they used the word sith and emperor palpatine.

The phrase "Dark Lord of the Sith" appears in my 1978 copy of the original "Star Wars" novelisation. It's on page seven, in fact. :-)

I do not have the bandwith or the programs to create a suitable DVD for my blu-ray player. Is there any other way I could get this on DVD? Maybe I could pay shipping for a copy?

What do you mean you need to make a DVD for your blu-ray player but you do not have the programs?

Do you mean:

1. You want to burn the AVCHD of Adywan's ANH (onto a DVD-9 disc), in which case wrong thread!

2. That your blu-ray player cannot play AVCHDs, so you need to convert it to DVD? In which case, the programs you need are free, and wrong thread again.

3. That you want a copy of ANH Revisited on DVD, in which case this is the right thread and you would not "create" the DVD as such, you would just have to burn it after you downloaded it (with a great free program).

You can download from rapidshare or torrent for free. It will not take months with a torrent or even on a free rapidshare account. I have done both before with very restricted bandwidth. It might take a number of days, but you can stop and start the download without a problem. I can PM you details for either method. There is certainly a way in which you could obtain what you want.

Sorry it took me a few days. On Friday I was informed of the passing of my uncle so I left for the capital with my family for his memorial. Right before we left for the memorial (in Ottawa for over 24hrs already) I went into a respiratory attack and we called 911. I was rushed to the Hospital and they forbid me to travel so that they could run multiple x-rays. This morning they allowed me to come home, but I have to go see a specialist tomorrow morning.

Gosh! That's a run of misfortune. You have my condolences. I hope you receive good news from your doctor.

Still, I am glad to hear that you have learnt so much from working on this edit. I am really looking forward to it.

THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now

Thanks Chewtobacca (great name, I laughed).

You're welcome! Glad you like the name. No one else has laughed..

G-Force's image stabilised GOUTs for V and VI are in the pipeline, but have not been released yet. I don't know when they will be. (I'm anticipating them as much as you are.) :-)

If you can wait for G-Force to release them, wait and show the original trilogy. If you can't, show the AVCHDs.

I have Adywan's IV and V. For now I think I'm kind of just looking for a version of VI of similar quality, minus Hayden (and maybe the Jedi Rock or another thing or two).

You will have to wait for Adywan to finish his AVCHD of ROTJ, but that will happen after ESB Revisited is finished, as far as I'm aware, which will be a fair while yet. (I'm waiting eagerly too.) This is now back on topic! :-)

In a way, I'd like to just show the GOUTs... but the quality of the restored versions are so nice! It's just that they're changed in so many ways.

I would show the OUT for a first experience of Star Wars. If you must project Star Wars, it would of course be great to obtain a 1080p projector and show Adywan's AVCHDs of Episodes IV and V, which have a couple of the changes removed (see page 1 of the thread).

For episode VI, there is Ewokgroomer's DVD-9 AVCHD on alt.binaries.hdtv. (It is a downconversion of Wookie Groomer's ROTJ blu-ray, but still looks pretty good.)

Download a file called "ifoedit096" from http://www.ifoedit.com/

The link doesn't appear to be working. I have the version that was uploaded to newsgroups, but that appears to be 4:3 too. Does it have to be ifoedit096?

edited - All right, it seems to play as 16:9 after all. When you play the VOBs in VLC they appear as 4:3, but the disc itself plays as 16:9.

It looks good! I'll try to post some feedback when I have finished watching.

Khan is supposed to Indian? I never got that.

Indeed he was; a Sikh in fact. This was mentioned in Space Seed.

It is, however, common for actors to play characters from ethnic groups, as long as they have the right general appearance for the role. I have no objection to anyone of one particular ethnic group playing a member of another group.

The only issue might be your TV, but I would imagine you won't have any problems.

That's what I thought, but someone over at doom9 told me we are still in the ridiculous situation of TVs made for the European market being able to take NTSC input, but most American TVs won't take PAL. YMMV.

DE

I've been thinking about this. Does this also mean US PS3s can't play AVIs and MP4s encoded at 25 fps with PAL resolution? Or is it just a problem with DVDs?

He turned a then-serious sci-fi intellectual series into an outright contemporary comedy in VH.

Nimoy directed IV. Meyer was only one of a number of screen writers, and VH is far from a typical Meyer film.

I generally agree with you though that Meyer's take on Star Trek was a great deal different from Roddenbery's vision. While the Enterprise had always been structured in terms of hierarchy as a naval ship, the feel of the ship was markedly more militaristic in Meyer's films. Roddenberry considered human society in the future to have evolved beyond prejudice and disliked what Meyer had done with VI.

That is undoubtedly the correct order and not up for debate. I've thought about it extensively.

I entirely agree, vote_for_palpatine; although I like 3 and 4 equally, so in my ranking the position of those two is interchangeable. I also think that the director's cut of 1 is almost but not quite equal to 5.

I actually think 5 is underrated. Shatner actually did a pretty good job of directing it. It is just that the studio insisted on the insertion of much of the humor, and cut Shatner's budget more than once, so he had to change his vision for the film. Moreover, ILM were not available for the special effects.

The original film was to have been much darker and more interesting than the final result would suggest, and I quite enjoyed the novelisation of it. It is a shame the studio didn't allow Shatner to produce a director's cut like that of TMP. I also wonder if the original would have been better if Nimoy had executive produced it.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)

Monroville said:

Sorry to be off-topic, but in regards to the STAR TREK blu-rays, I can say that ST:TMP looks FANTASTIC (granted, some of the original FX need some "special edition" cleaning/fixing to get rid of matte lines and the like -not so much replacing), whereas ST2:TWOK looks a bit rough and grainy in comparison.

The director's cut of TMP had improved special effects for a number of scenes. All of the blu-rays were the theatrical versions though. If the directors' cuts are released on blu-ray format, be sure to snap up TMP! :-)

I do wish I knew where to find these banned Bonds...

It will get pretty far, but then at the end it always effs up and gives me an error message.

All I can think of it is that something might have gone wrong during extraction. The same thing happened to me once, and I ended up having to re-download the archive. I realize having to download it again isn't the most appealing prospect, but I'd recommend doing so before you waste another disc.

That's all I can suggest. Sorry I can't be more help. :-(
