Perfect choice! Congratulations, Anchorhead! :)
Karyudo said: On a vaguely-related topic, one experiment I've never tried is to use ColourLike() to give an HD target the same colour palette as the JSC.
Colourlike() rarely gave acceptable results whenever I tried it. There were attempts to make improved color-matching filters, but I don't think they came to anything, which is a shame, because they would be really useful.

It's a really beautiful matte... but unfortunately it just doesn't stand up to modern eyes. A new digital matte of that hangar bay should have been a priority for ROTJ.
That shot stands out more than anything else in the OT, as far as I'm concerned, especially when viewing it in HD. It really is painfully obvious that it's a matte/blue screen shot.
By the way, the entry about bat boy is hilarious. I'd never noticed it, the name really made me laugh, and even the picture is very funny.
Good thread! :)
This thread is certainly entertaining! We've been promised mp4s and raw avi tomorrow, so it looks set to remain so. :)

I never bought anything through Amazon, so it won't let me write reviews :-(
Really? You can't open an account and write a review without purchasing?
althor1138 said:
I did it for both.
So did I! :-) Unfortunately, most people seem not to post reviews for both sets, which is a shame.
althor1138 said:
The "original" trilogy blu-ray set still has 3 1/2 stars on Amazon. Just saying......
Yeah, most of the people posting one-star reviews are doing so for the complete saga boxset.
X0-1138 said: I'm calling the project 'Legacy'.
Good! Then you're not giving up. Try to not to suggest that the Black Magic project might have been a hoax though. Just focus on what you want to do. That's just a suggestion that might help you to get along around here. :)
^^ At least the three of us agree on something. It doesn't happen often lol.
@skyjedi I hope you do track down dark_jedi's set soon and that you and your brother enjoy them.
Best of luck to X0 1138 on his project. I hope that he doesn't give up.
dark_jedi said: OK, but that is how YOU took it, I did not, so that makes me wrong and you right? or the other way around? no it doesn't, we perceive things the way we do, and that is how I took it.
I can't say whether you are wrong or right. What I do say is that you act very defensively because of what you perceive to be a criticism.
and how many times do we see new members come in here and start talking all this crazy idea stuff with monster super duper hi tech LD players and such, and then just disappear?
We see this very often indeed and you might well be right about the outcome of this project, but we have no way of knowing this at the start. New people need encouragement. If you perceive remarks such as XO 1138's remarks about upscaling to be veiled criticism of your work, then imagine how new people feel when you start to post the way you do in their threads when they have just begun their projects and don't know anyone here.
Ultimately, I don't care whether the quality of new LD transfers will be better than anything so far released or not. People might still get something out of making them and watching them because not everyone is looking for the same thing. From the perspective of quality, the Puggo Grande could be considered a waste of time because the image quality is far worse than any GOUT-sourced project or LD project for that matter; but the fact is that I don't care, because I enjoyed Puggo's work immensely and found it thrilling to watch a 16mm transfer regardless of image quality. His Puggo Grande is one of my favorite preservations and I'm looking forward to his ESB more even than Adywan's ESB Revisited.
dark_jedi said: My aggressive response? I called NOONE any names LOL, and I still won't, but I find his reaction very funny. I find it funny how I use HIS own words on him, but then I get crap for it LMAO!
I agree that you didn't resort to name calling, and I commend you for it, but I consider "you have NO idea WTF you are talking about," and the general tone of your posts to be aggressive. I didn't use any phrases like this in my post to you.
Also some of his wording I found just a little insulting, that is why I used them, like "masterfully", what so anyone else here that has done upscales are wrong, or not right, like his supposed method is the right way, so read into my responses anyway you want.
I don't think he meant to imply that other people had upscaled improperly, simply that he was determined to do it well. That's what I meant by your perceived criticism of your projects. You just come across as very defensive sometimes.
LOL, it doesn't matter if he edits it now, why do you think I quoted it right away?
I was trying to make him see that language like that isn't productive. Of course he can't erase what he said, but I thought that editing might go along with an apology. That's all. It was just a suggestion.
^^^ This is the kind of aggressive response that doesn't help anyone.
Criticism to my projects LOL, if people that have them like them GREAT! if they don't GREAT! I make these mostly for myself and close Friends, and then I share if I want to, so you have NO idea WTF you are talking about, if you don't like them, please go post about it and don't waste your time downloading them, that would be fine by me, but please share your thoughts to let others know how you feel, maybe you can persuade them how bad they really are.
I don't think they are bad at all, so I have no desire to convince other people of anything. I simply wonder why you post denigrating remarks in other people's project threads.
NO, I don't think they are aware of the limitations of LD, or you would see that making a 1080p laserdisc cap is not going to work, but hey who knows right.
I meant limitations in the sources and actually agree that upscaling this to 1080p is a waste of time, but others have already tried to convince the OP that something like 720p would be better, unsuccessfully. I also think that it is waste of time to encode Blu-rays from the GOUT, but other people disagree, so the last thing I would wish to do is go to post in your thread and convince other people of my own preferences, which is why I wonder why you seem to feel the need to do so.
EDIT: X0-1138, that kind of language isn't necessary and is not going to help you. I support your project and understand why you might be angry, but I suggest you edit your post and apologize for the language.
dark_jedi said:
well, all I am saying is I can't wait to see a "masterfully" upscaled 1080p video sample processed through whatever colored magic you use from a laserdisc capture, Thanks.
Do you have to post this sort of remark -- often multiple times -- in almost every OT laserdisc project thread that starts up? I understand that you find it amusing that some of us are still interested in laserdiscs, but I don't see what you gain by making these comments that can only serve to discourage other people from completing their projects. Moreover, you appear to me to react strongly to any perceived criticism of your projects.
I believe that we are all aware of the limitations of laserdiscs. While they don't look brilliant on a big modern HDTV, they don't look at all bad, in my opinion, and GOUT-sourced projects -- even those that use g-force's excellent scripts -- have their own problems and don't look brilliant either, so it's simply a matter of preference.
Thanks, Fremendar. :)
I don't understand either. At first it seemed as if you were under the impression that the XO had been completed to the standard of the speeder shot and cancelled because of that, but now it seems that it's because you find the task daunting, which I can understand.
X0-1138 said: It's just AMAZING.
Are you disbanding your project because you think that the XO project was completed? A raw capture was released, but nothing like what you see in that speeder shot.
EDIT: bkev seems to have pointed this out first.

There's a possibility that I may remove 'Episode IV - A NEW HOPE' from the beginning of the crawl but I must stress, there shall be NO alterations other than the above mentioned.I don't know why the 80s crawl bothers so many people. I know it's about preservation, but every time I see it without the "New Hope", it always looks so naked to me (and both crawls are proper theatrical crawls, anyway). Different strokes, I suppose.
Yep, different strokes. The only thing that I don't like about Arnie.d's V8 is that it has "Episode IV" in the crawl, and I want it to say simply "Star Wars, so I really like this idea.
Best of luck with your project, XO-1138! I hope you achieve your intentions. Have fun. :)

I don't know how old you are, but there are some geeza's out there who having some serious conflict about buying/not buying because of the bonus discs.
I feel the same way, but I suppose I could rent/borrow the extras discs.
There's a short article on the BD release on UK yahoo.

I have some .sup files from an NTSC DVD and want to use them for a custom AVCHD I have made. Are .sup files from a DVD compatible with AVCHD or do I have convert them? (I plan to mux them in with tsmuxer and don't need to change the timing of the subtitles at all.)
EDIT: Well tsmuxer won't accept them, so I suppose .sup files are not compatible. How do I convert them?
Sluggo said: This is the first thing in this whole mess to make me smile.
Agreed! Everyone should post one star reviews in protest. I have never done this before, but I will this time.
I'd remove the link if I were you.
hairy_hen said: Might some good actually come of it?
I hope so. I watching an MKV of ANH now, and I'm actually bored. The colors are awful, the changes are annoying, and I'm sick of it. This doesn't feel like the same film. I'm not sure I'll sit through it.

You're not alone. Many people online are saying that they have cancelled their pre-orders, and this time it's not just the purists.
