You know what, I’m kind of won over to that point in the case of trans people. I don’t think orientation is a problem at all in the film industry these days and I don’t think it needs to be considered for a role. But I think trans could potentially be similar to race. The exception would be in the case of a low budget movie where perhaps the director can’t find a trans actor, but in Hollywood and big-budget things I think I get it now.

Exactly! Always happy to see people open to changing their views when presented with new information or a different perspective.

Like I said, I take everything personally so when I heard that, I immediately thought of Boys Don’t Cry and that is a very, very important movie to me for a multitude of reasons. The lead, a transgender guy, is played by Hilary Swank, a woman. And I just imagined people disregarding that role and movie as “transface” and it pissed me off.

It’s a different time. If that movie were made today and cast the same way, it might be problematic. But at the time it was very progressive, and remains an important film regardless of how it may be cast today.

It seems like there’s no doubt that Tambor has a temper and can treat people like shit on set, but the sexual harrassment allegations either could be true, or could be part of an effort to get him (a cis male) off of a show where he played a trans woman - both accusers are trans, members of the trans community were beginning to call his casting “transface,” and one of the producers(?) apparently implied as much to him on a phone call as it was all going down.

I don’t know what to believe, but so far none of the accusations have gone as far as sexual assault or anything like that. They’re bad, yes, and if they’re true he needs to answer for them, but no one from any other project has come forward with any similar allegations either.

You Only Move Twice (1996 Simpsons episode)

“You Only Move Twice” is kind of the last truly brilliant episode, unless somebody can prove me wrong.

El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer, from later in the same season, which is another contender for #1 for me.

Also The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, from the next season. (Though that one’s not in my top 5 either.)

You Only Move Twice (1996 Simpsons episode)
Time

The premise (from Wikipedia)

The second episode of The Simpsons’ eighth season. It first aired on the Fox network in the United States on November 3, 1996. The episode, based on a story idea by Greg Daniels, has three major concepts: the family moves to a new town; Homer gets a friendly, sympathetic boss; and that boss, unbeknownst to Homer, is a supervillain. Bart, Lisa, and Marge each have individual secondary storylines. It was directed by Mike B. Anderson and written by John Swartzwelder.

So this is the best episode of The Simpsons and if you disagree you’d better put forth a good candidate. I can think of two off the top of my head that I might concede to.

But seriously, this episode has it all. Albert Brooks, Homer failing upwards and not realizing it, amazingly quotable dialogue (“Ever seen a someone say goodbye to a shoe?!”), James Bond parodies, the Denver Broncos…

Truly the best.

FYI, Arrested Development season 5 is coming out on May 29!

I saw that thanks to going to Netflix and watching Ep1 of S4 last night. Loved it!

I watched S4 when it came out so it’s been awhile and I can’t compare how the new S4 feels versus the original.

I could definitely tell how it felt different and how certain things pay off way sooner, or at least differently, but it’s been too long since I’ve watched the original version to be able to do a breakdown of exactly how different it all is.

But I remember feeling like I was watching a different show both times I watched season 4, and I felt like I was watching Arrested Development when I was watching the remix.

I had a joke about peer pressure, but everyone said it wasn’t funny, so I stopped telling it.

That’s not funny.

It’s more of a comment, really.

Okay, that’s hilarious and I’m stealing it for the next time someone tries to get me to tell a joke.

You ruined it.

Yeah, I know.
