UNTILTED A NEW HOPE RESTORATION. HELP NEEDED! (* unfinished project *)
Time

Well, first off, the only “six track” mix on there is the 5.1 - the rest are all stereo and mono.

Second, there’s no 1.6 for either DNR or no DNR. There’s a 1.4 no-DNR that has a new color grade courtesy of Sanjuro, and both it and the DNR Blu-Ray ISO have a new scan of the opening crawl.

Third, MySpleen invites are closed and have been for a long time. There’s been rumblings that they’ll open up invites again but nothing official.

I mean, that’s my inclination. The alternative is that the performance is just weak and I don’t see John Williams allowing that. But if you listen to the opening hit followed by the staccato trombones (just the first few seconds) in one of prequel soundtracks compared to the sequel soundtracks, it’s as if someone took all the attack out of the brass instruments on the latter. They sound muffled almost as if the high-end was cut out. And the trombone staccati notes are barely audible.

If you listen to the two soundtracks one after the other, the difference is night and day. The first time I watched TFA on blu ray, I thought there was something wrong with my sound system.

Hell, I noticed in the theater for TFA and almost got up to complain that there was something wrong with the sound.

Was very disappointed to hear that it was the same for TLJ two years later…

Rian Johnson to Head New Star Wars Trilogy
Time

The movie was a massive critical and commercial success. They don’t give a shit about a portion of the fan base loudly complaining on the internet.

If the majority people really hated it that much, the home video sales wouldn’t have been as good as they were.

TLJ made a ton of money. That’s all that matters to the studio. It’s a business, after all.

Rian made them money and was easy to work with (notice how TLJ is the only post-Disney movie without a ton of behind the scenes drama, reshoots, and crew shakeups). Of course they’re going to give him more movies.

The beginning of Filoni’s other series began slow as well. I actually think Resistance is starting out slight better than either Rebels or The Clone Wars

As someone who loved TCW and thought Rebels was okay, I couldn’t make it through 10 minutes of the first episode of this.

So you guys are saying I should give it another shot?

With a name like Lobot, you’d think that would be a given?

I think the canon Lando comic shows him as always having been named Lobot, and the…thing on his head was a form of cybernetic enhancement, but was damaged to the point of essentially lobotomizing him…or something?

Been a while since I’ve read it, I could be mistaken.

Now I want a series predating even KOTOR about how humanoid androids rebelled and started a massive war against the “living” species, to the point where they infiltrated their enemy by creating duplicates, causig a McCarthyism-style witch hunt and ending in the banning of lifelike droids throughout the galaxy.

In other words, kind of what I wanted the Clone Wars to be, but with androids instead of clones.

In other words, sort of a mishmash of Blade Runner, The Second Renaissance, and some version of the Butlerian Jihad (but not BH/KJA’s version), set in the ancient times of the Star Wars universe.

That’s not how this works. One cannot buy or sell fan edits or restorations. Just use the guides and ask the user Solkap for help.

He wasn’t asking to buy anything, he was asking for someone to PM him a direct link since he can’t get the guides to work.

But OP, I’d say give the Ultimate Introductory Guide a go one more time, and if you’re having issues with it, post about the problems you’re experiencing in Harmy’s thread - someone will be able to help you out.

Assuming you haven’t already gotten a direct link PM. But in the absence of any real info about exactly what problems you’ve run into, you might not get any for fear that someone’s sending you a link you’ve already used unsuccessfully.

The “subverted expectations” meme is one of the most annoying things to come out of the TLJ discourse, and whenever someone drops it it’s clear they’re either arguing in bad faith or don’t know what they’re talking about.

Eh, there are some things about TLJ that were clearly designed specifically to subvert audience expectations, but it’s certainly nowhere near as prevalent in the film as the internet would lead you to believe.

I simply can’t understand a future for Star Wars where people want Rey and Kylo to actually be together in the movies after the events of TLJ. The world of Star Wars is already inside out without making it a complete chaotic mess.

The only chance that possible direction had was if Rey turned to the dark side in joining with Ben in TLJ and that ship has long since sailed and despite my grievances with TLJ I really wish they had done this as it a number of things would make a lot more sense and be something we haven’t yet seen in Star Wars.

Alas, Disney couldn’t have their new leading woman be seen as evil and Rian had to have his umpteenth subversion.

When Rey shut the Falcon’s door, she wasn’t turning him off in an act that she can’t trust him anymore, but in an act to show him that he needs to find where he truly belongs within himself before she can allow him to come to her. She’s not turning Ben away forever, but only until he begins to become and realize the person he needs to become in order for him to be with her.

Man, I really hope this isn’t where things are going in IX…

Buy Rey rejecting Kylo wasn’t a subversion at all. Having her join him would have been a subversion, since we expect the hero to reject the offer to join the villain, like Luke and basically every hero in every story ever.

But Rian = The Worst Thing That’s Ever Happened to Star Wars, so gotta make stuff up to be pissed at him for when there isn’t anything there I guess, huh?

The only way I’d be okay with a X/XI/XII and beyond is if Kylo has offspring that the next trilogy focuses on. Numbered saga films should be about the Skywalkers at this point, otherwise they should be a separate series that isn’t Episode X/XI/XII.

Of course, if Lucas hadn’t made I-VI into “The Saga of Anakin Skywalker,” I’d be fine with IX being the last we see of the Skywalker bloodline, with X-XII having nothing to do with that family. But since that’s what the movies turned into, there’s no reason not to begin a new saga that isn’t Episode X+ if they aren’t continuing the Skywalker family past Kylo.

Time

Ever since the sequels were announced, I wanted for either Episode IX to be the permanent end of the main saga, with future movies being their own thing unrelated to the Skywalkers, or for there to be a ~15-20 year gap between Episodes IX and X.

Now I definitely want IX to be the end, because unless Kylo is redeemed, there aren’t anymore Skywalkers, and having a numbered saga movie (Episode X+) with no Skywalkers seems weird to me.

But that doesn’t mean I want Star Wars movies to end, or that I want them all to be one-offs. I’m very excited about both Benioff & Weiss’ trilogy and Rian Johnson’s trilogy, because they’ll both be mini-sagas separated from the numbered episodes and free from the baggage of the Skywalkers.

As SilverWook said, I want a definitive ending to the main saga, like ROTJ was for a very long time. I’m fine with it continuing in book or comic form as the EU back in the 90s-00s did, but as a movie series, it needs to have an ending.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

OutboundFlight said:

Indeed, the marketing for Solo really fell flat. There are times I wonder if Disney was intentionally writing it off, expecting it to do decent at the box office simply because of the Star Wars brand, but really invested in Avengers or Mary Poppins.

I don’t think negative reception to TLJ had anything to do with Solo’s failure. I think the real problem was like you said, why should audiences watch Solo? The average person’s reaction was likely:

  1. Another Star Wars movie? I mean they’re fun, but wasn’t the last one like 5 months ago?

  2. Wait that’s not Harrison Ford! What’s with this?

  3. This looks generic, nothing special.

  4. No lightsabers this time, huh.

  5. Eh, it looks fine but I don’t feel like watching another movie. Just saw Avengers and Deadpool.

Nailed it.

The Last Jedi: Rekindled (Released)

The BB-8 thing for sure. I don’t have an issue with the rest (and I’d also argue for trimming more of the phone call gag, a la Hal’s Legendary version).

I also don’t like the Ackbar stuff. The voice isn’t convincing (though that could be remedied by a better voice actor doing an impression closer to his TFA/TLJ voice), and the ROTJ outfit and mask don’t match. The rotoscoping is mostly okay, but in general I fail to see how it improves anything, unless you really hate Holdo or feel it’s absolutely necessary to hammer home the “there might be a spy” point, none of which I have an issue with (I was surprised to discover that the spy thing wasn’t outright stated as I’d apparently taken it as a given).

RE Re flying the Falcon - I know it’s EU, but one of the Journey to TFA books said that there was a flight simulator lying around Jakku that she fixed up which had a ton of different ships loaded into it. She used it in her spare time, so while she’d never actually flown before, she had a LOT of experience in the simulator.

Don’t remember if YT-1300 freighters were included in the simulator or not, though.
