It’s the HDTV capture from schorman13, for reasons expressed earlier. Given the look of TAS, the deleted scenes used, and even the brief Boleyn footage, I think it’s a little better source to use. Not all-around better, but better for cohesion.

Hal, any chance of not using the Boelyn footage for an updated release and reverting to the “yeah she’s dead” ending?

Boo.

New video format proposal

It’s basically an executable file designed to resemble, in its style, a DVD or Blu-ray.

If that’s the case, this seems…completely pointless. As in, I honestly don’t understand in any way how this idea is beneficial when you can just make an MKV or MP4. It’s not like aspect ratio or resolution are an issue with those formats.

Sorry, I’m really not trying to rain on your parade, I just…don’t get it. Do you just really want to be able to make, say, a 1.5K, 1.66:1 movie with a full menu and extras without having to conform to a BR or UHD-BR standard with letterboxing and upscaling/downscaling to a set resolution for some reason?

I guess I don’t understand what it is you’re proposing. Is this a container, like MP4, MKV, or AVI? If so, why is it different or better than any of those? If it isn’t, then…what is it? Like an EDL for fan edits, so you don’t distribute any actual video files, just this “GVS” thing and link it to the same source file, like the official BD or DVD?

I’m just hoping C-3PO’s little accident with a battle droid’s body from AOTC doesn’t become a plot point in this movie.

Could… could you imagine the unique frustration I would feel taking that in on opening day?

Don’t say things like this. I couldn’t handle that, especially if the story hinges on it so much that it can’t be effectively cut out of the movie.

I am redditing the original six films and I was wondering how to download mp4 of avi versions?
Time

You don’t, because that’s against the rules. You buy the films and then use the copies you purchased.

MakeMKV is a good free tool for ripping Blu-Ray discs without reencoding/losing quality, and tsmuxer is a good tool for taking that MKV and splitting the video and audio streams into their own files so you can import them into your video editor of choice (most of which don’t like working with MKV files).

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

That was sarcasm. And usually reading the recent posts in a thread can give you some answers (this one isn’t even two months old):

If I recall correctly, Team Blu only released Star Wars 1997; it seems to be difficult to track down outside of the Spleen. I don’t think they completed ESB 1997 or ROTJ 1997.

However, Harmy made his own Star Wars 1997 called the “Respecialized Edition”. The thread for it is here:
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Respecialized-Edition-97-AVCHD-and-MKV-now-out/id/16682

To download it, follow the link for the “Ultimate Guide” in the first post of Harmy’s main thread for Star Wars here:
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-V27-MKV-IS-OUT-NOW/id/12713

As for ESB 1997, Adywan released a nice version in both MKV (14 GB) and AVCHD (8 GB) formats. Both are available on Usenet by searching for “adywan 1997” in the NZBKing search engine. If you haven’t used Usenet before, I would recommend NZBGet software along with a free account from the “free-usenet” provider. It might take you a day or two to download, but hey - it’s free!

I am not aware of any ROTJ 1997 versions out there other than Laserdisc rips.

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)
Time

It’s too wordy, though. That’s the #1 mistake people make when writing SW crawls - overdoing it.

In that vein, Nev, I think the last part of your second paragraph:

…with a weapon more deadly than the dreaded Death Star, able to destroy any star system while hidden in the depths of space.

is overly cumbersome. I’d probably remove the Death Star reference:

…with a devastating weapon able to destroy any star system while hidden in the depths of space.

I’m not enamored with “while hidden in” for some reason either, but I’m not sure what I’d replace it with.

The Last Jedi: Rekindled (Released)

I used to feel that way, but came around to the idea that his use of the same lightsaber that he rejected at the start of the film has a great deal of symbolic/thematic value.

But there is an edit that does this - ForceGhostRecon’s. Although he’s no longer present on the forum, others in the thread for his edit should be able to send you a link via PM.

John Williams’ brother, Don: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Score Will Include ‘Every Theme That You Ever Heard’ (from IGN)

(with an inference that Episode IX runs for 135 minutes…)

It has been a while since I have heard Jar Jar’s theme 😉

Actually the scores of movies in general and Star Wars specifically are shorter than the actual runtime of the film. Having seen ANH and TESB with an orchestra, one of the first things I noticed is, that there are a number of scenes in both films, that don’t have any music at all. For example the trash compactor scene doesn’t have any score. So, if the score for TROS runs 135 min, we can expect TROS to have a runtime closer to 3 hrs.

It should be pointed out that quite often scenes are scored but then the decision is made in editing that the scene works better with no music. Case in point - the lightsaber duel in ESB is almost entirely scored, but very little of the score appears in the film. So the total minutes of score written and recorded is often quite a bit higher than the amount of score actually used in the film.

Which isn’t to say that every minute of the film is scored from the get go, there’s plenty of scenes that are never scored, too. But I don’t think you can get 3 hours from 135 minutes of score. Probably closer to 2.5 hours, with maybe 110-120 minutes of the written score used in the 150 minutes of runtime.

Info: TV shows on DVD edited either due to syndicated prints or music rights
Time

Mission Hill had the majority of its music replaced on video. Thankfully there’s a very good restoration on MySpleen.

That 70s Show on streaming, DVD, and BR is a mess of music replacement and syndication edits depending on which version you have access to, but to my knowledge none of them have the original music despite frequent claims to the contrary.

The first season (at least) of Scrubs is missing a large chunk of the original music on DVD and streaming.

The new Netflix dub of Evangelion took out Fly Me to the Moon on every episode for licensing reasons (I’ve made a version of this new dub with the music restored myself).
