Interestingly, while I understand every one of those complaints, I don't have a problem with any of them.

I think it's VERY clear, by the way, that Head Baltar and Head Six were, in fact, angels, and so was Starbuck, though Starbuck was able to take physical form - much like Six as Shelley Godfrey in "Six Degrees of Separation."

One of the things many have been complaining about is that the explanation for most of the weirdness on the show is simply "It was God."  The Opera House?  Visions sent by God to influence the people who saw the visions, to guide them in the right direction without directly intervening.  "Head" characters, and resurrected Starbuck?  Angels sent by God to guide characters in a similar fashion.

I'm honestly surprised by the fact that this explanation doesn't bother me, as I'm an atheist - but I liked it quite a bit.  It felt right to me, for the show.  And it was an interesting twist on the idea of a deus ex machina ending, which is Latin for "God from the machine" - this time the deus ex machina actually IS God.

And I don't think making us descendants of these characters diminishes our achievements at all.  If they'd kept all their technology (agreed that that was a leap of faith, but a necessary one that was dealt with well) and used that to build a new civilization, THEN it would have cheapened our achievements.

Hera is "Mitochondrial Eve" - the link between Neanderthals and modern humans.  That's her major significance.

There were still Raptors on Earth - they were used to spread out the people (as you could see with Adama/Roslin).  Apparenlty 150,000 years is plenty of time for any trace of them to disappear completely.

I knew as soon as the episode ended that it would be a very polarizing finale, so I can't say that I'm surprised.  It's a lot like the Sopranos finale - many hated it, but I loved it.  Thankfully, none of the scathing reviews or complaints have swayed my opinion of the finale even a little.

...I still hated the dancing robots.

That shot is and has always been in every version of the movie, if I'm not mistaken.  Note that I haven't watched the SE or 04 SE since, well, probably 2004.

I second Ady's suggestion of Verbatim DVD+R DL media.  I've never had a Memorex DL that burned without problems, and on the flip-side of the coin I've never had a Verbatim burn with any problems.

If I were you I'd hit up Demonoid or The Pirate Bay and get it rather than wait until Tuesday!

Oh, and I dunno if it's the same for you, but here the finale ran 11 minutes longer (so 2 hrs 11 minutes with commercials, 1 hour 36 minutes without commercials), so if you do watch it on TV or if you DVR, be aware of that.

Well, there seems to be a lot of hate for the finale over at IMDb, but what else is new?

My thoughts (spoiler-free!):

- Those commercial breaks were TERRIBLY placed!!!
- The first hour is INTENSE - I can totally see why they haven't had any FX-heavy episodes in a while.  Saving all the cash for this one.
- The second hour, which seems to be the source of the most "upsetness," I thought was perfect and a great send-off to the series.  The final scenes I liked, except for the (Potential spoilers maybe?) dancing robots. (Spoilers done)
- While they didn't explain everything, I'm glad they didn't try.  They really didn't need to anyway, and while I know some people will be upset with the nature of said revelations, I was fine with it.
- All in all, I frakkin' loved it, and thought it was a fantastic end to the series.  I was wholly satisfied and didn't feel cheated at all, unlike some other series finales. *cough*X-Files!*cough*

I say it ranks with the best of Galactica's episodes - in fact, it might be #1 in my book.  I have no (significant) complaints.  Well done, Mr. Moore!  (Nice cameo, btw)

Apparently the 4.5 DVD is coming out in April or May, around the same time as the Caprica pilot.

And then we wait for "The Plan" and the "Caprica" series proper...

From people who were at the premiere earlier this week, it apparently answers a LOT of questions people didn't think would be answered given the fact that there's so little time left.

And the extra 11 minutes is nice.  Apparently there'll be an even longer cut on DVD later of the whole 3-hour epsidode (parts 1 and 2), and of one or two other Season 4.5 episodes.

And my first draft of the '90s VHS-inspired 'Star Wars' cover (Empire and Jedi forthcoming, but damn if they don't use some obscure photos for the back):

I think it still needs a Lucasfilm logo on the spine, above the THX logo, though it wasn't there on the original VHS box.  It was a catalogue number there, but this is designed for Disc 1 of the GOUT and I can't for the life of me figure out its catalogue number.

All the Beatles puns in this thread are driving me mad.

(Believe it or not, that one was entirely unintentional and I hate myself for leaving it there.)

I made an Indiana Jones set recently - it's based on the KOTCS single-disc, but I made a KOTCS one anyway because I wasn't a fan of that cover.  I still like how Raiders looks a lot, and I like the three originals better than either my KOTCS or the official one.

The covers are for the recent re-releases (the ones that sell individually), but they're easily modified for the old 4-disc box set.

- NOTE: I'm not sure about the spine image for Last Crusade.  It's from an alternative LC poster, but it looks more like it's from ToD than LC.  I was trying to keep the theme of using a different poster for the spine image than the front.

I can upload them to Rapdishare if anyone wants the full-res copies.

Anyone find it interesting that part of the show currently takes place in 1977 ... the year 'Star Wars' was released?  I just thought it was kinda funny.

And I wonder if Hoth will be referenced in the "Some Like it Hoth" episode - it'd have to be a character that's from the post-1977 timeline (maybe someone in 1977 that's from 2007 references Hoth and everyone else is confused).

I hate to say this as I've been a big supporter of this project from the start, but it seems as if it's a pipe dream now.  These same questions have been asked time and again for a very long time now, and it sadly seems like it'll never happen.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.  I think even if simply the raw captures were released in a lossless format a lot could be done with them by others, and if the cleanup work has gotten far enough along releasing what has been done there as well would also be a great asset.  Hopefully something will be released eventually, regardless of what form it's in.

And to bkev, the screener that was released was leaked somehow, it was just the TCR (timecode) copy.  I don't know if anyone ever found out who leaked it or why/how.

Out of curiosity, *is* there a language policy on the forum?  I've never gotten a warning or anything before, and I've certainly not censored myself here ... just curious.

That's weird seeing the ESB/ROTJ posters with the regular "Star Wars" logo ...

I think they could all do with pushing the titles up a little bit - as it is there's a bit too much dead space directly above them (with the exception of ROTS, which would still look fine if the title was pushed up farther anyway).

As far as the original theatrical release goes, the best source is unfortunately the GOUT unless the X0 project is ever released/finished.  It's not terribly difficult to create an anamorphic version with DVD Rebuilder Pro (which is technically not a free program, but there are ways around that ... ) and a ripping program like DVD Decrypter/burning program like ImageBurn.

In Photoshop, the polygonal lassoo (is that how you spell lassoo?) is your best friend for these situations.

Feather it a couple pixels on the hair area, and you're good to go.
