Because the OT wasn't HD...

No, it wasn't.  It was 35mm film.  Only Episode II and Episode III are HD.

But yeah, the OT, in its original form, has more than enough detail for HD, and would look even better than Episodes II and III.

But we don't have the OT in HD.  We have the 2004 SE in HD.  We have the OT in letterboxed SD.

What he was saying is that it has more detail than the letterboxed SD OT that we do have.  Which is true.

^The other night I took a fancy to listening to a few scenes from the film version.

I ended up going back to the beginning and watching it from scratch again.

The album is the only The Who album I can't listen to because the film trumps it as an opera performance. The story changes also seem to make more sense to me.

I listen to a it for a few minutes and instantly want to put the film on.

Really?  I can't stand the film.  I thought it was terrible, and mangled both the story and the music beyond repair.

As Lucas said, if I had time and a hammer...

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

It was the first film that was entirely color graded in a computer, so it seems very likely that it was the first complete DI.

Even The Fellowship of the Ring wasn't a complete DI - that's why they had to make a new transfer of it for Blu-Ray.  The other two LOTR films were complete DIs, though, if I recall correctly.

It's most likely impossible.  The only way this would work is if the dialogue was completely isolated in the center channel, which is incredibly rare - if there's anything else in the channel along with the dialogue, you may be able to EQ some of it out, but it'll still be there.  And, of course, you'd have to rebuild any sound effects from scratch.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I disagree.  It would have made sense, and it could have been done.

The #1 problem with the PT was the decision to focus so heavily on Anakin.  It should have focused on Obi-Wan as the primary protagonist.  And I think, had this been done, it could have worked while still keeping the surprises of the OT.

But that doesn't matter for this topic - this is about working with what we have, not creating something that was never there.

Leigh Brackett's first draft of Empire
Time

Well, Kurtz clearly said that before Lawrence Kasdan was even brought on, after Lucas had made changes himself.  Remember that Lucas isn't given a screenwriting credit for ESB - Brackett and Kasdan are.

Therefore, it seems likely that once Kasdan was brought on board, the screenplay was altered significantly from Brackett's original draft.

Speaking of which, I have Brackett's script, and still haven't given it a read.  Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Where does your screen name come from?

Mine is a portion of my last name.  Real first name is John.  In high school, we had about four Johns in the class so everyone - including ourselves - took to calling us by our last names or some variation thereof, mostly out of necessity to avoid confusion over who someone was talking to or about.  It stuck.

I had this issue myself in high school, except we had about four Eriks in the class (though I was the only one that spelled it with a K).

I became known as "Pancakes."

One thing that always bugged me about ESB. Growing up in school long before I saw ESB or even knew which movie it happens in, I often heard the line "Luke I am your father." It is probably the most quoted line in movie history. It's probably the most misquoted line in movie history too. The first time I saw ESB I was expecting Darth Vader to say it like that but instead he says "No, IIIII am your father." Adywan, could you insert the word "Luke" in his line right after he says "No"? So instead he says, "No Luke, I am your father."

Changing such an iconic line because people quote it wrong is just ... well, blasphemy may be a bit strong ...
