*crickets*
Nobody decides to eat crickets Frink. You are either forced to with "You have to try this" or do so out of necessity.
6th grade science class. We were given the option to eat chocolate-covered crickets for extra credit, or freeze-dried, non-chocolate-covered crickets for the same extra credit plus $10.
I got the $10. Didn't really taste like anything. Just crunchy.
Yeah, sounds like your computer has pretty much the same specs as mine, with the possibility of a slightly faster graphics card. You should be able to do 1080p editing, but it's likely to be a bit clunky.
I assume you're using a Windows computer? If so, I can't really help you out any more. I'm a Mac Final Cut Pro/Avid editor, I know nothing about Sony Vegas or other similar Windows-based editors.
Well, it sounds like you can play HD video just fine, but a "meager" video card definitely won't help when it comes to editing the HD video. How fast is your video card? 256MB, for example, is pretty low when it comes to working with HD video, but it can be made to work (that's what I have). Anything lower and you can pretty much forget about cutting HD.
You say "Intel dual core" - what are we talking here? 2.8 GHz? Less?

Ahh. The joys of film school. And I bet they probably don't know what you're talking about anyway. Anytime I mention THX I get the eye roll or what's that or you're crazy. The last one I get virtually every day on the hour.
The good thing is, it's for a Posthumanism in Science Fiction (actual class title is much longer and clunkier) class, so I don't get the eye-roll when I mention THX. But I'm willing to bet that my prof has a better grasp on the subject, though, being that he wrote the book...and several other books about the same subject...
Oh, I very much like the movie. I just didn't know what the hell to talk about in the paper, so it's mostly BS.

The problem isn't the vaccines, per se, it's the sheer number of them given at once nowadays, combined with using thimerosal (ethylmercury) as a preservative. Despite what some of you may say (very vehemently, I mighty add!), there is a definite link between thimerosal and mitochondrial disorders (Journal of Toxicology and Chemistry, last summer) There is also a known link between mitochondrial disorders and autism (Journal of The American Medical Association, last fall). I hope I don't need to draw a diagram here. I'll post pdfs, if you can't find these studies through Google. My wife has a Masters Degree in abnormal child psychology, and is the Clinical Supervisor in her school district for kids with autism. She has seen normally developing children suddenly "have autism" after 18 month vaccines. She doesn't want my 15 month old baby to have 9 different (yes, 9) poison laden vaccines injected into her at once during her 18 month checkup. Who the fuck am I to argue with her? The issue isn't "should children be vaccinated?" it's "do we really need a vaccine for the friggin' chicken pox"? or "do we really need 9 vaccines containing a known neuro-toxin at one time?" Bill Gates is a huge proponent of forced vaccinations. He's also a proponent of reducing the world's population by 10-15%. Draw your own conclusions. Also consider that 2 years ago Baxter (one of the biggest vaccine manufacturers in the world) sent large quantities of flu vaccine that were "accidently" contaminated with live Avian Flu samples. Despite the fact that there are numerous safety protocols that ensure that such a thing isn't even in the realm of possibility, it occured. Didn't really make the news much (I wonder why?) It was only caught when the receiving Country (Czech Republic) decided to test it first on lab animals. They were kinda surprised when they all started dying.
This is all pretty much 100% bullshit. Your wife isn't a medical doctor, either. I don't understand how you can trust a psychologist about such a serious medical issue that has nothing to do with psychology.
What are the specs of the computer you'll be using, and do you have a Blu-Ray drive?
In the commentary, the director says that the voice sounds like that because he wasn't allowed access to any old Dalek voice recordings, and he didn't have any old Dalek episodes with him to watch for comparison, so he did the voice himself from memory. Poor memory, it would seem.
I'm not going to be changing anything about the film itself for this disc. However, now that I've got the whole movie running at the proper speed, a fan edit might be on its way after the standard release...

Oh, and which one of you is ugnaught over at /r/doctorwho?
Ugh, I just wrote a 3-page paper about the depiction of posthumanism in that movie. About 75% of it was utter bullshit, which is admittedly lower than my usual bullshit percentage for school papers.
It's true. That man has no dick.
oooOOOooooh.....
Pretty :)
I'd advise against using the curves unless you're significantly more comfortable using them as opposed to the color wheels, setup, gain, and gamma controls.
Sounds like you've got a good grasp of how Color works, though, especially for a self-described "n00b," which is good! Vignettes and HSL keys are fairly advanced stuff.
Glad to hear it!
I watched it on my CRT last night, and there are definitely a few interlacing issues I missed. Time to go through that whole FCP timeline again...
Good news is, all 4 audio tracks sync perfectly and play at the right pitch!
I haven't been following too closely, but I'm surprised that you used the Master Lift and Master Gain controls last. Those are always the very first things I touch when I do color work. Adjust lift so the blacks are at or very close to 0 (but not below), then adjust gain so the whites are at or very close to 100 (but not over). Of course, if nothing's pure black or white in the particular shot, I don't go all the way to 0 or 100.
And I wouldn't do the desaturating-the-bottom-portion-of-the-luma-scale thing you were talking about. Instead, I'd use the far left color wheel (shadows) to get rid of the color cast in the dark areas. It'll yield better results.
You're using Color, yes? Are you using just the Primary In room, or are you using some Secondaries as well?
The parents' stupidity is putting the lives of other people's children at risk.
No one else appears interested in this, but what the hell, I'll post this anyway.
I've decided, in order to avoid piracy/copyright issues, that my disc will ONLY include the movie and the four audio tracks (main, commentaries, and isolated score). No other features from the retail discs will be duplicated on mine.
I haven't decided about the subtitles. I'd like to keep them (particularly the trivia track), but it seems that it may be more trouble than it's worth.
The good news is that it seems likely that this will end up being a single-layer disc in the end (as the movie itself on the retail disc only takes up one of the two layers), so it'll be a smaller download.
I'll also be making a movie-and-main-audio-only mp4, designed for playback in PS3's and Xbox 360's, for convenience and the option to download something of a smaller file size.
--edit--
Wow, everywhere other than here that I feel people might be interested in this, my posts are deleted without explanation or I'm outright banned. And I'm being as tactful as I can be about it, too, not mentioning any sites and clearly stating that this is meant for people who already own the retail disc and not as a form of piracy or copyright infringement.
I guess there's little tolerance for altering a retail Doctor Who DVD outside of a freakin' Star Wars forum...

I agree with keeping unvaccinated kids away from those who are not complete with vaccinations, to not treat said children? Are you ready to let a child die because the parents were too stupid to get the kid vaccinated? Please remember it is not the child's fault.
I think they won't have a problem finding a doctor who will treat their child, and the fact that the first doctor refused said treatment due to the vaccination issue might make them realize how big a mistake it was to not vaccinate them. They might reconsider and vaccinate their child because of this.
Yeah, TheBoost hit the nail on the head. That's exactly why.

I give you my take on this, doctors should never, ever refuse to treat a patient. EVER. I say doctors have duty to treat all patients. Whether or not they chose to get vaccinated is irrelevant.
Also, why punish the kid for to stupidity of the parent? I could understand refusing to treat an adult patient that refuses an adult vaccination. But why refuse to treat a child? The child has no say over whether or not they get vaccinated, it all up to the parents.
I think the doctor makes a good point that he also has to be concerned about the well-being of his other patients, many of whom would be children not yet complete with their own vaccination series.
I'd be unhappy if my son was exposed to pertussis because some asshole had their unvaccinated kid in the same waiting room. I know for a fact at school my kid is safe among other vaccinated kids.
This is exactly why I support the doctors in this situation.
Video is now finished! At least, it's as finished as possible. I'm going to render it out and watch it with my roommate tonight or tomorrow. If I notice any technical issues that hinder my or my roommate's enjoyment of the movie (she's never seen it, so she might be the better judge in this case), I'll go back and fix them before rendering out the final version and uploading it.
While this was a pain in the ass, it definitely wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I'm quite pleased with the result, and it's wonderful to hear Paul McGann's voice at the right pitch in the movie after hearing it that way in the audio dramas.

Sooo...does anyone know how to convert chapter times and subtitles from PAL to NTSC? Preferably on a Mac, as I plan to use DVD Studio Pro to author the disc.

The Parents should reserve the right to choose to have their kid vaccinated in the first place.
No, they really shouldn't. Vaccinations should be mandatory for everyone.
--edit--
Also, while I couldn't understand most of your post due to how incoherent it was, you seem to have misinterpreted the doctor's quote.
"I'm begging to treat the patients, but the parents are refusing to let me." The doctor saying this IS NOT refusing to treat unvaccinated children.
What he's saying is, he's begging the parents to let him vaccinate their children, but they're refusing to allow it.
Hey, at least you're finished! Can't wait to watch this!
