Guess I missed the post by a couple minutes.
I didn't even know she had cancer. She'd kept it well hidden from the general public, it seems.
I think I'll watch some of her Third/Fourth Doctor stories that I haven't seen yet.
Elisabeth Sladen, best known for her portrayal of the Third, Fourth and Tenth Doctors' companion Sarah Jane Smith (also the star of The Sarah Jane Adventures), has passed away today. Apparently she had been battling cancer for a while now, but had been keeping it quiet. Very sad news indeed.
1948-2011
It sounds like Ady is planning on releasing it as a BD-25, which would most certainly not fit on a DVD-9.
I guarantee someone will make a DVD-9 AVCHD of it, though, een if Ady doesn't.
There's definitely a way to do it without the 2-second pause, but again, I'm not somewhere where I can play around with Encore and tell you how to do it. I'll get back to you about it as soon as I can.
What version of Encore are you using, by the way?
Zombie, I agree with most of your list ... but I cannot condone In the Mood for Love. I hate that fucking movie. My friends and I all call it "that noodle movie," because that's all that happens - the main characters buy noodles in slow motion about 8 or 9 times, and some boring shit happens in between.
Okay, sorry, I just got home. I thought it'd be earlier, my mistake.
Now, if I understand correctly, you're trying to get the menu to have an intro video that leads directly into a static menu, yes? Or does the menu, once the intro is done and the user can choose an option, have motion to it then as well?
I didn't notice it. Not at home, though, so I can't check at the moment.
I'm not at my computer right now, so I won't be able to help you out with this until later tonight (so, in about 5 or 6 hours). But I'll let you know what I find out after I play with Encore a bit.
Game of Thrones.
Not usually being one for fantasy, I haven't read any of the novels. But damn, the pilot was pretty fucking good. I'm definitely intrigued enough to stick with the show.
My sources are the V3 and 97 SE V2 test discs that DJ sent out to some of us a few months ago. As far as I know, the video will be identical on the publicly-released 97 SE V2, whenever DJ decides to release it.
Also, to answer the color timing question - I'll be color correcting both sources, shot by shot, in FCS Color. Haven't gotten that far yet, though, so I don't know how I'll be timing it (that is, I don't know what I'll base my color correction on).
I'm working on this exact thing in between school and my two Doctor Who TV Movie projects.
Problem is, while the picture is better than the GOUT overall, DVNR smearing is worse in some instances.
BUT, it does look better overall, and it's much less of a jarring transition than 04 to GOUT.
That's wonderful news, Ady! Go and have fun, you deserve it!
Encore's fairly easy to use, though it's not quite as powerful as DVD Architect.
If you have issues or questions about Encore, I can answer them.
Adywan already did this with Empire, but his is in 1080p.
He's done 1080p AVCHD discs for ANH (color-corrected 2004 SE with 97 5.1, but Han shoots first), ESB (1997 SE restoration from the HD 2004, color corrected - don't know if he kept in the 04 shirt shadow/vest "fix" for Han, as he did in his 1980 theatrical DVD), and TPM (color corrected DVD/HD cut).
Don't know what his plans for Jedi are, but I'd wager it'll be the same as ESB (conform the 2004 HD to the 1997 SE and use the 1997 5.1). He's said he won't do this until after he finishes ESB:R, though.
Bad burn or bad download, I'd say.
Party Down.
This show is pretty hilarious. Definitely recommended. (Admittedly, it's probably funnier if you've worked in catering.)

I've read all four books, but I barely remember 2061 and absolutely loathed 3001. So I don't particularly care if they ever get made or not.
What did you hate about it?
You know, I don't remember exactly what it was that made me hate it so much. I do remember that it felt far less grounded in reality than its predecessors. I think part of it was the depiction of the monoliths, and the sheer ridiculousness of the world (didn't Clarke write in a velociraptor as a butler or something like that at one point?) that put me off. That and the idea that you can revive a person that had been exposed to the vacuum of space for a millenium.
I've read all four books, but I barely remember 2061 and absolutely loathed 3001. So I don't particularly care if they ever get made or not.
And to add to the thread:
Metal Gear.
Ideally, I'd like to see Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake condensed into a single Metal Gear film, followed by Metal Gear 2: The Twin Snakes (a fairly faithful adaptation of Metal Gear Solid), Metal Gear 3: Sons of Liberty (adaptation of MGS2 with some liberties taken to make sure it, you know, makes sense), Metal Gear: Outer Heaven (MGS3, Portable Ops and Peace Walker all combined and reorganized into a single prequel focusing on Big Boss), and finally Metal Gear 4: Guns of the Patriots (again, an adaptation of MGS4 with some liberties taken to make it make more sense).
I seriously doubt that will happen - if we get a Metal Gear game, it'll be one of three things - a unique story outside the canon of the games, an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, or a side story/sequel/midquel that tells a non-game story, but still takes place in the games' canon. The first and third possibilities I wouldn't mind, but it'd bug me if they ignored MG and MG2:SS just to adapt Metal Gear Solid.

^Is it really smart to admit you've done acid? Haha.
Ha, I don't really care. I can't get arrested now for admitting (on an Internet forum, no less) that I've done it in the past. The only other things I have to worry about are potential bannings (a warning is more likely, and if I get one I'll personally edit all of my posts and never mention it again), and my overall reputation around here, which I, frankly, don't really care about that much.
CP3S, you've got a PM.

Someone wake me when all these "Last X Seen" threads are done with Doctor Who.
;-)
You've just gotta get with the program, Frink! The first 4 seasons of the revived series are on Netflix Instant, get on it! ;-)

Two sequels to Stargate that continues the story of the film, with no allusion to SG-1 or the other TV spinoffs.
Ooh, good one.
I'd also like to see a second Twin Peaks movie that wraps up the cliffhanger ending to Season 2.
Oh God, The Wall on acid ...
I've watched 2001 on acid. It's definitely a far different, much more intense experience, and it made me appreciate the film that much more. A friend of mine claims he smelled blue during the "stargate" sequence.
