The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

I got the impression in TFA that Leia had been shut out of the political process somewhere in those three decades. (I think someone said the novelization suggested the information about her true father was used against her?) Would that also cause the New Republic leadership to distance itself from Luke and the attempt to bring back the Jedi?
That could also factor in Luke’s decisions.

In Bloodline, a recording Bail made to explain Leia’s parentage to her in case of his death is found, and one of her political opponents plays it for the entire Senate, destroying her political career.

This is also how Ben learns about his grandfather, as Leia and Han hadn’t told him yet. (He’s off training with Luke in the book, so we don’t see his reaction to the news.)

Anakin’s new introduction. I think seeing for the first time, behind the controls of the Pod, significantly helps justify him piloting the Naboo straighter during the final battle.

I aslo made some changes to Jar Jar’s introduction to Padme, I’m not aware of this being done before…

Cool ideas here.
Anakin’s introduction is very abrupt. I realize you’re trying to emulate the style of a Marvel movie, but the prequels are shot so passively that I don’t know how successful that can be. My suggestion: After the discussion about going to Tatooine and the Hutts (maybe ending with ‘It’s controlled by the Hutts’), cut to an establishing shot of the planet with the start of the race fanfare. Then show the wide shot of the starting line with Jabba the Hutt, so that the two ideas are linked. Then we get a quick start to the race and shots of many racers being picked off quickly by Sebulba. After he’s established a lead, then we see an unknown racer in a small pod begin to overtake him, and they are linked together. When Anakin breaks free, the announcer shouts ‘It’s Skywalker!’, and only then do we get a good look at his face.

This is a solid suggestion right here. (Haven’t gotten to watch the clip yet myself, though.)

That’s correct. The movies are on DVD individually:

 1. Bender’s Big Score
 2. The Beast with a Billion Backs
 3. Bender’s Game
 4. Into the Wild Green Yonder

Watch them in order.

Then the Comedy Central seasons start with Volume 5 on DVD (even though the DVD movies go between Volume 4 and 5). First episode of the Comedy Central seasons is “Rebirth.” It follows on directly from the fourth movie.

Just finished Futurama (thanks Ash). Apparently there are some movies and a couple of other, newer seasons. Has anyone watched them? Does anyone know if it’s as good as the original?

Ooh boy, my time to shine! 😄

There were 4 seasons produced for Fox. Fox doesn’t know what the fuck they’re doing and jumbled up the episodes, so they aired those 4 seasons as 5. Hulu and Netflix (when they had it) used the Fox 5-season order, the DVDs use the 4-season production order.

Comedy Central brought it back for four DVD movies which make up production season 5, aired season 6 (Hulu has the movies in their cutdown 16-episode format as season 6). They’re good.

Then Comedy Central brought it back “properly” as two 26-episode season orders, production seasons 6 and 7. They aired them as four 13-episode seasons, aired seasons 7-10. Hulu and Netflix use the four aired season orders, the DVDs use production episode order but still split them up into four “volumes.”

The last seasons are good overall, but the lows are lower than the Fox seasons. They’re definitely still worth watching, and the finale is excellent (though I still prefer “Devil’s Hands” as the “true” finale).

I don’t think “awe inspiring” is a requirement for good VFX. There wasn’t a shot in Apes where I was aware of the fact that I was watching mocapped CGI - I fully bought that I was watching these living characters on screen the entire time. I couldn’t say that for the first two (though the second came close).

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I was doing some reading and found this…
“AVCHD is formatted for burning onto a Blu-ray Disk (BD) or even a dual-layer DVD (DVD-DL). This version usually downloads as a .ISO file (often with a .MDS file included). Not all soundtracks and subtitles are included in this version due to BD limitations. See this article to learn how to “mount” the .ISO file on Windows, Mac, or Linux.”

I’d like the MKV with all the features and audio, but if you convert this to AVCHD, it won’t lose the additional commentaries and stuff like that ? No loss of quality ?

AVCHD is a Blu-Ray burned to a DVD9, more or less. Converting the MKV to an 8GB AVCHD will lose quality. Just convert it to a BD25 and burn it to a single-layer Blu-Ray, then you won’t lose quality. Otherwise just download the AVCHD version and burn that to a dual-layer DVD (though it will only play in a Blu-Ray player).

I would delete the scene of Hux informing Snoke he found the location of the rebel base because it never affects the plot in this edit.

That’s in so we know the base is the weapon’s next target, which gives the Resistance a little more reason to keep fighting rather than just retreat and lick their wounds. In V1 it was mostly an unspoken sense of revenge for the destruction of Hosnian Prime, which didn’t work quite so we’ll.

The Last Jedi : a Fan Edit Ideas thread
Time

Sir Ridley said:

Here’s my change list thus far, with changes I’m not sure about in parentheses:
• (Rewrite crawl)
• Trim or cut Poe’s tooling with Hux
• Cut BB-8 headbutting the X-wing electronics
• Trim Paige’s bombing to make it a bit less drawn out
• (Add ending from TFA with Rey arriving on the island and transition into first scene with Luke, edit sky as needed)
• (Recut to have Rey pick up the thrown saber before going after Luke)
• Cut shot of Luke drinking milk and instead show the creature looking at Rey at that point
• Cut Rey’s line “I’ve seen your daily routine, you’re not busy”
• (Cut Luke’s first “everything you said was wrong”, because I feel like Rey wasn’t completely wrong and I dislike how it was used twice like a catchphrase)
• Trim Luke tickling Rey
• Fix continuity error where Finn’s bag is outside then inside escape pod
• (Trim or cut Maz’s call)
• Trim Canto Bight balcony scene, specifically Rose’s line “I wish I could put my fist through this whole lousy, beautiful town”
• Trim or cut BB-8 getting filled with coins and shooting them out
• After Finn and Rose escape, edit the sewer lid to be mostly or fully closed
• In the fathier sequence, cut some of Finn’s lines: “stop enjoying this”, “too much cover”, “make them hurt”
• Cut steam iron “ship”
• (Trim or cut BB-8 controlling the AT-ST)
• Cut Finn’s line “did he just…?”
• Cut Rey’s line about how Kylo should put on a cowl
• Cut Rey’s first lines of voice over when she is in the mirror cave
• (Add visions of violence and destruction to when Luke “looks inside” Kylo’s mind)
• Fix Yoda’s face a bit
• (Make Yoda more blue/pale and transparent like other force ghosts)
• (Extend final Yoda shot like Hal 9000 proposed and/or move scene to other spot in the film like darthrush proposed)
• Cut Poe saying “big ass door”, perhaps edit to just “big door”
• Recut to show Rose coming to save Finn earlier in the suicide run sequence to imply that he needs to be saved rather than having us believe he will successfully sacrifice himself
• Stabilize crate when projected Luke sits on it, like Hal 9000 said

I agree with almost all of this, but I’d keep both “every word in that sentence was wrong” lines and I’d definitely cut the fathier chase, implying that DJ just got them out and to his ship like others have suggested.

I really hope some of the deleted scenes are worth including and in good shape…

I know you finshed but you should add the line from season 6 of the clone wars.

Replace my powers have doubled since we last fought. With for once you did you’re own dirty work count

Again, the different voice actors makes it too jarring. If you want this to happen so badly do it in your own edit instead of constantly telling others to do it even after they’ve said they won’t be using the idea.
