STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

There is no “love triangle” in Star Wars OR Empire. In ANH Han only says he’s interested in her to wind up Luke. Luke is the only one to show any interest in her but there is nowhere that Leia shows anything more than friendship towards Luke. The kiss on the cheek during the chasm sequence is nothing more than a kiss for luck. In ESB Leia only kisses Luke in the medical bay to wind Han up. The kiss she gives Luke after they rescue him is nothing more than a friendly kiss. She has already announced her love for Han by this point. Luke doesn’t show any romantic interest in her at all.

Yet when we get to ROTJ, Han suddenly thinks Luke is a rival and becomes this jealous idiot? All that has to go. Han became a pretty much useless character as it is in Jedi, but this jealousy crap put it over the edge.

I think you can make this argument because of the way it’s played but it’s not actually the case. Mostly bc the whole “farm boy rescues the princess” is inherently romantic. And Luke is clearly interested in her romantically; with Han it’s less definitive but the very nature of their contentiousness implies sexual tension - this is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

By the end of the first film things are up in the air but the princess has “bonded” in different ways with both men - basically the classic “sex” (Han) vs “marriage” (Luke) contrast. Though it’s not clear where it will go, generally speaking a moralistic story like Star Wars would reward Luke in this scenario.

I think with Empire they moved away from the Luke part of it bc of that chemistry between Ford and Fisher, which was the smart play.

I agree that by ROTJ it was way past decided but I don’t think it’s completely implausible Han thinks that Luke is in the picture. Mostly it speaks to the insecurity behind his bravado, which is a good bit of character that shouldn’t be lost.

Gosh there are a lot of posts here, so I am probably repeating (sorry) but two things that stuck out to me in the list that I think you should NOT do:

Ewok eyes - they SHOULD blink. Greedo and others got to blink in revisited and it’s arguably a more important feature for the “lovable” Ewoks

The Dug in Jabba’s palace - I think it should be kept, similar to putting in the shot of the battle droid in ANH, it’s good for connecting the prequels texturally (or whatever)

Yes, i had a 1080p scan from a 35mm source. It was a pretty beat up print and badly faded, but did the trick in the end. I have been able to do all of the cropped shots. All i have heard about the cropping is that George preferred the tight framing done in ANH for the cockpits. How true that rumour is, is anyone's guess.

Yeah I read in The Secret History of Star Wars (I think) that Lucas was annoyed that they made the cockpit bigger for ESB ;something to do with preferring a cramped WWII vibe, I think; can't recall exactly.

Here's a test clip of the new settings. Notice the baby's face taking a quality hit; it can be taken too far!

This looks very good to me. I think it'll always be a little weird bc the lighting is so much more naturalistic than in the prequels. That strong shadow is just out of character. But it's close enough.

Idea: HD restoration of the Phantom Edits..

I know this is a can of worms if you start considering changes BUT wrt Attack of the Phantom, I always felt like it was a terrible shame he cut the asteroid chase. I get it - it doesn't move the story forward, yadda yadda. Imho the cut is so short, it can sustain a little needless action that actually is pretty cool and has one of the all-time great sounds of cinema history. Seriously, the "seismic bomb" is the cat's pajamas.

When I was a kid I imagined that Han's idealised older brother was a Jedi killed in the Clone Wars leaving Han to be raised by Chewie.

He seemed very dismissive of the power of the Force and the chances of the Rebels, beyond natural skepticism and I pictured it came from some Freudian trauma.

I got the impression that his attitude is sort of the norm at that point (ANH). There are repeated references to adherents to "the Force" being out of step.

Help Wanted: Possibly starting brand new, HD edits of the prequels from blu-ray sources, need a bit of input here.

EPI might have the most flaws, but I think it's also the most salvageable. Sure Jar Jar can be annoying and the pod race is too long and the announcers are annoying, but those can all be trimmed out. Phantom Menace also has the best acting of any of the prequels (IMO), has much more heart and the most "worth saving" moments out of any of them. Also it feels more like a star wars film. It legitimately doesn't feel like a video game cutscene. And it's the last sw film to use actual models for ships, and it shows.

Is that an actual fact re: the model ships? I know there is model work in all three prequels, however I didn't know about the ships, or lack thereof in II and III.

Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception (Released)

I've watched through the pod race, and at the risk of premature congratulations, it seems really good to me ... I tend to agree that the invasion might be better explained, just one sentence in the crawl would be better than nothing. But I find that to be a minor point; I just think this moves along well, and SMOOTHLY, it's watchable (thus far) like a "regular" movie.

The starting from scratch issue and which versions and which crawls will be used have all been covered multiple times in this thread

I know what's in the thread. I was stating that though I appreciate it would require starting from scratch, I'd still like to see it happen.

Similarly, I was stating my preference as far as the crawl goes. My understanding is both thoughts are academic, since no-one was endeavoring to actually create the cut anymore.
