SPACE MADNESS
DID’NT YOU SEE THE CROWDS?
SPACE MADNESS
DID’NT YOU SEE THE CROWDS?
Another potential use of the fanfilm is to use it at the Death Star ruins, maybe a joint ‘vision’ Rey and Kylo are having…the bits where Rey sees herself turned to the dark side, she can see Ben decapitating Vader.
I like this idea. I guess the first question is when do you think The Simpsons stopped being good? For me the last great season is 8. But there are some gems in season 9, more than any subsequent season (do to it including some holdover episodes from season 8). Off the top of my head I like the NYC one, ‘Realty Bites’ and ‘Cartridge Family’.
I think it’s important to have a Treehouse episode (you could mix and match the segments from different years). There should also be a Sideshow Bob episode. Not sure which I would pick. And it’s a good idea to get as much Phil Hartman as possible (his last appearance is in season 10).
As for closure, that’s a good point. I think the one where Maude Flanders dies would probably be a good inclusion (even if it’s a little depressing). Also ‘Behind the Laughter’ feels like a final season kind of episode. Not sure how far into the series you want to go, in terms of matching SD/HD episodes, but I vaguely remember there being some decent stuff in season 20 that could give a good sense of finality.
There’s “Holidays of Future Present”, which to my understanding was deemed the ‘canonical’ conclusion to the show out of all the ‘future’ episodes they’ve done, but theree’s also “Barthood”, which I often felt was the more believable ending out of the two.
Sideshow Bob wound up having a family, but that ended up being ignored with subsequent appearances. I always felt like “Brother From Another Series” was the natural ending for Bob’s character, as he does a lot of redeeming things in that episode, he and Bart work together etc. Maybe an alternative ending could be given to that episode as it originally ends with Bob being incarcerated again.
Another idea I had would be to trim half of “Homer’s Enemy” off and join it up with it’s follow-up where his son is out for revenge on Homer and Sideshow Bob helps the family track down the culprit.
No I meant it would be better if the helmet in the vision was not used at all in the film, instead using shots of kylo with his back to the camera and him using the cross guard.
Gotcha, I misinterpreted the post.
I think it would be better to avoid showing kylo with the mask in the vision so as to save it for later. Showing him using the cross guard would probably be sufficient.
Would the helmet be altered to reflect it’s state in the rest of the movie then if shots are being saved for later?
Pacing wise I don’t think including the whole fight would work, I’m thinking more colour corrected flashes of Vader from the fan film saying Ben and other relevent dialogue like “come to me” etc when he touches the wayfinder. Could even get a shot of Kylo’s saber decapitating him in there.
Yes, it’d be more a ‘vanity vision’ for Kylo, it could mostly use the bits where Ben has the upper hand (maybe Vader’s force choke on him can stay, but not much else), as that’s what Kylo has in the opening raid. He gets stronger as the wayfinder calls to him/ultimately challenges him
Maybe even similar to Harry Potter walking back through Hogwarts after the big battle.
Maybe change the colour correcting to Red, Mustafar.
I doubt it but maybe there’s a way to splice the Mustafar raid with the Kylo v. Vader fan film to make it seem like while he’s fighting that giant group he’s actually just envisioning taking down Vader?
Maybe Vader is a projection of the Wayfinder? When Ren defeats him, he opens the casket and removes it?
There’s a post-credit scene in the fan film where Kylo is about to remove his helmet, so that would help with maintaining continuity.
Why wouldn’t you go through with an extended cut of this ambitious project?
Because I decided to use what I wanted for another project, plus I didn’t want to make it appear as if Deadpool was dominating the movie with his side-plot.
Did another edit of Angels Take Manhattan, the infofarium short is now the pre-titles, and I replaced the last scene with (Amy’s farewell) with the Rain Gods short. Rory’s Story, the recently released Youtube special, is now the new ending.
This edit came pretty close to winning Fan Edit of the Month over on FE.org, it survived no less than TWO January run offs when I tied with Problem Eliminator’s Rocket Man edit. He won by a landslide on the third runoff though

For years, we’ve all heard the familiar chorus, “They’ll never stop the Simpsons, have no fears, we’ve got stories for years”…well, consensus on the internet is they ran out of stories and drive to do better decades ago, yet they persevere, the bar considerably lowered year after year…oh sure they’ll be a few standouts, but they’re spread far beyond and even between what we usually get.
So the challenge lies with the fans…let’s create the ideal 26-episode ‘final season’, we can achieve this by carefully cherry-picking the best of the weaker seasons, or ones that provide sufficient ‘closure’ for some existing plot points and character arcs, or by fan-editing/fan-mixing episodes together, (this can include material from the various Treehouse of Horrors also), to add to the ‘season’.
Youtube Channels like ‘Dark Simpsons’ shows editing episodes into something totally different can be achieved, so we surely we can attempt it on a bigger scale.
Here are a couple of articles that can help

That’s fair enough, I just think it would give more of a darkside nightmarish sith vibe if it was all red. Like the vision was induced by palpatine.
Hmm, actually that’s a good point too, as the planet/backdrop Kylo finds the wayfinder on does have a crimson sky, it would compliment the previous scene and tone logically if the scene were regraded.
Maybe change the colour correcting to Red, Mustafar.
Since it uses a similar location to the final act in Force Awakens, I reckoned it would work that way as a ‘call back’ to Ben’s first major defeat at Rey’s hands and would serve as a “redemption” for him if he could defeat the spectre of Vader there, proving he’s now ‘ready’ for Rey.
I recently found the Kylo vs Vader fanfilm. I think one editor a while back borrowed something from this for a Force Awakens edit, but I think it could be integrated into Rise of Skywalker fairly easily and be used to inform the audience of a lot of Kylo’s motivations. You could also push his journey to Exogal up to follow from it
Here’s what I came up with (password: fanedit)
Beginning
Ending
Yoda and luke helps rey…next, obi wan and anakin
Wow, terrific work there
Excellent, and yeah, a fast release date makes things all the better for the end product.
Interestingly, there already exists an official ‘recut’ as UKTVPlay has a two-part version running 45 minutes each, presumbly that’s to make it easier to digest on reruns
Just a collection of thoughts I had on the recent Red Dwarf special that aired this past Thursday
Another jolly old boys from the Dwarf outing, fair, but flawed, and a lot of padding and squandered opportunities.
The first fifteen or so minutes can definitely go, it’s full of scenes that don’t lead anywhere (what was with that awful sex change operation exchnage?), how about we start the story off with the crew finding Holly’s back-up floppy? Also we can cut out the Cat, Kryten and Rimmer trying to convince the cats Lister isn’t a god.
I’d like to see if it’s possible for the cats to somehow NOT lose their faith in Lister, as that is such cliched writing, I’d also like to end the story on Rimmer actually dying after he saves the ship from the bomb. Cat lamenting Rimmer’s loss and asking who he won’t like now still fits with the storyline of Rimmer feeling unloved.
I realised that if I remove Lister’s followers losing their faith, I’d have to remove the whole portion of the plot that deals with the Anubis stone…which of course is the macguffin that leads to Rimmer becoming diamond light and saving the ship. Rewatching the episode I still think it’s entirely possible to make it so the 'Dwarfers never give up the stone when they first confront the cats at the Iron Star, and it still plays a role later in giving Rimmer his powers.
I was thinking of using something from the first five or ten minutes of the episode, where it’s just Kryten, Cat and Lister together, and placing it towards the end, repurposing Lister’s directionless behaviour as being more to do with the fact Rimmer is gone than being the last human alive. On further inspection, I think I probably could use the minimal amount of the sex change operation joke to close the episode out on a wacky note.
I really like the idea of delaying the return of Ben and then ending the movie with/near that scene. But you irised the wrong way 😉 (the final shot is supposed to disappear as a small circle shrinking into the middle of the screen). Unless, of course, it was stylistically designed to be that way.
Total blunder on my part, though I kind of like reversing the iris, when timed with the music it does make look like the iconic fanfare is coming at you.
You could have the celebration go like in the film, destroyers being downed etc, when finn and Poe are searching for Rey you could then cut to the shot of Ben’s hand rising up the cliff and saving Rey.
The rise of skywalker.
I’ll try out your suggestions, I’ve had a lot of fun today experimenting with different takes on scenes.
I like the execution of Ben surviving in this version, but what would happen next?
Different editor here, but the two options could be
-End the movie almost as soon as the kiss happens
-Edit it so kylo is on Tatoonie with Rey as she buries the lightsabers, using footage of him from the desert earlier.
I chose the former for my try-out edits

That worked surprisingly well, you could save the scenes with Ben and Rey till after the celebration, making it the the final scene.
Thanks, and yeah, as nice as it is to close on the falcon, it’s Rey and Kylo’s story and they should be highlighted, feels kinds of random to have Poe be the last character you see.

Here is a very rough look at my removal of Leia’s ghost. It doesn’t look great yet but this shows that it is possible!
I didn’t notice anything too rough there, either I need to go to specsavers or you did a good job there
This sounds amazing, a real rethink of the movie, I’d love to see it if possible
Why don’t you kill Leia off in this film? Have her be the one that calls out to Ben in Snoke’s throne room and she then keels over…that would make it all the more tragic as Ben still picks the dark side afterwards.
Obviously I missed my Christmas release window, that’s because the DVD came a little late (sometime around mid-January), and I got caught up with other projects. I recently found the time the last few weeks, I pieced together the edit on it’s own, but then a different idea occurred to me, and I might end up combining it with Infinity War.
I’m probably going to do a combined 2-in-one edit where past Thanos doesn’t show up after Thor kills the present version , and when the world is restored by Hulk, there is no final showdown.
