Star Wars: A New Hope (Enhanced Edition) CANCELLED

If you are a fan of Batman Begins the Dark Cut and wanted something similar done in 4K, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Awesome news!
And for ANH, take your time, don’t rush it 😃 I think it’ll feel great regarding vader/anakin and Ben will fight each other again in the series. For sure it will be more dynamic than in the original ANH therefore you edit fits well. some would say your edit doesn’t stay true to the original trilogy but I’m fine with that. Never liked the vader/Ben fight in the original.

Have you considered doing a slow fade to and from black and white? Sort of like what Park Chan-wook did for the “Fade to Black and White” cut of Lady Vengeance. If timed perfectly it could really elevate the visual storytelling of the film to a whole new level.

I don’t have the best skills or tools available, but if you want any help I won’t mind lending a hand where I can.

Love that idea!

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]

I’m still working on the ordering. I don’t want to rearrange too much, but I have the following goals, in this order:

  • Pace Maul throughout
  • Pace Mandalore throughout
  • Get a lot of quality up front (to prove the show to the first-time viewer)
  • Highlight Ahsoka’s growth
  • Pepper the best of the rest throughout, making sure it paces OK in terms of both characters and visuals

We are locked to the following breakpoints:
Every early Ventress episode > Nightsisters > All remaining Ahsoka episodes before the model update > Heroes on Both Sides > A Friend in Need > Remaining Mandalore episodes in order

We have about 40 episodes in this new show. Looking at JUST the Maul, Mandalore and Ahsoka ones (the ones we need to pace well), we have eight Maul ones, which means about four episodes between each Maul. If I then evenly spread the remaining Mandalore ones, and then spread Ahsoka’s arc across the whole in the current chronological order (about two episodes per Maul, though more Ahsoka earlier), we end up with the following.

(Bear in mind there’d still be four episodes per Maul, so where the Mauls seem close together, they’d be spaced with other non-Mando/non-Ahsoka episodes)

  1. Christophsis (Ahsoka’s intro part only) - mandatory
  2. Mandalore Plot - Deathwatch intro and a new layer to Kenobi early
  3. Rising Malevolence - tension between Ahsoka and Anakin, intro to Ahsoka and Plo
  4. Cloak of Darkness - Ahsoka with Luminara
  5. Storm over Ryloth - Ahsoka’s first major mistake and lesson
  6. Nightsisters - A hint of Maul
  7. Duchess of Mandalore - Deathwatch back on the scene
  8. Holocron Crisis - Disobedience and discipline for Ahsoka, force sensitive kids
  9. Bounty Hunters on Felucia - no focus on Ahsoka, but a fun episode with her in it
  10. Lightsaber Lost - After a few mistakes, Ahsoka learns to slow down
  11. Boba Fett vs Mace - Boba’s in play, and Ahsoka’s getting competent
  12. Return of Maul - about as early as you could get it
  13. Corruption on Mandalore - A low-level easyish solo Ahsoka mission with the beginnings of her teaching
  14. Senate Spy - Anakin and Padme argue, lead in to Battle of Geonosis
  15. Battle of Geonosis - Competent Ahsoka compares herself to Barriss
  16. Brain Invaders - Ahsoka forced into solo competency and a bit of trauma
  17. Revival - The growing threat of the Maul bros as they turn to piracy
  18. Heroes on Both Sides - New look for Ahsoka (because of the competency/trauma!)
  19. Padme assassination episode - Not much growth for Ahsoka but good Padme
  20. A Friend in Need - More Lux, more deathwatch
  21. Eminence - Maul forms the Shadow Collective
  22. Citadel - Ahsoka disobeys orders the right way, a bit more trauma
  23. Hunted by Trandoshans - A big test of Ahsoka solo and as a teacher
  24. Shades of Reason - Maul takes Mandalore
  25. Kadavo
  26. Jedi Younglings - Ahsoka now given the authority to formally teach younglings
  27. Onderon - Ahsoka now responsible for training an insurgency
  28. The Lawless - Maul rules Mandalore
  29. Ahsoka’s Fall - Followed by some time off as we focus on other characters (those episodes not in this list)
  30. Son of Dathomir Audio Comic - Maul liberated
  31. Martez Sisters - We see what Ahsoka’s been up to, and get more hints of Maul
  32. The Siege of Mandalore - The grand finale to all of the above

How does that feel, read in that order? That would be essentially the Mandalorian Cut of the Clone Wars: Refocused project. Does it feel like this meets our stated goals? (Are those goals sensible?)

I think it reads awesome. Just two questions:

  • right now I don’t know for sure in which arc this takes place: later in the series ahsoka got captured by cad bane and anakin goes after her. There we get the line „I can’t let you die ahsoka“ - if I’m not mistaken, did you include that?
  • what did you decided to do with mortis? Leave it out or dream sequence (for morai)?

Does Din know that Gideon dies? How does Luke know Vader’s alive in Empire Strikes Back? His ship was shot down in space…

You all keep saying plot hole, it’s not a plot hole.

The difference with ESB is that there was a time skip of 3 years in between ANH and that movie, by which point Luke would have has plenty of time to figure out Vader was alive. Mando doesn’t have any time in season 2 to figure that out offscreen, he’s on a mission the whole time. It is a plot hole.

Except we don’t see the entire conversation between Boba, Fennec, and Din as they get on Slave I, fly to Nevarro, then as Cara boards Slave I and they fly to meet Mayfield. There’s plenty of off-screen time to assume a conversation takes place.

Lines in Chapter 15 could also be changed and cut around to “where they took him” instead of saying Gideon by name if it’s THAT big of a deal to you, but it’s something that will easily be assumed and then character development and raising stakes can be preserved.

Our lead character making sacrifices, showing growth from when he refused to do the same action in the previous film’s climax, is a far more important aspect to the story being told, and has more bearing on the primary relationship between Din and Grogu.

Fair point. But as long as I didn’t get rusty in storytelling and direction, you should never let the audience assume everything vital to a story and therefore show it (either by words or image). So it’s up to smudger how he intends to tell his story.

Also, having multiple characters talk about Gideon and inform Din he’s being hunted right before the Imperials kidnap Grogu (again ignored that Bo-Katan mentioned Gideon isn’t dead). There’s no plot hole.

Just watched Chapter 11 again, Bo-Katan never mentioned Gideon by Name either in front of Din or else.
Furthermore cutting the scene in chapter 12 with mayfield telling Din Gideon is alive would be strange later. Why would Din hunt down Gideon again? Why wouldn’t Din questioned anyone to get intel on who hunts him?
So there is a plot hole for Din. Not the viewer, that’s right.

It wasn’t Mayfeld who told him that, he found out from the hologram of Dr. Pershing. But you’re right. I heard JakeRyan talking about Bo-Katan mentioning that Gideon was alive, and I thought “That’s weird, I don’t remember that happening.” So I think he must have just been misremembering when he said that. Cutting Chapter 12 does create a plot hole then.

Right, dr. Pershing, mixed that up with mayfeld ensuring Din this is legit.

Your output is difficult to follow in regard of publication cycle, though I understand your enthusiasm and time you have. So everything is fine.

CW Wednesday sounds awesome but i would suggest a cycle of 2 weeks. So anyone who is interested got enough time to watch and review it.

Mortis
I can see and understand your point. Partially I even agree with it, it is a little bit over the top.Though I think it’s a desirable episode. Why?

  • as you mentioned Qui-Gon, Anakins Vision
  • but also Ahsoka (she fights Anakin - even though she isn’t herself - Anakin brings her back from the dead, something vital I think, it emphasizes anakins problems to let go and the relationship)
  • nature of the force (later Yoda got his meeting with the whills - lost missions; in rebels we get the „Pathway between worlds“ where „The Ones“ Father, Son, Daughter also appears at a wall painting)

What I didn’t catch yet is: do you will combine scenes/entire episodes with different qualities (720p, 1080p, 4K)? If so, i would think to hold onto the quality of the majority of sources works best. Less work to do (if everything is 1080p) and someone would decide to upscale everything to 4K. This someone wouldn’t have the hercules task to junk it to pieces and bring any scene to the same quality.
Of course there would be the work to upscale from 720p to 1080p beforehand, but it wouldn’t take as long as to 4k. At least I think, but if I’m wrong I would be happy to get corrected.

Hi, I currently have the DNR version of 4K77, but I’ve heard that 1.4 is a big improvement. I’ve also heard about a few other versions so I’m a bit confused as to which is the latest/best.
I have heard about a skywaker/skymaster edition, not sure what that is. Also I think there is a colour correction by DrDre but I’m not sure if that has been released yet. Any information would be great, thanks.

there is no best version, it is a matter pf preferences. The latest nodnr is v1.4. But there are working on k77 2.0 right now with some cleanup improvements

Ok gang, Star Wars- The Clone Wars I-VI (Kane’s Edits) have been released! After a year of planning and practising I’ve brought you guys a series I’m very happy with. Perfect for a prequel era marathon in my opinon. So yeah, PM me if you would like links.

Also, use this forum to discuss what you think of them. If anyone wants an in depth run down on any film feel free to ask on here to.

This show has been great to work on since I was 10 when the 2008 film came out and throughout the series I always wished the show could of released feature length cuts of certain stories. So I ended up doing that… at 22.

Now, I think I may start planning my next Star Wars project… after a short break 😉

Enjoy guys!

As per pm, appreciate your work (still have to watch them). New project? reb…?😛

Actually we’re in the middle of Empire and are hoping to have it out before Xmas in which case it’ll be NTSC GOUT synched to work with hairy_hen’s soundtrack.

If a newer version of hairy_hen’s soundtrack comes out post release then it’s easy enough to do another release that syncs with it.

This would be a blast if you all manage to finish it till Xmas. Nate, Williarob ,tn1, you are sent from heaven for this community.

Totally agree with nates and yours opinion about invites and participation.

I think we’re jumping the gun here. 9 and 10 can are nice filler episodes, but entirely irrelevant to the bigger picture. You can establish in the crawl that the Mandalorian is searching for others of his kind, and he is transporting a passenger to a planet in search of finding one. Then start with Episode 11.

Mando’s line in the cantina could be repurposed at some point to explain how he got Boba Fett’s armor. The only continuity issue is the ship being wrecked, but the Falcon’s hyperdrive got crummy between 4 and 5 so I don’t think that matters.

Absolutely agree, even though I like the appearance of timothy olyphant very much
