The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]

@EddieDean – I took a crack myself at an idea, stemming from V4. Check it out here: https://vimeo.com/495284667

Take it with a grain of salt, especially from a guy who has never seen TCW. That said, I know this much:

  1. It’s about intergalactic AND inter- / intra- personal wars.
  2. Asohka and Anakin are primary characters.
  3. The music should take into account the emotions revolving around each of the above.

So, I took a swing. Might be a huge miss, but happy to contribute an iota of an idea for this great thread!

Keep up the great work!

EDIT: Music credit goes to Samuel Kim, with remix by me.

I’ve to say I like it too. Right amount of epicness. For a second I had concerns it’ll be the avengers theme from endgame when the intro text unfolds.
Though I agree with eddiedean regarding the longer time for the introtext and piano to pin point this with the emerging sentences.

One minor issue for me is that the audio-transition from the tcw logo to the episode name is fairly rough, because of the difference between the two music pieces. Perhaps it is possible to smoothin it out? Or maybe it the intro music could end around 0:54/55? Therefore the difference would be lesser than before.

For stereo to 5.1, you could use ffmpeg, the conversion to 5.1 should work? (not an expert though).

Other than that, great job!

I also prefer v4, like the others and most importantly yourself.
The motion of the background in the end credits is great. Would second a little wider font size.
As for the display of the single textlines: as suggested one or two seconds more I find difficult. I think half a second more would be enough.

Really great work mate.

Here’s a question for you all: If I run out of concept ART for the closing credits, would it be best to fill the gaps with promotional shots from the episode (so nice shots but not concept), or other concept materials like the images they show when creating new assets like sets or characters, which are less beautiful but interesting in a different way?

Would work for me. Another idea would be, to use gimp and make screenshots from episodes more art-like via filter.

Here you’ve the thread from the pro audio engineer who’s looking to support fan edits

  1. it felt Star Wars like, especially the feeling of the intro text, at least for me. The choice of music for the intro (text) definitely draws me in. Did it build anticipation? Hard to tell but this could be just me as I already know too much about the clone wars in general. A set of fresh eyes would be helpful here.
    Production value was great.

  2. as to transitions: I think the change from the new Star Wars intro to the text didn’t work regarding the music. The slow soft music didn’t match the music from the new Star Wars intro. So my suggestion would be use another intro because I think the music for the text and feel for the series felt great. Or maybe there is some great fading in you could use?

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned, but there’s a gorgeous (but still imperfect) deepfake already up for THAT character at the end of The Rescue. Definitely should reach out to this person for a copy of their master file. The overall look, eye reflections and skin texture were vast improvements for me.

But damn I got serious rogue one vibes out of that Hallway scene.
Like father, like son. Ey? 😉

This concerned me a little bit - Luke goes through a fair amount of character growth in ROTJ learning not to become his father. I mean, they’re all droids here so it’s fine, but going forwards I don’t really want to see Luke acting like TCW/ROTS Anakin. I never delved too deeply into the old EU/Legends so I’m not attached to that version of Luke like many are; instead I always imagined he’d be quite diplomatic and spiritual, much like Qui-Gon, rather than just being another prequel-era Jedi General. That’s why I love the force projection in TLJ.

In Legends continuity he would have been at the height of his dark-side exploration at this point post-ROTJ (i-e- Dark Empire comic series), but I highly doubt they’ll go that route in the new canon. I haven’t played Battlefront II, but I know he’s exploring the galaxy searching for Jedi artifacts at least a couple of years post-ROTJ. Other than that I don’t think that period has been explored too much at all. At least not from Luke’s POV. I get the feeling that the next season, plus Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic might explore Luke’s story a bit more going forward, and then the books/comics will fill in the rest over the years.

As for his “hallway” moment, I didn’t get too much of a dark-side feel from it personally, that is apart from how he crushed that one droid at the very end. Apart from the obvious fan-service, and building up suspense for both the audience ad the characters on the bridge, I see it as being very similar to when f.ex. Yoda or Obi-Wan fought droids in TCW. It seems brutal, but they are just imperial droids after all. And he seemed quite calm and proper Jedi-like at the end of the scene, so I trust they’ll handle the character well going forward.

Just wanted to write something similar. Totally agree.

I hope I won’t be raining on anyone’s parade but that was… bad, right? I’ve really enjoyed this season but that really left a poor taste in my mouth. I thought the pacing was bizarre and that whole final sequence… Yikes.

I’m not against what they did in principle but good god. Would it kill them to recast a role or let an actor play his own age when the alternative is a straight up video game character?

I haven’t seen anyone else’s take on the episode yet so I really hope I’m not the only grump. I wanted to love it but damn.

Completely agree. That episode was bad. It somehow felt cheap too. very “fan film”. It had some good bits but i felt that this was all rushed, just to get to that “wow” ending. And the change in the music style in this ep felt so wrong with some of it being more like a 90’s hallmark film

I just hope everyone didn’t stop watching before the credits finished though. 😉

Kind of agree with you two too. Mostly vfx effects are a little odd and the T4a „Crash“scene…not well.
The Dubstep, I didn’t get it, why…

But showing Luke, oh man I loved it. Not so sure if it is completely cgi or just some stuntman deepfaked. It looked ok, way better than tarkins though.

After reading comments from one of the members in the blu-ray.com thread whose opinion I trust and usually agree with, I decided to give these discs a shot after all instead…

And there’s no way these are real 4K back-to-the-negative scans. No way.

Thanks for this review. Set aside the HDR, this is a real bummer for me. It seems I would do better if a upscale my 1080p Blu-ray’s/44rh1n´s TFotR to 4K myself and have more detail this way. Good I don’t have the skill set to implement HDR myself but for a nice sdr experience - there is madVR.

I am in full works still, Sorry for the long delays!

I will not scrap my original film structure! It works surprisingly well, and having tried to go back to its original TPM form just felt… well, boring to be honest. The original film is just poorly paced and the main character is not at all obvious anymore (Qui-Gon).

Wait will you do the other PT movies or just this one?

I have no idea if I will tackle them, though I do have ideas for EP II. Focusing more on the loss of Qui-Gon is one of them. The other is that the Kaminoians (rly don’t remember their names) do speak a foreign alien language as to make them more menacing as well as the plot more engaging. This way I can also better connect Dooku into the story. Coruscant would look less CGI and have less intense imagery.

Perhaps it would be an option for you to work together with The AlaskanSandman:?

I did a quick look at all the different pictures he posted on the first page and the cutlist, but It looks like he has set himself on a journey of a lot of work - and, that often leads to fatigue. I don’t think I have it in me to kinda re-do TPM to that visual magnitude he’s set himself.

I have enough doing my own visual and audio alterations to TAL than to set my mind on another task, but I think if someone would sometime take both our edits and combine them into something else could be quite neat.

I certainly can understand that:) Just thought it could be a worthwhile suggestion.
No doubt your color grade will be good.

If you are a fan of Batman Begins the Dark Cut and wanted something similar done in 4K, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Awesome news!
And for ANH, take your time, don’t rush it 😃 I think it’ll feel great regarding vader/anakin and Ben will fight each other again in the series. For sure it will be more dynamic than in the original ANH therefore you edit fits well. some would say your edit doesn’t stay true to the original trilogy but I’m fine with that. Never liked the vader/Ben fight in the original.
