Info Wanted: 2006 GOUT Full Screen DVDs?
Time

When you consider the crawl, that technically makes it a new version of the film. You have the 77 release and its 3 soundtracks, the 81 rerelease with the new crawl/flyover and the same soundtracks, the 85 home video release with a new soundtrack, the 1993 home video release with a new soundtrack, and the 2006 release with a restored 77 crawl/flyover. It fits with GL’s penchant for tinkering. It should have included the 77 stereo soundtrack. But we have fixed that with our fan release of the GOUT.

I have a hard time calling a release of a movie with a different sound mix a different version. At some point you’re getting a little petty. Are these Dolby and DTS mixes that we get on home releases the theatrical mixes, or do those have more tracks? (genuine question) would you consider a VHS tape a different version than the same movie on DVD because it’s mixed down to stereo? Is the Amazon Video release of TFA a different version of the film because it’s Dolby 5:1, not DTS?

Also, Shaw does look completely different without the Vader makeup. From a saga POV, I can see why George went with Hayden.

Yeah, the only other option would’ve been better prequel casting, but that would have been too much work.

Ha, true. I was watching an episode of Stranger Things and all I could think about was how George couldn’t find one good kid actor and somehow this show found four.

I thought using Jason Bourne was just unfair. That’s literally a standalone movie about one single character. Rogue One was lacking in character development but Chris asking to see her grow up to her current age was ridiculous. We should have had a few flashbacks and flesh out her relationship with Saw more but a lot of Chris’s desires would require a 4 hr running time.

Well maybe if LF would wisen up and do what Warner did to Harry Potter and turn a spinoff movie into a five-part movie franchise of it’s own, we could explore those stories 😛

Ugh God no. Except maybe after the sequel trilogy they could do an old republic trilogy. ALL new characters, ALL new story that is wide in scale. But for now I want standalone stories.

Uh, sarcasm. What they’re doing with Fantastic Beasts is really stupid, especially considering what a stinker the first installment is.

I don’t think it’s the quality of the scan we need to worry about, but the mastering. Without GL at the helm of the effort, I think we’ll at least get natural looking colors. Not necessarily perfectly true to the theatrical experience (though that would be great I guess), but at least natural looking, unlike ANH on BD. And that’s really all I care about: that the color timing looks natural and doesn’t distract from the rest of the viewing experience.

Everyone is making good points right now regarding TPM vs AOTC, on both sides. Which just goes to show there is no winner in that battle, only less of a loser.

TPM is my favorite prequel but that’s saying barely anything.

Oh… you used the word “favorite” with a Prequel. Are you ill?

Oh…are you a doctor?

Well, we know he’s not a grammarian. So, possibly.

Has everyone decided where they are going to get the Rogue One blu-ray/DVD? Anyone going for an exclusive? I’m most likely getting the Steelbook.

Yeah I dunno. None of them stand out to me, and when I upgraded to the Blu-ray of all the star wars I got the steelbook because I couldn’t stand the saga case and artwork (young Ani on the cover? No thanks). So with no other Strong reason to choose, it’s probably going to be another steelbook.

on second thought, if i pre-order the standard bluray set on target today, i get a 5 dollar target gift card. that makes it the best price by far. (as far as i can tell, this offer ends at midnight tonight.)

JEDIT: nevermind, that gift card barely cancels out the required shipping and handling fees (no in store pickup for pre-order).

I’m trying to figure out why Amazon still doesn’t have any pre-order inventory. I have Prime so that’s definitely the most affordable and convenient option for me. But I’m probably not going to watch it for a month anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.

Maybe there will be a new SE where Vader storms the Blockade Runner instead of sending in his troops first. You know, to match that stupid Rogue One ending movie.

This is getting out of hand. Now, there are two three of them.

Three of what?

Alderaan + Mala + You = 3 Rogue One detractors

Specifically, I’m referring to people who thread-crap about How stupid and awful Rogue One is.

I’m probably reading way too much into this, but I was over at blu-ray.com just now and noticed the “best deals” at the top of the page has the complete saga set listed for $58.49. That’s the lowest I can remember any retailer selling it for in quite a long time, maybe ever.

We’re less than three weeks away from this celebration panel. If an announcement is imminent, maybe they’re trying to clear out inventory before people stop buying it altogether and start saving their money for the new set?

If Best Buy knows about it, you think that information wouldn’t have leaked already? C’mon…

The only reason the price was lowered was to tie in to Rogue One.

Imagine this information is in supply chains months in advance. Doesn’t mean your average BB warehouse and salesperson knows about it.
