I liked it.

Unfortunately it needs to. Here’s hoping that something at least as engaging replaces it in short order. I enjoy have a small dose of new Star Wars every couple weeks.

Ren sticks his saber through Luke and realizes he’s an apparition. Rick Olie: “you catch on pretty quick.”

Edit: maybe have him pull it in and out a few times.

But does the toy unicorn on its own tell us for sure it has something to do with Deckard? He has the dream about unicorns, and there’s that toy, and the origami. Without the dream, is the unicorn tied explicitly to Deckard?

So far as we knew in ANH he had a strong suspicion. It’s a bit more of that now with the context of RO.

I didn’t even realize Luke wasn’t there until we saw him on Ach-To in my first viewing. You’re able to be fooled by that scene because you’re invested in his character in that moment. Very nicely done.

Ditto. I noticed he looked odd, but I never figured out it was a projection until the saber goes right through him. The first shot of him levitating was incredibly powerful.

People on this site are the only ones I’ve ever seen that claim to be offended by recompositing the original effects. I don’t think they’re bothered by the TNG blurays though.

The question is, if all the SEs had done was recomp the effects, and had this become the only available version of the films, would this website exist? I bet not. I think the nature of the situation and the fact that we’ve been forced to create these projects has created radicals.

Digital recomping could reduce grain. If I understand the process correctly, in optical effects composition, certain elements will be processed more times than others, leading to variation in grain levels and generational loss within frames. Digitally, you just scan and overlay.

Getting back into Justified. The first half of the first season was hit or miss and I gradually gave up on it, but the second half was great. Glad I gave it a second chance.

I love the flickering, pale, imperfect lightsabers in Star Wars.

Edit: Also, interesting you mentioned Mike. He mentions in one is his videos (I think his restoration of the Death Star approach), that his work approximates what recompositing would accomplish, noting that that would be ideal. Even a purist like Mike doesn’t shy away from improving upon the O-neg so long as the original photographic elements aren’t altered.

Whatever you want to call it, it sure would have been nice if had used it on the Emperor in ROTJ after Yoda died.

Please point me to the scene in the Emperors throne room where there were storm clouds over head so we could have had the same lightning and then i’d agree with you.

He needs storm clouds? That is never explained. What if in a future movie a force user does it without storm clouds, then can I ask why force ghost Yoda doesn’t zap the Emperor in ROTJ?

The point is that we can draw these inferences about what we did see. We don’t need to exactly pin it down. Does the idea that Yoda could influence the path of lightning bother you?

no. However if it would have been convenient to influence the path of lightning at some point in the OT and he didn’t, that would bother me.

Lets say in some future movie, force users can force transport themselves wherever they want. Now, wouldn’t you then question why Obiwan didn’t do this in TPM and get past the shield in the Maul fight?

As others have said, we can infer that Yoda simply affected the path of the lightning. If Yoda did show up in Snoke’s thrown room and start pulling lightning down…well then I’d agree with you. But what actually happened in this film was far more constrained than that.

Star Wars never explicitly “says” you need to push the button on a saber to ignite the blade. But do you doubt that’s how it works, given that’s what we’re shown?

You’re unhappy ghost Yoda conjured up lightening but never did/could before. You ask for an explanation from the movie. We give it to you. You say that’s dumb. It’s the force. He shouldn’t need existing clouds. You just came full circle. Just try to work through the logic.
