Considering saber colors were always a production decision in the OT, I’m not going to put much thought into it. As far as Sith having red sabers that are red for any reason besides that they look badass, the OT is pretty clear that the Sith don’t use them by default; Vader only carries one (and Ren I would extrapolate) because he’s a fallen Jedi.

What a coincidence, I also grabbed a Criterion Blu-ray yesterday.
Also got the soundtrack to Amadeus, and Blu-rays of All About Eve, Christine, and Malcolm X. All bought on gift card money accumulated over the past two years.

The data on Scarif was stored on tape. Ostensibly, the Empire doesn’t know precisely what kind of media the rebels “burned” the stolen plans to.
I think the plan was to not have to chase and board the Tantive. As for it being out of character… Desperate times call for desperate measures, perhaps. He does fly a fighter into a dogfight in ANH, does he not?
I think it would’ve been perfect for Vader’s one and only appearance in RO to have been him emerging from the shadows and mercilessly killing a dozen rebels.
