Lost In Space (2018)

I enjoyed it. I rolled my eyes at the frequent “emergencies” designed to create action/tension, but overall it was solid. It was cast well, the effects were seamless for the most part (the physical sets were great), I liked the Robinson family dynamic, and Dr. Smith came across as a genuine sociopath.

couple of eye roll moments, yes. But I actually enjoyed some of the cheese. Would we have gotten to see them escape from a submerged humvee using a helium balloon if he hadn’t stupidly jumped back into a humvee sinking in tar???

well, i think that the “so this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause” moment in RotS is absolutely amazing, for example.

A scene carried basically 80% by John Williams. It’s good, except it feels to me very un-Star Wars.

Yes. That scene felt incomplete. I wished we had more background on the origins of the parliamentary procedures.

I guess if you grew up with the PT I can see why that would “feel like Star Wars” because it was part of what initially defined Star Wars to you.

Basically. It’s funny, though, when I was younger, I liked the prequels fine. They weren’t my favorite SW movies, but I enjoyed watching them all the same, and I associated them with Star Wars. Last time I watched them (I think it was in advance of TFA), though, they fell completely flat. I always did release order, and the second half of the marathon was nothing like the first. They just didn’t feel like SW anymore.

Haven’t watched a prequel since. Though I’ll probably watch TPM again some day.

Lowry Digital Images hasn’t existed for ages now, since 2010 I think?
I do know that Disney did get a print when making Rogue One, they wanted it as reference to make sure they matched the look of the original Star Wars. It may have come from the LoC.
If the request was more recent than Rogue One, it might be for some other purpose though, which would be interesting.

This story made the rounds before RO was released. Makes sense then. Though it’s hard to believe Lucasfilm doesn’t have prints on hand or something else better quality than the copyright deposit.

My older sister is my favorite person on the planet, by far.

My older sister and I are friendly, but I do not count her as a “friend”. A close acquaintance, maybe. She watches my kiddo sometimes, and we can have a reasonable conversation about random things (in a group, say at a family party). However, she and I don’t have any similar interests but one, never hang out for any particular reason, and we don’t seek out each other’s opinion on really anything.

You let close acquaintances watch your kiddo?

Maybe he only considers his kid to be a close acquaintance.

In before “actually, the real Star Wars day is May 25”

Well personally I do think the May 4th thing is both recent and dumb, but I don’t really care either way.

We are going to an event this weekend where our daughters are going to dress up for the first time (matching Scavenger Rey’s) so that’s cool.

Now there are two of them!

One random girl with unexplained force abilities I could maybe understand. But two!? This is getting out of hand!
