Movie ratings were different back then though. Even Jaws was a PG.

Rocky (1976). Features intense makeout scene. PG.
Logan’s Run (1976). Features open female nudity and overt creepiness. PG.
Temple of Doom (1984). Features a guy’s heart being ripped out of his chest. PG.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Harmless action movie. PG-13.

Don’t forget TFA PG-13. it’s as if death itself merits a mature audience these days.

Uh, who cares? We know that there are alien species that have incredibly long lifespans (Chewbacca?), so it’s not “unrealistic” by the parameters of this fictional universe that he could still be flying. Also, we have no idea how much confrontation there has been by way of dogfighting between the various iterations of Empire and Rebellion since the death of the Emperor, so maybe he hasn’t been in that many dogfights since Endor. And maybe he’s a really good pilot.

And I repeat, who cares?

Greedo: "Han shot first."
Time

EDIT: Here is the original article:
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/greedo-actor-star-wars-restore-han-solo-shooting-article-1.2623730

Mod Edit: As the NYDailyNews article linked above (from May 4th 2016) is not available to many outside the US, it has been copied and pasted below…

'EXCLUSIVE: Greedo actor wants ‘Star Wars’ to restore Han Solo shooting first scene: ‘It does give him a little more glory’'

'Han Solo shot first — as Greedo himself knows, since he was an eyewitness.

Actor Paul Blake, who played the doomed Rodian bounty hunter in the original “Star Wars” confirms what fans of a certain age know in their hearts — in spite of creator George Lucas’s subsequent fiddling with the scene to make Han look more heroic.

"Of course, in it said it all in the original script, we played in the scene in English and at the end of the scene, it reads, ‘Han shoots the alien.’ " Blake told the Daily News. “It’s all it says and that’s what happened. It was very painful.”

Besides, having Greedo fire first and miss from across a table, as has been the case after the original release, is sort of embarrassing.

“He was a bit inept wasn’t he?” quips Blake. "He’s a worse shot than a Stormtrooper. I don’t think Jabba had him under a pension plan let’s put it that way.

“It would be lovely to see them go back to the original version, I much preferred it, I must say. And it does give it Greedo a little more glory if he’s just blown away.”

Blake is one of the character actors who stumbled on a role of a lifetime and is profiled in the new documentary, “Elstree 1976,” in theaters and on demand this Friday. The Jon Spira-directed film takes its name from the London-based studio and the year in which the iconic film was shot.

At the time, though, no one involved knew they were signing on for nerdy immortality — least of all Blake, who was prodded to try out by his acting buddy Anthony Daniels, already on board as C3PO.

“I show up the next day at Elstree Studios, early in the morning and I hadn’t had breakfast,” recalls Blake, now 67. "There was no one around except this one guy in the far corner, so I went up to him and asked ‘Oh hi, you couldn’t get me cup of coffee, could you?’

"So he very kindly went off and got me a cup of coffee. I said, ‘Do you know anything about this movie? I’m looking for a guy called George something or other.’

“And he said, ‘I’m George Lucas.’” adds Blake. "And that’s how I got the job. God knows how, because I made him fetch me a cup of coffee. "

He probably doomed poor Greedo right then and there, too.

“Actually, I’m ecstatic that such a tiny character got so much contrivance 40 years later,” says Blake.

And now with Disney’s purchase of the “Star Wars” franchise there’s always the chance of a Greedo standalone movie where the Rodian warrior will finally get his chance to … eh, who are we kidding?

“Have you seen his eyes? He’s myopic and short sighted at the same time,” jokes Blake. “I mean the poor guy never stood a chance. It was the wrong career choice when the guy decided to be an assassin. I think flower arranger would have been better. Or maybe short order cook.”

So maybe a standalone film that’s more art-house drama than rousing adventure?

“I can see him standing behind Jabba with a huge vase and maybe a few geranniums,” says Blake. “Hey, if Disney is listening to this, it’s a whole different kind of film.”’

“Cliegg’s Leg: A Star Wars Story”

George Lucas named as director. C3PO and Cliegg fall into a droid factory and have their legs swapped. R2D2, no longer recognizing his friend, gets lonely and loses the will to live. R2D2 digitally replaced in SE #4 with a droideka who had a moral crisis and defected from the Neimoidian army during the battle of Naboo.

Looks are purely subjective, there’s no objectivity about it.

Well… No.
Yes I get the whole “personal taste” argument and while I agree that what you personally like is subjective, there is objective quality.

This is obviously a drastic example/hypothetical, but let’s say two movies come out and they both have a scene of a teacher at their desk, an apple at the foreground and clearly the main focus.
One film has a real, nice, shiny looking apple, and the second film literally just has a red splotch that looks like it was put in there using Microsoft Paint, with the intent of it resembling an apple.

One apple looks well on film, the other is a piece of shit.
You may think the second apple looks good personally, but that doesn’t mean it looks like a good apple in general.

You’re comparing apples (haha get it) and oranges here. IMO good quality modeling shot on 35mm looks way better than crappy 1080p unimaginative CGI.

Indeed, Emperor was in '04.
But let’s be honest, the original Emperor in ESB is absolutely shocking, and not in a good way.

But at least it is interesting. They did such a shitty job shoehorning McDiarmid in there. If they went through trouble to do proper makeup and costume, that plus perhaps the windows on Bespin and a better executed re-done wampa sequence could have been a really good Director’s Cut (which the '97 version of Empire is more so than the other two, which are much more radical), if the original were available to watch beside it.

I think Adywan gave us the best of both worlds. Shame he could do it better than the professionals.

Never watched Adywan’s versions. This is more or less what I said above, though I wish the skin were darkened/greener/yellower as it was both in the original ESB and in ROTJ.

It could be considered, though, the beginning of the revisionist saga that culminated in Lucas stating Star Wars was the tragedy of Darth Vader.

What is Star Wars, then?

Oh, I don’t know, maybe classic story of good versus evil following protagonists Luke, Leia and Han.
If you think the OT is about Darth Vader, you’re smoking something.

I think the ESB SE ('97) is a tad better than the theatrical though, minus some wonky CGI.

I’m kind of with you on this, but even if the 97 was perfect, I would prefer the original. The only issues I have with it content wise are Luke’s scream and removing “Bring my shuttle” and its associated hoopla.

Better how? Like by going through the trouble to supposedly make the emperor consistent with ROTJ yet actually make him look and dress utterly differently with a voice distinctly different from that in ROTJ? If they felt compelled to “fix” that they should have put in the effort to make it consistent with ROTJ instead of just using ROTS costumes and makeup.
