EDIT: Then again, I think that this entire forum is overly concerned with color correction. I think I might be in the minority there, though.

I’m with you.

Yeah, what kind of loser obsesses over the exact hue of the Death Star control panel lights?
I mean really, nobody cares!

I care about obvious shit like Hoth being blue or Vader’s lightsaber being pink, but half the time I see before and after pics here and they look nearly identical.

The sky being 0.02% too blue in one shot does not bother me in the slightest.

Yup

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

Here’s something weird.

New soundtracks on iTunes, copyright Lucasfilm 2017. Have artwork that matches the digital movie download art, but are OUT track listings:

Star Wars
Empire
Jedi

Also note they use the new preferred naming conventions, dropping the episode number from the title.

iTunes also offers the OUT soundtracks with original art, but they are copyright '77, '80, and '04 (weird, I know)

Edit: also, no mention of Sony in the copyright garble as is the case with the older versions.
Edit2: there are also new versions for the PT, but with the same track listing, just different art. Both remain available on iTunes.

A thought just occurred to me. If the OOT is released, would they put the “Legends” banner on it and stick with the SE’s as canon?

Is there anything in OUT that conflicts with “official” canon?

Besides, despite all the shit we’ve endured, I’d trust Lucasfilm not to tarnish their masterpieces with silly banners like that.

Sony stated why they didn’t use the newly remastered mixes for the CD release that coincided with the digital collection. They said and I paraphrase “Younger generations grew up on the SE scores so we decided to use the SE mixes for the CD release” youtube.com/watch?v=YuH7uznb2bU. But now I guess they decided to release the original soundtracks for streaming. I think this is a sign of cool things to come bois

I think that the original versions of the movies are restored in 4K and will be released sometime this year. Possibly an announcement at Star Wars Celebration.

Disney would be so smart to live stream a huge mystery panel where they unveil new blu-rays with updated special features, bonus commentaries, beautiful original artwork and most of all…the unaltered original Star Wars trilogy remastered in beautiful 4K. Not to mention if they made a new special edition with the offensive SE elements removed and even better CGI and models used to update matte paintings and aged effects. They could preview footage, have a panel afterwards speak about the restoration process and what it means to fans. And then just so it’s all worth it, plop on a 150 dollar price tag for the full set in its glory. And hell yah I would pay for something like that.

Please Disney…read this post and follow exactly as I instructed. You will make so much damn money and you will make us fans so damn happy.

It wouldn’t cost that much. The Complete Saga didn’t cost that much. I’d expect something in the 50-70 dollar retail range.

From everything I’ve heard from a variety of people that I think are reliable, I think it’ll happen in 2017. If it doesn’t happen this year then I give up.

That is if they don’t force us to buy the PT to get the special features as they did last time around.

They were released on vinyl with original artwork.

I know. It’s just that my entire music collection is on CD. It’s the medium I grew up with.

Right, I understand. It shows that they think of the OOT as a “classic” item in their catalogue as opposed to the SE being more mainstream.

EDIT: That didn’t stop them from releasing them both on iTunes though.

Maybe the 40th anniversary home media release of the OT will be special editions on UHD BD and OUT on 8mm tape.

Edit : I understand vinyl is a high fidelity medium despite its age. Maybe the OUT will only be available on 35mm then.

the 2016 iTunes digital remasters

what are you talking about?

Original soundtracks

Ah. Was hoping we’d see them on CD-Rom sooner or later. Something I’d like to own on hard media. Hope they are eventually released individually with original art so I don’t have to waste dough on the prequel tracks.

Why Doesn't the Resistance have Tie Fighters in The Fore Awakens?
Time

Also I think important to note that the tie fit in with the “disposable infantry” mentality of the Empire. They seemed pretty easy to shoot down(did once read they were unshielded?) and had no ability to travel long range, so if left behind will do die.

Would hope the new Republic values their fighters’ lives more than that.

For me, it has to be Jedi Rocks. Having watched the 2004 DVDs as a child, nothing particularly is too egregious, but every time Jedi Rocks comes on while I’m watching with my family, I feel really uncomfortable. It’s just stupid. They should at least add subtitles.

Before despecialized, I’d be embarrassed at the point of Jedi Rocks if I was showing the trilogy to someone who wasn’t a “fan.” There are worse changes, but this one illicits a unique response for me.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Watched ROTJ despecialized today with my sister. She’s probably seen the BD version 2 or 3 times. She knew we were watching a different version, but she is not familiar with the specific changes and probably didn’t notice any of them except maybe Lapki Nek (how could you not?). But as the credits role she asks “wait, I never heard Vader say ‘nooooo.’” I told her it was a change, and she’s like, “that’s stupid.”

Goes to show what a stupid and, really, damaging change it was. A) she recognized its absence having only watched a couple times and not in a couple years. And B) not necessarily being a huge SW fan, instantly understood how awful that line is and how it degrades from the gravity of the moment.

If you know something to be fake, your brain generates any number of reasons that it looks fake, even if they aren’t true or not noticeable to the average viewer.

I thought some of the Tarkin stuff was seamless, despite knowing it to be CG. If motion capture got good enough to capture the micromovements of facial muscles, I would feel a lot better about an actor using a ‘digital likeness’ of another actor (provided the actor or their estate were in agreement). In this case, the actor wearing the digital likeness would be translating much of their performance to the screen, even more than an actor with layers of prosthetics on their face.

Yeah, it’s like when someone says you and your siblings look alike, but you don’t think so. They’re looking for similarities, and you’re scrutinizing differences.
