4K restoration on Star Wars

I appreciate all the citations posted thus far, but can someone link me to where I can find info on Disney requesting an archival print of Star Wars from the Library of Congress?

LOC made a scan. I think the “at the request of lucasfilm” is based on insider info from one forum or another.

The exchange between the two is amazing and I would have loved to see Krennic try to bring Galen to his side of thinking in a couple of flashback scenes. This also could have given the film more time to develop Galen as a character so that his death would be more impactful.

Definitely recommend Catalyst, Krennic is the best part of the book.

Never read a Star Wars novel, except 1/4 of Plaguies which I gave up on. But I might pick this up once it’s out in paperback.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Sony finally lost the license and Disney records put them out as soon as they could so they could get that money. Nothing remotely pertaining to the release of the OOT here.

Is it not significant which version they chose to put out? As far as I can tell, there is no © Lucasfilm version of the SE soundtrack just released.

Maybe, but I hope that the OUT won’t be only available on 4K UHD discs. I don’t have a player.

I wouldn’t expect any feature content to be available exclusively on UHD.

I don’t have a player either, but I would buy a BD/UHD combo pack over a BD-only or BD/DVD pack in a heartbeat to future proof it in case LF decides to fuck us over again.

Probably jumping the gun here, but if LF/2oth C. Fox do indeed plan on a home video release of the OT this year (edit: OUT or otherwise–the latter would be valuable for preservation efforts), what are the chances it will be available in the UHD BD format? I know Disney doesn’t yet support the format, but Fox seems to be pushing it pretty hard (especially with the sci-fi/action genre). As this would be a “distributed by 2oth C. Fox” release, might we see it released in 4K for home media?

EDIT: Then again, I think that this entire forum is overly concerned with color correction. I think I might be in the minority there, though.

I’m with you.

Yeah, what kind of loser obsesses over the exact hue of the Death Star control panel lights?
I mean really, nobody cares!

I care about obvious shit like Hoth being blue or Vader’s lightsaber being pink, but half the time I see before and after pics here and they look nearly identical.

The sky being 0.02% too blue in one shot does not bother me in the slightest.

Yup

Here’s something weird.

New soundtracks on iTunes, copyright Lucasfilm 2017. Have artwork that matches the digital movie download art, but are OUT track listings:

Star Wars
Empire
Jedi

Also note they use the new preferred naming conventions, dropping the episode number from the title.

iTunes also offers the OUT soundtracks with original art, but they are copyright '77, '80, and '04 (weird, I know)

Edit: also, no mention of Sony in the copyright garble as is the case with the older versions.
Edit2: there are also new versions for the PT, but with the same track listing, just different art. Both remain available on iTunes.

A thought just occurred to me. If the OOT is released, would they put the “Legends” banner on it and stick with the SE’s as canon?

Is there anything in OUT that conflicts with “official” canon?

Besides, despite all the shit we’ve endured, I’d trust Lucasfilm not to tarnish their masterpieces with silly banners like that.

Sony stated why they didn’t use the newly remastered mixes for the CD release that coincided with the digital collection. They said and I paraphrase “Younger generations grew up on the SE scores so we decided to use the SE mixes for the CD release” youtube.com/watch?v=YuH7uznb2bU. But now I guess they decided to release the original soundtracks for streaming. I think this is a sign of cool things to come bois

I think that the original versions of the movies are restored in 4K and will be released sometime this year. Possibly an announcement at Star Wars Celebration.

Disney would be so smart to live stream a huge mystery panel where they unveil new blu-rays with updated special features, bonus commentaries, beautiful original artwork and most of all…the unaltered original Star Wars trilogy remastered in beautiful 4K. Not to mention if they made a new special edition with the offensive SE elements removed and even better CGI and models used to update matte paintings and aged effects. They could preview footage, have a panel afterwards speak about the restoration process and what it means to fans. And then just so it’s all worth it, plop on a 150 dollar price tag for the full set in its glory. And hell yah I would pay for something like that.

Please Disney…read this post and follow exactly as I instructed. You will make so much damn money and you will make us fans so damn happy.

It wouldn’t cost that much. The Complete Saga didn’t cost that much. I’d expect something in the 50-70 dollar retail range.

From everything I’ve heard from a variety of people that I think are reliable, I think it’ll happen in 2017. If it doesn’t happen this year then I give up.

That is if they don’t force us to buy the PT to get the special features as they did last time around.
