I was a true believer in the Zune and felt it put the iPod to shame.

why did you think it was better than the ipod?

All around, I liked the interface better. It had a built in FM radio, which was kind of nice (maybe the new iPods have those too now, I don't know). Had Wi-Fi, which was cool. You could actually share music on it, so if someone else were connected to the same network as me, they could copy shared songs from my Zune to theirs. To avoid copyright infringement, these downloaded tracks are automatically deleted 24 hours later, but it is still really cool to be able to share your music like that. A more modern version of loaning a CD to a friend.

Apple had been doing the same ol' same ol' with the iPod for several years when the Zune finally came along and went the extra mile adding all sorts of cool extra features that the iPod never dreamed about. Since then, Apple has had to step it up to make the iPod more interesting in response. Made for a better competitive market, but then MS kind of dropped the ball by excluding a portion of their consumers by not adding Mac support. I use an older iPod now and have no temptation to buy a more modern one, but I loved my Zune so much that if they had added Mac support I wouldn't have hesitated to run out and buy one of those Zune HDs when they were released. Every time I see one I still feel a pang of temptation, until I think about all that hassle of mucking around with PC emulators I'd have to go through.

I think MS did much the same thing with the video game market through the Xbox. They really raised the bar and brought things to a whole new level, making both Sony and Nintendo step up accordingly. Sony with a ridiculously over powered console, and Nintendo with some very creative new innovations. But much like with the Zune, once MS raised the bar and proved how awesome they could be, they did precious little to hold their position. So many little things could have been done to make the 360 so much better, but MS seems more than content to leave good enough alone. Only problem is, in a competitive market, good enough is never enough.

When you think about it, it is actually really amazing MS can break into well established markets they have never been a part of (MP3 players, video game consoles), and totally dominate them in a single move. As amazing as it is, it is equally as annoying that they seem to feel that once they have "proved" themselves, no further effort is needed.

No, it doesn't work on Apple and there are no plans to ever make it work on Apple.

Did Apple ever do that? I thought the iPod was launched Windows compatible? Since the majority of people are MS users, Apple would be foolish to release any of their products as Apple exclusive. But MS on the other hand, they don't feel they have to be bothered with catering to Mac users and I doubt they lose to many sells on account of this. Still annoying though, I was a true believer in the Zune and felt it put the iPod to shame. But I am also a hug fan of Macs and dislike Windows. Sad to see such a great piece of technology be so useless to me thanks to something as simple as cross-compatibility. Microsoft has some really great stuff, like the Zune and the Xbox, but they always seems to screw them up and make them half as good as they could be with stupid little things like that.

Jedi Temple34 is now ignoring me. Interesting, I have no memories of interacting with this individual.

You see C3PX, I'm not going to enter a diplomatic debate for 3 weeks across many threads to repeat it and to justify my point of view... I will only say it once:

DARTH SOLO, you're pretty boring. And it's nothing to tell you this that way. I know you understand what I mean.

I have no idea what the hell you are on about now, so I am just going to ignore you and let it slide. I have no idea if you are taking an honest crack at Darth Solo for whatever reason, or if you two are just joking with each other.

Game Gear was pure crap. Bought one because everyone was on about how it had color and was better and more advanced than the GameBoy in every way. Sure, the images on the screen looked pretty but the games were insanely short and it used 6 AA batteries that it drained in no time. Not to mention it would get so hot it would sometimes burn your thumb through the d-pad. Great system that Game Gear. Not six months later I traded it in, games and all, and bought myself a limited edition ice blue GameBoy Pocket with Link's Awakening. The game took me months to beat, the 2 AAA batteries lasted nearly forever in the thing, it never burnt my fingers, and it was small enough to fit in my pocket and as such it went pretty much everywhere with me.

That taught me a good lesson about looks not being everything at a decently young age. Game Gear looked extremely sexy, but treated you like crap and any adventures were over before you could even begin to enjoy them. GameBoy was cute enough, even though it looked a little basic with its dot matrix display, but was ready and willing to give you a wild and fulfilling experience that wouldn't stop... You know, if its name didn't have the word "boy" in it, I'd be a little more comfortable with this analogy...

So... Because someone appears to you as an asshole you feel the need to work on being one yourself about that ?... Is that jealousy ?

Pffff.

You're not really helping things, ABC. No it isn't jealousy. I may very well be being an asshole, and if that is the case I am not going to pretend I am not.

Sorry if you think I am having a bad attitude about this whole thing, ABC. I am trying to stay as positive about it as possible. I would have liked to have seen everything pass by this time, but I felt a need to address some of the things Bingowings was suggesting I was doing, which I am not.

Yes you were wrong because by labeling it spam (even if that's how you saw it) instantly put people who may have been able and willing to moderate their behaviour and even back you up in a contrary stance.

Because I called it spam (which means an irrelevant post, a pretty non-offensive accusation if you ask me), you felt the need to be a massive asshole? Impressive stuff Bingowings, very impressive. I didn't resort to name calling, I said you were being an ass, and you were.

Anyway, I'm done with this conversation, your high and mighty can do no wrong attitude is getting old. To use a Warbism, we will just have to agree to disagree.

As for the pictures thing if you had framed you initial request in practical terms it may have got a better response ('politics is mostly a wordy subject, the pictures are slowing my page loading times could you please post less...that sort of thing').

You are very right. I don't know what was wrong with me, I was clearly out of line when I said:

Okay, so seriously, all this spam is getting pretty old. Makes it a pain to just browse the thread and read posts. Since EVERY SINGLE other off-topic thread has become a spam feast, could we maybe consider toning it down a little?

So, sounds like I did everything just right except for failing to specify that one of the reasons it was making the thread a pain to browse was the bog down it was causing?

if it had been phrased that way I would probably have been lending you gentle support (there would be no way of telling if my support would have helped but it would probably have been there).

Well, considering YOU (not Fink or anyone else) were the one who decided to be an ass about it and give me and the others asking for the tone down a hard time, I'd say there is most definitely a way of telling it would have helped. Would have helped so much, in fact, that there wouldn't have even been an issue at all.

As it is much larger pictures (sometimes too big for the site format to support) are frequently posted on the Politics thread but they go unnoticed because they are deemed 'seriously pertinent' and not 'just jokes' which are part of any political discussion indeed part of politics in practice.

The "larger pictures frequently posted in the Politics thread that go unnoticed" are not typically a problem for my internet connection, because they are not every other post like the ice cream picture fiasco, and usually I am on a faster connection than I was on that day.

I don't have the time to knock on everyone's door and point out the mess and I would probably become very unpopular if I tried which may have the opposite effect to what I was attempting to do.

Your analogy doesn't really fit, and that wasn't what I was doing. "Live and let die" is all well and good, I am a fan of that philosophy. The only thing I would have ever said about anything was politely asking that we tone down the pictures in the politics thread because it was bogging down my internet and becoming overwhelmingly distracting. Fink wasn't even an issue in that situation, he was great about it and took no offense.

What I did in this thread was not me telling someone I think they should behave more like me (i.e. knocking on the door and asking people to pick up liter), in this case someone was treating another forum member in a way that I felt was unjust, so I stood up. A more appropriate analogy might be me witnessing someone knocking on the door of another and telling them not to liter (make pointless redundant complaint posts) while mocking them (he can go VanDerBeek), and I run over to them and state that I find that behavior troubling.

Suggesting that I am chasing Fink around from thread to thread ragging on him makes you sound more than a little bit like crazy ol' Vaderisnohayden. If I were doing that I would be going into all those SOS threads and causing a fuss, but I am not because I really don't care about what goes on in them. But when I see a thread by Skyjedi, who I find interesting, and click on one of his threads only to find it instantaneously derailed because someone else deemed it irrelevant, that irritates me.

In the other case, someone stated their opinion on things, and since I actually agreed with them I decided to say so.

I suppose the fact that I gave my honest opinion on fan edits which turned out to offend Fink can be used as further evidence that I am out to get him and "pushing my weight around".

As for "making voices about leaving", it wasn't a threat. I was having a bad day, I came to the forum to relax and found every single thread full of shit. It got to me, and I was seriously fed up with it all and was thinking about just giving it up. I didn't leave because I realized how many posters there are here who I really care about, and decided they were worth wading knee deep in shit to continue posting with (and yes, I include Fink in this).

Leaving, making voices about leaving, throwing your weight around, chasing people from thread to thread making snide comments, will only serve to be an example of that behavior (I'm sure that's not the sort of forum you or the majority of us want to read either) and that may also serve as an example to others.

Are you saying that is what I have been doing?

Okay, so that new Bioshock 2 DLC is EXACTLY what DLC should be!

So often DLC seems like stuff that should be included with the game in the first place. Like the previous BS2 DLC, the stupid Protector Trials. Or the Mercenaries mode on Resident Evil 5. So much DLC is just simple crap to add reply value, which is something traditional tacked onto the game at release.

Bioshock 2's Minerva's Den DLC feels like a good old fashioned expansion pack, and totally worth paying for. Adds several hours of game play, and honestly, the storyline was awesome. I really enjoyed it. The actual game's story line kind of bored me, but the story in this DLC really held my attention.

R-Type was really hard. I must have been level 5, no more.

But worst:

Xain'd Sleena

Haha! Best post ever! I feel like I have just had a hand shoved in my face, but it was so unbelievable well done, I can't help but be extremely amused by it.

Just waiting for my boy Xhonzi, once he come back this thread will be ours again!... but until then...

Pac-Man and Galaga were always more of my thing. Used to really like Space Invaders, but now that it comes down to it, I am not sure why. There were far more creative games contemporary to it. Robotron was another winner.

PomPom games has made some really fantastic remakes of Defender and Robotron, called Space Tripper and Mutant Storm, respectively.

Hmm, looking at the site, it looks like Space Tripper has now been updated and renamed Astro Tripper. I wonder if that had anything to do with the fact that if you say Space Tripper out loud it sounds dangerously like Space Stripper; I have gotten funny looks when recommending the game on more than one occasion on account of that auditory oddity.

So you are suggesting that I may have some deeper vendetta against Fink of which I am likely unaware?

I seriously just didn't like the way he treated Sky, so I spoke up. I have behaved in much the same way for other members here as well. Most recently Warb and ABC. If someone thought I were treating someone else unfairly, I really hope they would speak up and tell me to cool it.

I have been a dick to other members myself, and really regretted it. There was one member I always really liked, we got into a disagreement, and it ended with him leaving. I really regret that and I wish someone would have called me out and told me to lay off.

I really like Fink, and even though I have recently complained about his antics, I actually appreciate them and am not out to get him.
