Virtual PC was originally designed to run Windows on Mac, but no, it does not work the other way around. I used basilisk and Window 2k (I think), as soon as Win2k loaded the first thing it did was run basilisk with the desired OS. I had Win2k running bare bones so as many resources as possible could be used on the emulation. Not as good as a Mac, but it was the best I could do. And it allowed me to spend precious hours playing Escape Velocity: Override, oh what wonders Windows users missed out on with that game... *day dreams of joining the E.U. and becoming a fighter pilot and defending the galaxy.. or maybe becoming a pirate...*

That sounds interesting...

I once collected OSs, it was an odd hobby, I even had a computer with a boot menu and as many OSs as I could get on it. I had windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, OS 7, OS 8, and OS 9 all on the same system. The computer was just a tinkering machine and was pretty much rendered useless for any serious work, one change of something in one OS would often totally screw up another. Later I discovered Virtual PC for Windows, which was great because then I could add Windows 3.1 (a personal favorite, since it was on my first PC), ultimately Virtual PC ruined this pastime of mine because you could load as many OSs into it you as you wanted and it was no longer a challenge. I still have my OS collection though.

It is too hard to give only one per system.

NES - Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda
SNES - A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country (Chronotrigger and maybe Super Mario RPG but RPGs are not for everyone, and Mario RPG came out when the spotlight was no longer focused on the SNES and the N64 was already in full swing, plus it was psychotically expensive for an SNES game.)
N64 - Super Smash Bros., Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye
Gamecube -
Wii -
GB - Tetris, Link's Awakening, (and for younger kids, the first two Pokemon games really are good introductions into the wonderful world of turn based rpgs, unfortunately Nintendo's over marketing has ruined what would have been a forgettable, quaint, and eccentric little game by beating us all over the head with it and destroying its reputation making it something to be loathed by anyone over the age of 11. In another universe, one where Pikachu was just one out of 150 like in the original game, this might have been considered a must have.)

Strangely our society dictates what maturity level a thirteen year old has. I have been around, I have lived and studied abroad for many years. Also anthropology was one of my fields of study in university, I didn't pursue it all the way through and have no degree in it, but I have taken more than my fair share of anthropological courses. In cultures that do practice marrying their daughters off at thirteen, you would be impressed how mature of a thirteen year old they are. I do not believe there is a set time in a humans life when he or she truly becomes and adult, but that they become adults once they are treated as an adult. In America a thirteen year old has very few responsibilities, in a culture that would have her married as a teenager you can bet she is given far more responsibilities than the typically thirteen year old any of us would be likely to meet here in the western world. You also mentioned the oddity of arranged marriages, I once though exactly as you on the subject, but after studying different cultures I have concluded that it is just that merely different. If you look at the divorce rate in the western world and compare it to the divorce rate in places with arranged marriages you are sure to find an extreme difference. You could argue that this is for several reasons, one of which being the woman does not have the option to separate from her husband. I agree that this is likely a large factor in the lower percentage of failed marriages, but I believe there is more to it than that. I have read many articles of male Indian immigrants returning home so that they can marry a woman their parents choose for them. To them it is just normal, and in most cases it not a matter of sending some poor girl off to get married to some jerk who will own her for the rest of her life. A lot more care and delicacy is taken by both families to find suitable mates for their children. Though this is never portrayed in Western movies. A common theme is the couple who fall in love but can't be married because she is betrothed to somebody else. This is not as realistic of a situation as you might think, but nonetheless has been known to happen on occasion.

Wait till you have kids of your own some day. You'll change your tune.

Whoa! I didn't see that post by Sean. If somebody ever touched my kids in that way I wouldn't hesitate to slit their throat, but not until after I shoved their own balls down it.

Lynch the hell out of 'em, it is a lot better than they deserve. I fail to see how that makes us as bad as them. They assault and molest a helpless child, and because they are treated badly for this we have become as bad as them? Even in the extreme case of a father murdering a man who molested his little boy, how does that make the father as bad as the molester? The molester being an adult with the ability to fight back and defend himself, and the child having been helpless and innocent and preyed upon for that very reason, I fail to see what makes the father so evil for having an emotional reaction to this injustice and lynching the man.

Well, I suppose it depends on what you believe is pedophilia, since many of our own ancestors practiced marrying much younger than we do today. For example, the ancient Greeks had 30 year old men marrying teenage girls. And they didn't consider that wrong at all. We obviously do. Who's right, us or them?

I think we blur these such issues with technically terms. When we say somebody was raped, it could very well be some 17 year old girl choosing to sleep with a 27 year old guy. Same thing with pedophilia, I think it is very important the line does not get blurred here. You have 30 year old guys raping 7 year old boys or girls. This should not be likened to modern or ancient cultures who marry their daughters off at the age of 13. While a thirteen year old bride is a bit shocking to our western culture, it has been acceptable in a great variety of other cultures. This I do not believe to be such a horrible awful thing, I definitely wouldn't dream to call this pedophilia. But there is no context in which a little kid, be it male or female, being used by someone for sexual pleasure should be acceptable or even justified. There have been cultures in the past that practiced this, where it has been culturally acceptable, it is very sick.

You can't quite say one thing is right for one person and wrong for another. People try to either say the world is black and white, or that the world is gray. Those terms are too simplistic in defining something as complex as morality.

When you ask why we can't all get along Sean, are you referring to wars? Wars and an inevitable truth to the world and will never be avoidable, no matter how well we can get along. Have you ever read the book All Quiet on the Western Front? Fantastic book. There is a part in the book where the main character (a German) is stuck in a crater all night with a dying Frenchmen whose mortal wounds the young German soldier had just inflicted. It is a wonderful chapter. The German has a breakdown and cries over the dying Frenchmen telling him how sorry he was he killed him, how had they met under different circumstances they might have been best friends.

Wars have very little to do with not getting along (though from time to time they do, but rarely) and everything to do with greed. Sometimes you have cases like the current terrorism issue which has a lot to do with misguided religious extremism (even Christianity has been guilty of this plenty in the past). Some people would be amazed with how much Muslim eschatology plays into the current world issue. And some people would also be amazed at how much misguided Christian eschatology (and poor scholarship) played in certain events following WWII.

That would be awesome to be able to transfer those games to you DS and play them. Thanks for answering my questions.
I know what you mean about not wanting to play Ocarina of time on the Wii, it does have a perfect setup on the N64. I think controller style doesn't matter as much with pre-n64 games though.

I still have my older systems, and a ton of games for them, and instead of dragging out the old systems to play them, I have an old laptop with s-video output and an N64/PSX controller to USB adapter and emulators for all my old systems and rom dumps of all my old games. With this I can play my old NES and SNES games on my TV just like the real things, only with an N64 controller. I find the N64 controller to be ideal for these older games since it have the classic style d-pad and the shoulder buttons and c-buttons which work perfectly for the SNES, and the a and b buttons that work perfectly for the NES. My preference would be to play my SNES games with a real SNES controller, so maybe someday I will lay down the twenty some bucks to buy a SNES to USB adapter. I just wish I could use the zapper.

Ah, and my laptop also works to play my old PSX games (only have a few games, and my PSX takes hours to load anything) and since my adapter has a PSX controller slot I can play them with the authentic controller, PSX games don't always emulate perfectly though and can take a lot of messing around with settings to get them right.

How great would it be if they made an adapter for the Wii so that you could use your old N64 controller to play your N64 games. Just thought of something else I am curious about, in Ocarina of Time, the top right corner of the screen had representations of all four c buttons and the a and b buttons with a label (i.e. jump, talk, Navi) or an icon representing the idem that is equipped to that particular button. Have they changed this on the Wii version to be representations of the classic controller's buttons rather than the N64 controller's buttons?

I do not have a Wii, but I must say I have been very impressed with all I have heard about it since its release. Especially the whole ability to play all sorts of classic games on it. But there are a few things I have been curious about. First off, how are the games obtained? Are they downloaded onto a hard drive? Or are they floating out on a network? If they are actually saved to your Wii itself, what happens when your disk gets full, assuming you could dl enough game to fill it, would you have to get rid of some to get more? Or if the games are kept on a network, what happens when the Wii becomes obsolete and Nintendo decides it is no longer worth keeping the Wii network online. Will all your paid for classic games be unaccessible? Also does it bother anyone else having to repurchase games you have already at one point paid the full price for? I would not like that. For me to repurchase my entire NES and SNES collection (or even just the few I consider "must have" games) at five bucks or so a game would really take a chunk out of my wallet. But the whole concept as a whole is really cool. And if these classic games purchased for use on the Wii were to be usable on the next Nintendo system as well, that would make them all the more valuable.

Personally I don't mind the stuff. I mean it isn't the best quality "meat" in the world, but as far as fake and easy to prepare precooked meats goes, this stuff can be very useful. Just pop the can open and it is ready to eat. Can be very useful in many situations. I think it is wise to keep some at easy access around the house just in case something comes up and you have to go on the lamb. Not to mention it has a great Monty Python sketch dedicated to it (complete with singing vikings). That last part is probably its greatest redeeming factor.

Yeah, like make spreadsheets, I was very impressed when I found out you could make those in it. Oh, and last year I learned to make a calender with it, I couldn't believe it!

Actually, I think back in the old days Excel had a hidden spy hunter game in it. That was cool, I think. Kinda like the mine detector in minesweeper. Does Microsith still make these cool hidden things in their products? Or is that a thing of the past?

I wonder if they will release the first Mother game (often referred to as Earthbound Zero) for the NES to the Wii Shop. That would be really cool since the game was translated into English and made ready to release though it never was. That would be fantastic if Nintendo would get in the habit of releasing unreleased games for this thing. How great would it be to see StarFox 2 for the SNES... not likely I know, but with the Wii channel the possibility is there.

Looking for 1997 Star Wars Special Edition DVD9, 5 Star Edition (Please Help)

As far as original packaging goes, I think there were a couple of versions of Five Star set with different covers (I very well could be wrong) and if I remember from the pictures I have seen they were all less than perfect looking. You can find some pretty good covers around here, my suggestion would be to find the ones you like best and to print your own set. There are plenty of cover designed specifically for the 97 SE sets.

There are some better quality DVDr versions of the SE floating around. The 5 Star may have been the best bootleg version availible, but from what I understand it is still pretty poor quality. If you want to own every version of Star Wars including the foreign bootlegs (which the 5 Star set is) you are going to have a lot of hunting and buying to do, because there are a lot of them. If you just want a good quality set of the 97 versions those are a lot easier to get than you think.

The above sentence makes very little sense, I said you are being antagonistic, which is true enough. And with the whole "you may have known about that if you watched good stories instead of video game stories" you seem to be continuing the trend. This has shit to do with political correctness, I have no idea why you even bring up the issue of PC. Also I know people like to debate, I happen to enjoy it within reason. But when the other person is being a total dick all the fun drains out quickly. You're just insulting everyone. There is no debate here anyway, we think story is an essential part of most games (with some exceptions like checkers or tetris) and you think we are a bunch of stupid gits for liking any story that is part of a video game. Are we going to convince you to agree with us? Yeah right! And there is not a chance of you convincing us to believe all video game stories are crap. So I see no point in debating this. The only thing it would accomplish is allowing you to continue acting like a dick and insulting us some more.

The key word there being games. Are they not video games? Are they now somehow classified as another form of entertainment simply because you have said so.

This post made me laugh. That would be fine but I was drinking milk and now my nose burns. Why does this bother you so much ghost? You think video games don't need a story, fair enough, several of us happen to disagree with you. Why do you feel the necessity to fight it out? Do you really have something to prove? Your above quoted "games" argument is funny, because you are skirting the comment Cassidy made. You listed all the kind of games that don't need extra back story, sports games come with a story built in, John Madden is a real man, as are the players in the game. There is your story, pretty automatic. And like Cassidy said, tetris is in the reflex/puzzle genre, most games are putting you into another world, tetris is just a game plain and simple. There is a big difference between checkers and Halo. Halo wouldn't make any sense without a story line, and checker would be retarded if you tried to make a story line. You are using fool's logic to try to prove your point. You don't have to defend your point of view, you have every right to it. Why are you being so antagonistic? Every time somebody post a point of view that disagrees with yours you start littering your posts with antagonistic remarks. I know you are going to say that you were not being antagonistic so I will just give a few quotes:

"Give me a break, were discussing video games you might wanna get that checked out if your being even slightly serious."

"if people get emotional over video games IMO thats a little nutty" (If IMO means "in my humble opinion", it sure as hell doesn't seem humble to me.)

Just to list a couple.

The majority of development and testing goes into the game play. Like I said before its a video game its meant to be played, if you need a good thriller go rent a movie.

Play the first two Monkey Island games, Sam & Max Hit The Road, The Dig, and Grim Fandango, then come back and type that post again.

Exactly. My point was that games CAN have good stories in them, but for some silly reason it has become far too accaptable for their stories to suck. There story lines don't have to be bad, and it doesn't take that much effort to put a decent story in it. The most it would ever take would be paying an extra guy.

ghost, the whole "before you were concieved" comment came from your "grandfather" comment. It has nothing to do with logic, I was just playing around. I guess I could turn it around and say that if you used some logic you would no I am not a grandfather, but I don't think that is true (I damn well could be a grandfather for all you know), what is to say you are not an 11 or 12 year old sitting at a computer, that would mean you were born in the mid nineties, thus not having been around in the early nineties. I just don't see what is so "grandfatherish" about mentioning games from the early nineties. Calm down man.

I am in no need of waking up, and yes, I don't think all game stories are of crap quality. The ones Nanner just listed have fantastic plots, and there are others with great plots too, and no, my standards are not low. Plenty of people would agree with me that Grim Fandango was some excellent story telling. Proof that games don't have to be crap. It is doubtful Nanner or I would remember or even care about Monkey Island had the story line been garbage, instead I will never forget that game. I appreciate effort being put into gameplay, and I even appreciate games like Pac-Man where there really is no story line. Sometimes no story at all is less insulting to our intelligence than some of quickly thrown together nonsense story. I am not asking for Martin Scorsese, just a little bit of thought.

Yes, it is the grandfathers video game thread because I am older than thirteen and was alive to play game released in the early nineties. Back in those days sonny, some games actually did have good story lines . One particular golden oldie probably made way before your conception was called "Grim Fandago" and I know plenty of people played that for the story line. It is ashame the general consensus on video games these days is that they can't have and should have good story lines. Just gives them excuses to pull crap out of there asses and put some pretty eye candy on it and sell it.
