¤ THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK ¤ The "OPTIMUM EDITION" Score Reconstruction, Remixing & Restoration Version 3 (Released)
Time

It's too bad that until the weekend (at earliest) I won't be able to listen to the set - I want to try it out at least on my decent PC stereo setup on a calm day, preferably the great audio at my parent's house.

But, considering ABC's previous remasters, I'm certain that this will be outstanding. Can't wait to hear this in it's entirety, but I'll post some feedback once I do.

Cheers, and thanks for the continued effort on bringing these outstanding soundtracks by John Williams to the best possible quality! :)

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Haven't posted in a while, but I've been following the thread an there are some great ideas. I really can't wait to see TESB: R ! :)

vaderios, that shot of the star destroyer's "underbelly" and the Executor is amazing! I really love the mood, excellent lighting and additional detail. If by any chance you're going to make a compilation of best "mock-ups", add this one with a high-rez! I really hope adywan can include it in the Revisited edit.

THE OT SOUNDTRACKS SALVAGE - SWESBROTJ -"remastered"(so far)+ LP's (Released)
Time

Hello ABC,

I almost felt bad after posting some minor critisism about your original remasters about the RotJ XS-Remaster. I have absolutely no regret now, because you've definately paid attantion and... wow! Your new remaster of RotJ sounds absolutely amazing! I haven't listened through the entire set yet, but I've paid attention to some of my favourite pieces such as "Return of the Jedi/Sail Barge Assault" and now they sound better than the original remaster, and miles far away and beyond the Anthology set.

I've also heard TESB Remaster a few days back and it was crystal clear and amazing. Now RotJ is finally up to that quality.

Honestly, my deepest thanks.

As a sidenote, a question to you sound gurus - what's the (aduio) quality of TPMs soundtrack? It's the only one I don't have, despite it being my favourite from the prequels. I hope it's nearly not as back as the image quality of the movie itself...

I really like the blue spinning globes for the Falcon cockpit scene, but the green texts and outline were a bit "heavy" and destracting. Maybe slower rotating planet holos and smaller, more subtle blue-ish text (similar in hue to the lighting in Han and Leia's faces) might be better and less distracting from the actors.

THE OT SOUNDTRACKS SALVAGE - SWESBROTJ -"remastered"(so far)+ LP's (Released)
Time

I've listened through most of RotJ on my PC with JBL Control Studio fronts and Asus Xonar DX audio card (sorry, but I just don't have my home stereo system available at the moment, and I was forced to use the PC). I use Foobar2000 player (usually with DynamicRange compression mod, although I also heard the remastering without it, just to avaoid any sound disturbance). I make it all clear just to note that I haven't used a proper audio system, still a decent one.

Let me begin with the (small) critisism - there was some background noise on a few tracks. Not very much, but I could hear it in the quieter sections, interrupted by the heavy brass(?) instruments or by violin(?) solos. Another issue is that the player I'm using shows all tracks as "unknown". Once I have home audio I'll test it again, but can anyone please check if there's problems with PC's reading the audio file desriptions (author, track title/number and so on).

This is definately a (very) small issue, though.

Now, to the point. Overall, this was excellent... no, amazing even! The clarity of the instruments was astounding. The Anthology set I have sounded kind of muffled, yet now I can hear everything, even quieter sections that I couldn't in the original releases. I love the trumpets, man... they were my favourite parts from the RotJ OST and the Anthology ones sounded somewhat distorted, and overly sharp. Now they are excellent! Towards the end of Track 6 ("Into the Trap" on the CD cover) there's a "clicking" instruments, reminiscent of the Empire musical cue in the Battle of Hoth, it's just amazingly clear now. Seriously, I'm listening to the Sail Barge Assault and Into the Trap/Main Reactor titles for the dozenth time now, and I can't get enough. It's very hard for to give a detailed review, because I'm an experienced listener, yet I'm not an expert on music, and I'm not sure of the English names of many musical instruments.

All I can say is that never since watching RotJ in the 1990s in cinema for the first time have I heard the soundtrack again, with such power, beauty and complexity. Until now.

Thanks for this remaster, and thanks to those who bumped the thread!

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I'm not a great fan of the overly shiny and complicated PT displays and such, but the X-Wing does look bad. It's supposed to be a state-of-the-art combat spacecraft, yet even late 1980's jets have a lot more impressive cockpits. I for one would like a heavy edit with lots of displays. Not the fancy PT stuff, but something more like modern millitary displays.

Davnes, could you add maybe a small Bespin city hologram orbiting the planet and just some random Star Wars symbols popping around the hologram, like some sort of data stream? I don't know much about editing, so please forgive me if I'm asking much - it's great as is now and definately an improvement upon the OT.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

Just saw the "Attacks of the Federation" edit... well, congatulations! Great job!

I've always thought TPM was the best of the prequels (at it's core plot sequence) and your edit only reinforced my belief. Removing the awfull battle droid voices was a great idea, although there are several scenes when they are obviously supposed to talk between themselves in the original and yet they are completely silent. Maybe you could add just some kind off static/clicking sound (like a radio transmiter) to "liven up" the battle droid sequences. But it's definately better now than the original. I also enjoyed the edit of the ground battle. No more stupid Jar-Jar scenes, but best of all was the ommision of the droid commander - he was just pointless. The droid army now feels a lot more menacing and lifeless.

Great job on the race. It was one of the parts I hated most in the original, but now it's just thrilling to watch. The concealed Sidious was also a very good addition. And I personally thank you for removing the planet core sequence (although I miss Qui-Gon's "there's always a bigger fish line"). There were also some other minor tweaks which I liked.

One thing that could be improved, as already noted, is the musical transition between some scenes. It feel rough.

Image quality was awfull, though. That's not a fault of your edit, of course (I downloaded the 900mb xvid version). I have an original French DVD and even though better than the xvid, the quality is still far worse than the other prequels and at some points, even than the originals. Very grainy, yet lacking in sharpness, dull contrast and too cold colors (again, this is how it looks in my DVD too, so I don't blame you, I'm just irritated that TPM looks... bad).

Well, now only imagine this edit, with Anakin coming alot sooner. Maybe he could have piloted the Naboo royal ship through the blockade as a young adult skilled pilot, rather a (bad acting) kid. TPM also had the best combat scenes, when they made sense (the AAT firing on the Naboo fighters when the took off, palace gunfights and the ambush in the palace square -top notch). Only the wierd semi-cartoon Gungan technology feels out of place. A fully fleshed out love story with Amidala/Padme and some better editing and TPM could have been incredible rather than just good...

Thanks to this edit, it's a lot closer to the better movie it should have been originally.

Thanks!

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

I know this is a bit far-fetched, but is there any chance for a "broadside salvo" scene like in RotS for the battle of Endor between a Star Destroyer and a Calamari cruiser? Only that rather than the pre-Dreadnought/battle of Tsushima era gun-decks on the ships, it would be something more like large gun turrets, operated remotely by the gun-crews (like WWI and WWII battleships)?

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Hello to everyone!

I've been a long-time lurker on this boards and I've checked how various fan-edits progressed, but this is the first time I post.

I watched Adywan's ANH edit when it was released (and I've finally found the DVD9 version, which I'm downloading now) and it was great! I admit, I don't like all the changes, but it was a very professional edit and the color correction was great!

Here's a few questions/suggestions about TESB edit. By the way, let me say, I watched the trailers and they are superb. The ion cannon was spot-on.

Will there be a Purist version? Will there be an x264 HD version (I would have really liked to see ANH:Revisited in x264)? Is there any chance of a scene with some Snowtroopers deploying from an AT-AT? To me this was badly lacking from the "battle choreography" of TESB, which otherwise seems to be the most millitary sensible of the two trilogies.

Ady, have you tried contacting any Star Wars scale modelers, for example those at starshipmodeler.net ? They make excellent scale replicas of Star Wars vehicles (I myself am a scale modeller, although far from good) and I'm sure they could help if you decide to add ships and vehicles to either TESB or ROTJ. While I greatly admire CGI for things like blaster effects, lightsabers, "damage" shots, etc. but miniatures simply feel more real and "captivating" on screen.

IIRC one modeler had an ongoing project of reworking the Nebulon-B to look a little more sensible, up-armored and up-gunned etc.

Again, thanks for this great edits! Not only are they outstanding, but you've sure paved the way for some very serious reworks in the future!

Best regards, and sorry for the typos (English isn't my native language)!
