RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)
Time

Alright, thanks bro. It's just that a little extra is always nice addition to justify the menu itself. I would suggest replacing the low-res ones with original poster art (perhaps even the original Revenge of the Jedi poster), which are fairly easy to find in hi-res around the web, that is, if you can find the room in the dvd. Now that I think of it, it would actually make a lot more sense if the gallery alluded to the theatrical release itself. Perhaps photos of the opening day and poster art would make more sense than just a simple gallery of concept art.

Just an idea though.

The Clone Wars messes up continuity or how Lucas is still destroying star wars.

Lucas opened that door himself by making Force powers hereditary in ROTJ.

Up until then I got the impression that anyone could be a Jedi if they felt a vocation for it.

If the Force ran strong in certain families you'd think the Jedi would be encouraging them to marry other Jedi and breed like rabbits, not all the forbidden love stuff from the PT.

I used to interpret that "force runs strong in my family" line more like a hereditary fate or some kind of family curse that goes on from one generation to another, as it frequently happens in fairy tales, which all in all is what Star Wars is all about: a fairy tale in space.

Yeah I heard that one. But "Clone Wars" is just a name. Could mean a hell lot of things. Still, cloning soldiers is one thing, and partially acceptable. Making a clone of Luke Skywalker is something completely different. Making a clone of Luke Skywalker that also has force powers is essentially treading the ground for midichlorians and the rest of the force-science junk.

But I digress, and it would definitely be a good time for me to shut up now before I attract a whole legion of flamers.

Yep, but how good or bad the EU is have nothing to do with the fact that Lucas was always clear that he can trash any of those stories if he wants to go elsewhere. As good as I think the TZ's trilogy is, Lucas have the right to make a new sequel trilogy telling something completely different. And I would not mind, since it was in "the deal" from the begining.

On the other hand, plenty of EU stories already contradict themselves. It would be pretty much impossible to develop a story inbetween two timeline events if you bothered to check every reference on every single piece of EU media. And since most of 'em are crap you might aswell ignore it altogether.

And I for one hold Timothy Zahn responsible for preliminary ruining the SW prequels. It was he who introduced clones and all that crap. The man can write a good plot, but he filled it with too much nonsense and pseudo force-science.

It always was very clear to me that the EU, even when approved by Lucas, could be thrown away at any moment Lucas wants to make something "SW canon", like new movies and TV series.

In other words I never took the EU as SW canon. I'm surprised you did Skyjedi ;)

There are some things that would be worthwhile taking as canon, that is, if most of it wasn't a huge clusterf*ck. I like the early chapters of the Tales of the Jedi comic series. Although the Exar Kun saga has some pretty lame moments, the Great Hyperspace War volumes are awesome. And of course, we will always have Jedi Knight II, probably the best Star Wars video game ever made, if we exclude the space combat simulators.

Project Im Working on - Bruce Lee's Game of Death - 35th Anniversary Edition (* unfinished project *)
Time

I have very mixed feelings regarding GOD. On one hand I'm terribly disappointed it was never finished, because it would have probably been bruce's best movie to date. I think it even had the potential to be better than Enter the Dragon. On the other hand, because of the crappy1978 "restoration" attempt which was perhaps the first of the brucesploitation movie fad, I'm now extremely sceptic on all sorts of edits of the GOD footage bits.

Upload a video sample or something on youtube, so we can see it in action. If you want to upload the whole thing, try the usenet usergroups. Probably someone around here should be able to tell you how to do it if you ask nicely via pm(but don't ask me, I still haven't tried it). Alternatively you can upload it on private torrent sites like demonoid and then share the link via pm for those interested.

Adywans ESB "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction Covers
Time

I absolutely love these. I like it how they iconically sum up the films without being too crowded. I favour the Atari styled one especially, because it sums up the title perfectly to an ironic simplicity, that is the empire, striking back. As much as I love the original poster art I think they're a bit too crowded and busy to serve as dvd covers, epic as they may be (no offense to Michalak, you did a great work nevertheless).

Still, although I know there's a specific thread for requests, I would like to ask AvP if he would be nice enough to create other covers in the same Atari-inspired style for the both ANH and RotJ, replacing the bits referencing Adywan for some sort of generic text like "theatrical version" or whatever. From all the covers I've browsed in this section this is by far my favourite, and I would very much appreciate to have future theatrical reconstructions with similar cover art.

Still, great work, and thanks for these.

I love the plinkett reviews. Although there are some little things I don't agree with here an there he proves to be a very rigorous and unpretentious critic who who prefers to draw conclusions from hard facts rather imposing unjustified opinions to the audience, like a lot of film critics tend to do. Hell, I would gladly buy the whole thing if it was ever released on dvd. I feel I could watch these over and over.
