True, but that impact would be enormous. And if they mention it and other reviewers see that they're mentioning it, it could wind up being some big mother domino effect. I know I'm being overly optimistic right now and that's very highly against my nature. But what the heck.

Wow, and we thought it got bad on this forum. For kicks, I just went and joined the forum at Dixie Chicks Chat and read some of the arguments between fans about Natalie Maines comments in London about President Bush. Some of them are vicious (not just against her, but her supporters are wicked as well). Ouch. Motti and NileQT are pussycats by comparison.

Wouldn't it rock if we could get him to mention it on his show with Roeper? How cool would that be? I wonder if anyone from this forum lives anywhere near any of these film festivals that go on during the year? Have someone there passing out leaflets to drum up interest. Let's go grassroots, baby.

Recent site outages

Works best for me when I first get in to work at 8 a.m. CDT. Once I hit noon, there are so many people on because the rest of the U.S. and Canada is awake and in front of computers by that time that it just gets congested as hell. Plus, noon is when everyone here where I work gets online (lunchtime) that our T1 is maxed out and I can barely access any site, let alone just OT.com.

Original Memories Vs. New Nightmare
Time
Not in this case. I actually like the extended versions better. They tell so much more of the story. I loved seeing the enchantment in Sam's eyes as the elves marched past in the woods. I love Galadriel's gift scene. I love how much more compassionate Boromir comes across in the extended.

I said this in another thread that I don't really consider it "revisionist cinema" when footage that was originally filmed by the director is reinserted into the flow of the movie. All that's happening is that they're making things right. It wasn't the director's choice to edit out the scenes so much as it is the demand of a producer or the distribution house for the sake of time, etc.

I prefer the director's cut of The Abyss and don't even watch the other anymore. Same with the original Highlander. The original versions of both movies make no sense anymore after seeing the extended.

Besides, like I said before, I'm not rich and I've got to pick and choose what I buy. I would rather spend my money on The Simpsons s3 and save for the Extended version of TTT.

Luke, talk to the person who contacted you about writing the article and see if this article will be spread in more of their sister newspapers. If that paper is indeed owned by Sun Publications or Sun Media or whatever it's called and it's the same company as the one down here in the States, the distribution could be huge (I know of six papers here in Illinois alone that are owned by Sun Publications - one right here in my city).

DJR, do you have an e-mail address we should all use to contact the NYTimes? I'd hate for us all to be sending to different addresses and have it fall on deaf ears. If we all send to one person, they could potentially see our motivation. Just so long as we don't sign our e-mails "Jayson Blair."

It's cool QT. Sorry to hear about the bouts of depression. Let's just chalk it up and move on.

We cool? I would hate to have Dayv Force choke me.

I am not attacking you NileQT. Nor did I once make fun of you (please find a single example). I was shooting down your comments because your arguments were weak and not based in fact. You seem to think that everything you say goes, regardless of if it's correct or not. If it's not your way, it's the highway. And I, for one, am tired of it. The rest of us give each other crap, but we put our little emoticons by our messages so people don't take what we say seriously. People know we're either ribbing them or being sarcastic or whatever. No, I don't necessarily like every Star Trek film, but I'm not going to tell Trekkie or Jay that they suck because they do like them. That's effectively what you said. You told them that all Trekkies suck. Did you happen to read the guy's forum name? It's TREKKIE! How the hell is he supposed to take that? You preach about ethics but don't follow them yourself. You tell us not to gang up on you, but you slam others.

And, it only looked like I was stalking you yesterday. I go where the new posts are to read what people say. You and I were the only ones actively posting yesterday afternoon so I wound up reading all your banter. And shooting it down because I didn't agree with you and your weak arguments. You claim to be so well educated (graduating high school at 16), so act like it. Think through your comments before you post them. That should be the number one rule in any forum.

Think... then click "reply to thread"

OpEd is "Opinions and Editorials" -- where people express opinions and personal inflection. I asked because your article had a lot of opinion and other types of first-person references (I, me, we) which are typically avoided in what newspapers refer to as "objective news reporting" (reporting without giving your personal bias on an issue - which is seemingly more rare as time goes by).

Go ahead and use the quote, Luke. It's all for a good cause. As for headlines...

Fans push (or Website pushes) Star Wars director for DVDs
Fans react (or Website reacts) to Star Wars director plans
Fans petition (or Website petitions) for original Star Wars movies on DVD
Star Wars DVDs are the goal of fans (or website)

Hope these help somewhat.

I'm intentionally avoiding using the name George Lucas because there are still some people who don't know who he is. However, everybody who has been alive at some point in the last 20 years and not comatose knows what Star Wars is.

Well, you could always employ a subtitle on the article. Many newspapers use this method if the headline isn't descriptive enough. Call it something like...

Greedo Shoots First
Fans push Lucasfilm for Original Star Wars Trilogy release on DVD

or

Greedo Shoots First
Website pushes Lucasfilm to release Original Star Wars trilogy on DVD
